Being a frequent visitor at Vivo City I often walked past The chicken Rice Shop. As angmokia mentioned, the decoration somehow makes you think of it as a fast food place, such as Texas Chicken and KFC. However, when I walked past it one day the poster on the set meal caught my eye so I went to take a good look at what the menu was exactly serving. I was pleasantly surprised that it in fact touts itself as being healthy (alright except the chicken rice itself) by serving chicken breast meat, tofu and veg. Just my kind of food!

We ordered the Double Delight, which cost us around $25:

Nyonya Pai Tee (Regualar)
Personal Portion of Chicken** Choice of Steamed, Roast or Soy Sauce
Prime Honey BBQ Chicken
Ipoh Bean Sprouts or Kailan (Regular)
Sai To Fish Balls (Regular) or Tofu with Oyster Sauce
Two bowls of Chicken Rice
Soup of the Day
12oz Soft Drink (Two)

In terms of taste, I liked the roast chicken breast more than the BBQ chicken. Actually the latter even tasted a little weird to me because they try to replicate the chinese char siew kind of sauce which was way too sweet for this dish. The Nyonya Pie Tee was alright only, as the shell was a little too hard for my liking. The vegetables was simple and normal but i did like the tofu though. It had some dried shrimps on top of it which made a difference to the simple dish.

Overall a nice family restaurant that has value for money meals.

Splendid Cheesy Sandwiches Smile Jul 25, 2013

I can't believe I didn't eat at coffee club for ages but went there twice this week! Instead of my healthier post days earlier, I opted for a sinful cheesy sandwich this time round coz i was feeling angsty. lol. Food cures all mood swings isn't it? Anyway no I was genuinely hungry and I'm not a big fan of pasta so I had a shot at their sandwiches. If you love cheesy stuff, you would definitely love their sandwich. I had a french moment looking at their menu. hehe.

I chose the chicken and turkey sandwich because it had lots of protein. It was supposed to be topped with scrambled eggs but mayb i was too busy talking i only remembered the thick blanket of cheese.

At first when i saw gruyere cheese I was afraid it might be too strong for me... and when i looked through the cheese there were some patches that looked like 'mould' but after digging a little realised it looked more like spices/tapenade. hehe. In any case it was still a good dose of the melted goodness and I must say for $13 I thought it was quite alright. I'l probably try out the mushroom melt sometime soon. =)

My friend ordered the croque monsieur and similarly, we felt the portion was quite large and filling. It was cheesy in a different way and again, the creamy Bechamel sauce and mozarella makes for an overdose.

Well, what can you say about a place that I go back twice within a week, knowing how fickle I am with food? =P

Special spicy stir fry pot! Smile Jul 25, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Food Court

This was a newly opened restaurant in the food republic of Vivocity. I had walked past it a few times and saw people eating from this gigantic bowl but not sure what it was selling. At the same time, the lack of crowd also put me off a little. However, after having a look at the menu and as a lover of spicy food, I decided to give it a try. Basically, it works abit like our hotpot, where you choose a few ingredients. The special concept here is that whatever you choose, they stirfry it in szechuan peppers and chilli oil. Be warned, it is very spicy! But the concept is nice, a little like a special zi char. Be prepared to queue though.

Came by this stall at the SFF 2013 at Bayfront and wah.. I must say this dish stole the limelight for my evening there! The chilli crab sauce was sooooo good! Not too spicy but just enough kick, and i really wanted to mop up the sauce with some bread.. Cray fish was very fresh and for the price of 4 crayfish with a 20% promotion, it cost $12.50. Quite worth it! Give me this over chilli crab anytime! Now that i know where why are, I think im gonna go to their stall now!

Popiah! OK Jul 25, 2013

Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Hawker Centre

Went to the Singapore Favourite food fest at Bayfront ave and saw popiah-- one of my favourite street food. I was glad they didnt jack up the price due to it being a special event. There were many people queuing for the popiah from fortune and I must say I thought it was so-so only. The crispy stuff they had inside was nice but in therms of taste, it still doesnt beat my all time favourite--Qi ji. The great thing is they actually make the popiah skin on the spot!
