Tiong Bahru bakery has alot of hype around it, and you can google all about it. I find this branch better than the one at Raffles City, because of the serene surroundings. I choose a table outside because the thoughtful staff has already installed ceiling fans to keep me cool

This is an interesting door, which was quite difficult to push.

Chillax environment. Pretty much the way our expats love it.

You get one of these number blocks after you have paid for your coffee.

I was quite amazed by the details of the coffee art. Usually, you don't get to see so many layers in the tulip.

My first impression of this burger was not good. I wonder how rockets and smoked salmon can go together. Well, the answer is the almond-ish pesto in this burger bun. Nothing special about the black though, it is a gimmick to me.

This croissant is the probably the best you can find in Singapore. Anything better can only be found in Europe. Sweet inside, but not too sweet. The texture was good with enough crispy layers on the outside, and inside was soft and moist.

Same goes for this. Earlier, I had almond croissants at Carpenter and Cook, and I thought it was awesome. This was this next level of awesome-ness.

Rochester is a well hidden, yet very accessible location to look for bars and cafes to chill and relax. Abit pricey, but the ambiance there is worth the price

As you can see, everything is pretty. Sofa, bar counter, waitress...

There was a drink promotion on that night. $12 for a cocktail, and there were 2 to choose from. This was the first one, and it has mango-basil flavour in it. Tastes fantastic.

Lycee and mint. This was good, but I prefer mango.

You can never go wrong with Churros fresh from the deep fryer. Hot, crispy, and generous coating of sugar and cinnamon was already awesome by itself. Say hi to the chocolate sauce and you are in dream land. Side note, the chocolate sauce can do with some more dark choc inside.

FoodPorn? OK Mar 10, 2013
Categories : Thai

Porn's had a queue outside in the Star Vista branch, and it is clear evidence that there should be some substance there. Unlike other Thai restaurants, Porn's has a more trendy out look, probably to attract the younger crowd.

Lemongrass drink. This drink sounded very interesting on the menu, and yes it tasted amazing.bshocked It was refreshing, and the lemongrass flavour was good

I felt this was too creamy for my liking. And the basil flavour can be stronger

I cannot stop eating this. Sour, sweet, slight spicy. The sotong was kinda overcooked though because it was very chewy

Best. Almost exactly like those in Bangkok. Very spicy and sour! Seafood was fresh. This is a must order dish at Porn's

Meat you elsewhere OK Mar 03, 2013

Categories : Latin American/South American | Steaks and Grills | Buffet

I was there on a Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty filled and I thought there should be something good to expect. Once you are seated, you can get your drinks, and proceed to the salad bar to start your meal.

Salad bar
There was really nothing impression. There were some Japanese mini squid thingy which tasted and looked exactly like those you can get from Giant. Nothing memorable there.

Sauce
I feel that there are too many sauce choices there, and I have no clue which one goes with what kind of meat. Perhaps a standard set will be good. One for red meat, another for white, and a spicy one for both.

Pork
Overall, pork was dry. No good. sad

Chicken
Overall chicken was ok. The bacon wrapped ones were not bad, because it has bacon. I think it will be better there were just wings, or drum stick.

Beef
It is sad that I enjoy the beef wrapped in bacon more than the sliced beef. The beef really needs its own sauce.

Fish and pineapple were fantastic. Hence the photo below.

Service was excellent. Everyone was polite and service was prompt. They attend to all my requests and exceed my expectations.

Cute and Retro Smile Feb 17, 2013

Carpenter and Cook is the perfect place to enjoy some cakes or pastries with a cup of coffee in the afternoon, because when I was there around 3pm, there was still never ending flow of people coming in. Almost everything there is for sale. The old weighing machines, mirrors, and other old stuff that you have probably last seen them 20 years ago. And they come with a hefty price tags.

They have jam for sale. Quite sure this is fresh made, and anything fresh is good!

A good selection of cakes and pastries here.

The number tag. Pretty rustic.

I love this! Lemon drizzle Loaf. The lemon flavour is paired with the sweetness in the cake. It is the kind of sour that makes u salivate and want to have another bite into it.

I wanted something savory, and only the Brioche was left. Sandwiches were out of stock. Not too shabby. There was olives in it which tasted pretty ok. Bread was not soggy, and this made the Brioche delicious.

Overall, the coffee was good

Almond Croissant. This was tasty and good. Almond tasted very fresh and not too strong.

This was a winner. Passion fruit Meringue tart. I had lemon meringue tarts before at some famous place, and I had a bad experience thanks to the over sharp lemon taste. This was da bomb! Passion fruit smells very mouthwatering, and has a sweet taste that balance well with its sour part. The tart was crisp and good.

I think I will come back here. To da bao, cos a seat is really difficult to get.
