Coffee break Smile Dec 13, 2014   (Related Review)

Their lemon meringue tart had rather sour taste which complemented well with the sweetness of the fluffy torched meringue. The cafe latte came in a larger than usual cup (as compared with other cafes) and perhaps that was the reason why it tasted rather diluted, with a lack of coffee taste. It came really hot though, making it suitable to slowly drink and chill at the cafe without the need to worry that it will turn cold quickly. Lastly, the quiche was savoury and had an eggy taste to it. It was to my liking smile The pastry had a flaky texture too smile Service was also friendly.

Brunch Smile Dec 13, 2014

Benjamin Browns is a rather small cafe with limited seatings so I will not advise you to come in large groups.

As I was near Forum, I dropped by to try their pasta (I loveee pasta!) while my dining partner had the beef burger.

Their seafood aglio olio was done al dente. It was quite oily though and as I finished the pasta, I could see a small pool of oil at the bottom. The squid was quite tough and chewy and the shrimps tasted like the frozen ones. There were some baby scallops which were chewy and had a slight sweetness to it. I could taste the garlic fragrance in the aglio olio which I adored.

Beef burger: My partner requested the beef patty to be done medium but it was done closer to medium well instead. That aside, the sauce and mushroom went well with the burger, and the patty itself was moist as well. The fries also tasted yummy and the salad had the right amount of vinaigrette dressing.

Sushi rolls OK Dec 13, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Asian Variety | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Omakase

Items tried: Hana Maki (Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon & Tobiko) 16.00 and Rainbow (Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Tobiko around California Roll) 16.00.

For this roll, the gravy had a salty flavour and I felt that it masked the natural taste of the raw fish, and the gravy, upon contact with the sushi rice, made the sushi fall apart. The Hana maki, although it seemed like it was a signature dish of Hana, did not taste like it was a must-try and was disappointing too.

Perhaps their omakase/kaiseki would fare better.

Service was above average smile

Thai dinner  Smile Dec 13, 2014

Categories : Thai

The portion has really increased since my last visit at the first outlet at Ion Orchard. The kangkong is moderately spicy and well-cooked. It is not salty too. The clear tom yum soup is tasty and the soup is filled with seafood taste and has a good balance of spiciness and sourness from the tom yum. Ingredients are also much more as compared to the last time I had and the prawns are soo fresh! Prices are on the steep side but they do serve quality food.

Affordable thai food Smile Dec 13, 2014

Categories : Thai | Halal

Chanced upon this casual thai eatery and thus we settled our lunch here. At $5 only, this thai Basil Chicken Rice is worth the try. The basil meat is very fine and gravy is flavourful. Because it is a little salty, it goes well with the white rice. The egg is soft and fluffy too.
The green curry chicken kway tiao is a disappointment though. The green curry lacks richness in taste and texture is too watery. It also tastes too sweet. The chicken is tender though and the kway tiao is smooth and has a springy texture. Lastly, I find that the chicken wings are a tad salty but the seasoning is flavourful and the chicken is tender too.
