For the ambience, do not expect something fanciful but I would describe it as a cosy place where you can imagine regular customers return to. We sat outside along the streets and loved it–cool evening breeze, quiet street and good food at reasonable prices on a tuesday evening, its happiness that people forget. =)

Anyway, we were feeling quite exploratory so we ordered stuff that we didnt try before. For starters, we had my usual favourite falafel(will not let go of this if its available) and a Fattouch salad–lettuce, tomato, cucumber, parsley, onion, garlic, fresh mint and radish; tossed in freshly squeezed lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil; topped with toasted Lebanese bread.

Grilled Haloumi–We were already quite full with our 3 starters, but I was famished and as it was quite early for dinner for us, I ordered one main to share–grilled full chicken.

I really loved how the chicken was fully marinated with spice and how they were able to smash it so thin, but one thing was it was very very very dry. It was till the extent where you find it hard to swallow. It would have been great if there is some sort of light sauce provided, or if they were able to keep it a little more succulent. Still, I really did love the taste.

I will definitely come back again, as there are alot on the menu that suits my palette which i have not tried. Another great thing. no service charge and GST but no water provided too.

Addicted to peanut pancake Smile Jun 30, 2013

I have been having these for about 3 times a week since i started working at Tanjong Pagar. I think its the peanut paste they have inside which is so addictive. They are quite different from the usual mee chiang kueh we see from other places as the peanuts are usually dry but the ones by Jollibean is more paste like. And somehow they fill me up! compared to having bread/bun from other places, i think these little wonders are so value for money!

Oh so yummy chocolate soy blended Smile Jun 30, 2013

Am a big fan of Jollibean because of its rich peanutty pancakes but I must say Mr Bean's chocolate soy ice blended really beat them! Its so good and you can choose your sugar level. I had the 25% sugar and found it really just nice. Will be back again defnitely, perhaps even a staple drink!

When Madam Kwan's opened at VivoCity, I was naturally excited as a foodie. I remembered I first tried Madam Kwan's in KL years ago and thought it was good quality food at a higher than average price. 5 years later, right on the little red dot. When I set my eyes upon the menu again, I wasn't tempted at all. Maybe I have become spoilt with the array of new restaurants sprouting up in Singapore every other day, but the food doesn't amaze me. More so for street food at such high prices.

Anyway, 4 of us came here on a Friday night because our friend had fond memories of its Fried Hokkien Noodles which looked like udon to me. It was fried with dark sauce and was not oily. A good portion with some fresh prawns.

I had the dumpling soup which I would say was tasty but too expensive. The soup was also very oily due to the fried onions they put in. The dumplings were big though, but skin was not the soft and smooth type typical of shrimp dumpling.

The beef noodles was drenched in an eggy gravy but they were quite a small portion of noodles. The only great thing is that the slices of beef were quite generous.

Main gripe is that it is too expensive, they charged $1 for a glass of water mad and its definitely not diet-friendly.

Affordable Casual Japanese food Smile Jun 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

Came here with dinner with friends. Didn't really planned to eat here but I have seen this chain restaurant before and it had an extensive menu. Perfect for gatherings! They serve bentos, hamburgs, udon but lacked ramen. Anyway, I had the Buta Shigayaki Set, which is more chinese than Japanese. The set came with a small piece of fresh tofu, miso soup and a small salad. I really love the salad, somehow the sauce was very tasty. The Stir-Fried Ginger Pork was a little disappointing for me because firstly, it was too fat. It had a lot of fatty parts which i had to tediously remove. And somehow the pork taste is very very strong. So I really didn't like it.

The other dish we had was the mix toji set--Sliced beef, fried prawn and Pork cutlet topped with egg. It was a nice portion and you because it is a mix of ingredients you do not feel as sinful as having the entire Tonkatsu.

For the price I think its quite alright though as any casual Japanese restaurant do not expect great quality. Order came quite fast as you order from the screen.
