Ban Mian! Smile Jul 04, 2012

This ban mian stall below my house is one of my most visited stall. I've been eating at this stall for at least 5 years.

I ordered a bowl of Ban Mian with Chicken meat for $3. (it comes with vege, but in the picture it doesn't, because the stall auntie knows that I don't like vege). The soup base is prepared daily with fresh pork, and taste really good. To make the soup better, I recommend adding some of the pepper that is provided.

Noodles are also hand made from dough, and painstakingly slowly rolled out. The result is noodles that are not too hard or soft. Another one of my favorite is the ikan bilis. Add them into the soup and it goes really well with the noodles by adding flavor and texture.

There's a reason why there's a long queue during lunch hour every weekday, because it's good!

As usual, after meal I would like to have a serving of ice kacang.

The ice kacang comes at a cool price of $1.20, and the portion is quite big for this price. What I love most about this stall is the very fine ice shavings. It feels really soft and melts instantly inside my mouth. Ingredients are also given very generously. However, I feel that it will be even better if there is more sugar syrup, as it becomes bland when I work my way to the centre of the ice mountain.

My brother bought the chendol from the same stall, which has a very strong and sweet coconut milk taste, and goes very well with the ice shavings.

Highly recommended! Do give it a try!

Pork Ribs Prawn Mee OK Jul 02, 2012

Travelled all the way to Whampoa to try out this Prawn Mee as recommended by my dad.

The minimum order is $3, but I ordered a $4 portion as I was feeling quite hungry. The key to a good prawn mee is in the soup, but this stall disappoints with an average tasting soup which is lacking prawn taste. My dad tried it and swore it tasted much better the last time he tried. Double standards, maybe?

However, the pork ribs and prawns made the meal slightly more enjoyable as its fresh and cooked just right.

Chicken Cutlet Fried Rice Cry Jul 02, 2012

Came to Mei Chin Road Market today for "Tong Xin Ju" sour and spicy soup, but it has moved to Maxwell market. So I had to make do with something else.

Ordered a plate of chicken fried rice for $5, and overall, not very pleased with it. The chicken is over-fried such that it becomes quite hard and dry. The rice is fried with eggs and hot dog, and although simple, but taste quite good.

In conclusion, cooking needs improvement, so I won't recommend this stall.

Roti Prata OK Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Indian | Coffeeshop | Halal

It's good to start a day with some roti prata for breakfast!

I ordered 2 pieces of prata, for a very reasonable price of $0.70 per piece of prata. When I ordered, the cook picked up 2 pieces from a pile and places it on a plate for me. I thought he will reheat it, but he didn't, so I assumed it is already hot. However, the prata is not hot when I tried.

But, the dough taste pretty good, and the curry is thick and not too spicy. It's a pity because if the prata is hot, it would have tasted much better.
