Claypot Laksa Smile Jul 22, 2012

This claypot laksa used to be under my block a few years back, but has since moved to depot road. Well, I'm glad it did, because I'm practically eating from this stall everyday when it was there.

For $3 a bowl, you get top quality laksa gravy, very creamy and lemak! What makes a true winner is the great value you get. Not only the taste is good, but the portion is also quite big for $3. Lots of noodles, fish cake, tau pok and 2 prawns! It's also not too spicy and can be generally accepted by most people.

Probably the best laksa in Singapore, do give this a try!

Wu Xiang Guan Chang Smile Jul 22, 2012

This is one of the few more famous Wu Xiang Guan Chang stalls in Singapore. This stall has more "internal organs" side dishes than other stalls around Singapore, but I'm no fan of those, so I stick with my fried eggs and Guan Chang.

First of all, this is not cheap. Total cost is about $15, and a small section of Guan Chang already costing $2. What you see in the picture is 2 sections of Guan Chang. As for taste, it's not too oily or salty and goes really well with the sweet sauce.

Overall, it's only good eating once in a while.

Sour & Spicy Soup Smile Jul 22, 2012

NOTE: This stall has moved to Maxwell Market since May 2012.

This is one of my favourite stalls of all time. I have seen it moved from 2 times and I'm still diligently following this stall. What keeps me coming back is the signature Sour & Spicy Soup, and their fried dumplings.

The Sour & Spicy Soup in this picture cost $5, and it's good for about 4 person. The soup has this really great tasting vinegar sour flavour and for those who wants an extra kick, you can be add more vinegar. So far, all the friends I recommend this stall to loves this soup the most.

The fried dumplings is also one of the top sellers here, going for $0.50 a piece with a minimum of 8. Fried crispy outside and the meat is still juicy inside. Add with a little vinegar and it will taste really amazing!

In conclusion, this stall is value, taste and big portion all in one.

HUGE Chicken Cutlet Smile Jul 14, 2012

Came to try Wow Wow West today after missing it for curry rice the last time I came. Just as I was wondering if I should take Chicken Chop or Chicken Cutlet, a plate of Chicken Cutlet was freshly prepared from the kitchen, and it looks really tasty and huge. So, yeah, I'll take that.

The Chicken Cutlet cost $6. Although the huge portion and the good taste justifies the price, but I feel it will appeal to more if the price is cheaper and the portion relatively smaller. First of all, the chicken is fried really well. It's not very oily, and most importantly, the chicken meat inside is very juicy! When I first tried, it taste like restaurant standards, something like Swensen's. Sides are also very generous, with a heap of fresh coleslaw and fries to go with the chicken.

Overall, I think this stall serves up really good food and worth eating once in a while. Not everyday because the huge portion will make people fat in no time.

Ban Mian Smile Jul 11, 2012
Categories : Hawker Centre

Walk over to the nearby Redhill market for lunch today and ordered a Ban Mian for a low price of $2.50.

The ban mian is pretty good, but isn't top quality when it comes to taste. The soup is needs more flavour and the noodles needs a to cook a little longer. However, it makes up with the quantity, as the bowl of noodles is pretty huge.

Another recommended dish is the fried dumplings (涡贴). It's fried quite well, and the vinegar is very sour and makes a really good dip. It's cheaper than elsewhere too, selling at $4 for 10 pieces.

Will be back for the cheap food =)
