Lovely Japanese Meal! Smile Oct 06, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

Since we were at Great World City, my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch there. I'm already a big fan of Ichiban Boshi so when I realize it was in the basement of Great World City I just had to dine there. I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry while my boyfriend had sashimi.
Katsu Curry!

Katsu Curry!

I cannot describe how much I love this curry. The pork was fried so well, it was crispy on the outside but still moist on the inside. When I bit into it, it was still crunchy because the chef had not place it in the curry. The curry was sweet but not overly so and was a nice match with the pork katsu.

Overall, it was a very pleasant meal. I will definitely be going back to this place for more japanese food!

Not a fruit tart kind of person OK Oct 06, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Desserts and Cakes

I've walked past Fruit Paradise in VivoCity many times but never had the chance to go in and try their fruit tarts. Their display outside the cafe always looks amazing though so I was really looking forward to trying their tarts. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I guess I was expecting something more substantial under the fruits, but what I got was a spongy layer of cake and cream. I cannot be more explicit about this, I detest cream in cakes. Personally, I feel it's a useless ingredient. All it does is add a lot of calories and it doesn't even provide much flavour. It's a personal preference and maybe I'm not the best judge of this fruit tart since it all went downhill after I saw cream in it.

Likes
The fruits on top of the tart.

Dislikes
The cake and cream which formed the base of the tart.

Different Twist on Pizza Smile Oct 06, 2012

My boyfriend and I headed down to Skinny Pizza at Raffles City since we were both craving pizza. It wasn't too crowded and we got a seat almost immediately.

We ordered the tandoori skinny pizza and truffle fries. I love how tangy the chicken tasted and it wasn't too spicy. The crust was thin and I really like that because that meant I was consuming less carbohydrates. There was plenty of fresh vegetables on top of the pizza (i.e onions, arugula). Unfortunately, I really really dislike arugula which meant picking off the leaves while eating the pizza.

The truffle fries were my main favourite though.

Great Dim Sum! Smile Oct 05, 2012
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

Since I'm Cantonese, dim sum is practically a staple and must-have food for me. Went down to the Crystal Jade Kitchen at Clementi Mall for brunch with the boyfriend since we both had an off day from school. I've a few favourites that I highly recommend!
-Har Gao
The prawns inside are always juicy, fresh and so yummy it melts in my mouth! I order this every single time I go.

-Carrot Cake
I love the carrot cake, it's slightly crispy at the edges and so full of flavour. Lately, I find they make it saltier though. If it gets any saltier, it may cease to be a favourite.

-Liu Sha Bao
The salted egg inside is so delicious, I slurp every inch of it up!

They charge for water. So, I usually order a pot of tea.
Service could be better, it takes quite awhile to get a waiter's attention.

A Disappointing Meal Cry Oct 05, 2012
Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches

Since The Rotisserrie is just a short 5 minute walk behind my house, I walked over with my boyfriend to try the roasted chicken. We had walked past it many times to see people having their meals there. Thinking it was popular, we headed back on a rainy afternoon.

Sadly, we were disappointed by the fare there. The roasted chicken thigh did not retain any of its juiciness, it was dry and difficult to eat. Any flavouring if any was minimal and we could barely taste it. I ordered the soup of the day with a slice of bread ($5.90). There were a few pieces of potato, corn and slices of bacon but not enough to justify the price I paid. The bread was cold and hard. I could've paid a little extra and have proper soup with chunky ingredients at another soup specialty shop.

Likes
Very comfy seats and lovely decor.

Dislikes
-The chicken was too dry for my liking.
-The soup had a very sparse amount of ingredients.

Spending: Approximately $22
