My first visit to Osaka Ohsho, I was very keen to try out the much rave gyoza that they sold there. I flipped through their menu at settled for their 3 in 1 set meal. it had a portion of sweet and sour pork, mapo toufu and three pieces of the gyoza. Look how huge the portion was! it was the best of three world!

The gyoza was pretty good, i would compare it to ajisen. it was pan fried so it was not too oily. the meat they used were very fresh. the gyoza was pretty juicy. the dip is not exactly vinegar but it tasted pretty sourish. they even sold the gyoza dip.

The soup was pretty thirsty. It was not too salty, and sort of helped to cleanse your stomach after a filling meal.

The sweet and sour pork was my favourite. i love the sauce they cooked the pork with. it was sweetish. the pork was deep fried till very crispy. it was indeed a pleasure to eat it.

The mapo toufu is really good, the gravy is so tasty. goes absolutely well with the white rice. the toufu is very smooth. the gravy was not too salty too.

I was very satisfied!

This time round when I went to You Huak Restaurant, we decided to try something different. We ordered the Mee goreng instead of their signature white bee hoon. their mee goreng is pretty good in fact. it was not too spicy, more ketchup taste instead. we also ordered the ngoh hiang. it was so awesome. the meat inside the ngoh hiang is so fresh and it taste absolutely juicy despite being deep fried.

we queue for sometime before we were seated so if you have children, do go earlier so you need not wait to long to be seated.

a thai twist Smile Jan 28, 2013

i was craving for something sour but did not feel like eating rice so i decided to order the tom yum fried bee hoon from this mini wok stall. the fried bee hoon was indeed delicious, did not regret ordering it. the bee hoon was very smooth yet it was cooked till it was very chewy. i like the fresh seafood they added to the dish like prawns and sotong. they added chilli padi to fry among the bee hoon, so if you are not a spicy eater, be cafeful what you eat. to make it more tom yum-ish, they added a lime to give it a more sour twist. as a whole it was really good.

Oh my baby crepe Smile Jan 23, 2013

I had a Tea Date with two of my friends at Paris Baguette. So glad my favourite Korean Bakery opens at Singapore! As we all had lunch already, we were pretty full but still wanted to try out the cakes, we decided to share a slice of cake. We ordered the Oh my baby crepe cake. It was so pretty that we could not bear to eat it. After numerous photo shots of the cake, we finally dig in. The cake was made up of layers of crepe, in between the crepes, there were cream. they topped it of with a raspberry. i was surprise to see that they took the effort to actually squeeze jam into the mini raspberry. i think cos the raspberry itself is very sour, so the jam kind of balance out the sourness. the crepe cake is not too sweet, and they did not add a lot of the cream too. as a whole i thought it was really good.

Dinner at West Co'z Smile Jan 19, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Halal | Zi Char

I decided to treat my mummy to some nice food at West Co'z as the rest of the family could not make it for dinner. The two of us ordered more than we could finish. We ordered a main course each, Thai Styled Fried Rice for me, Pineapple Rice for mummy. On top of the mains, we ordered two more dishes to add on, Bitter Gourd Omelette and Asparagus with Oyster Sauce. We each ordered an Orange Juice as our beverage as well. I will do a review on each dish.

Thai Styled Fried Rice ($5.50) - The fried rice was very fragrant, it was accompanied with a few pieces of fried chicken. They also set aside chopped chilli padi for you to mix in if you wanted a spicier taste. A slab of lemon was also placed at the side, I squeezed it and mixed the lemon juice with the rice and it gave it a sourish flavour. It was pretty good, the fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Pineapple Rice ($5.50) - I tried mummy's Pineapple Rice, the rice was like my fried rice, very fragrant. They fry cubes of chicken along with the rice. The pineapple was cut into pretty large chunks and there were quite a lot of it. The pineapple gave the rice a sweetish, sourish flavour.

Bitter Gourd Omelette ($6) - When my mum ordered the bitter gourd omelette, i was quite afraid that the entire dish would turn out very bitter, however, it was not the case! The bitter gourd did not taste bitter at all. The omelette is pretty huge size, well seasoned and goes well with the bitter gourd.

Asparagus with Oyster Sauce ($10) - Asparagus is one of our family's favourite vegetables. I was pleased to find it in the menu. The asparagus was cooked perfectly, it was juicy and crunchy at the same time. Its natural sweetness went well with the oyster sauce. They added the right proportion of Oyster Sauce so it did not taste too salty.

Orange Juice ($2 per glass) - The orange juice was not the freshly squeezed kind. It was more of the syrup kind. No pulp visible and found in the juice, but at least it was not too sweet and did quench our thirst.

Level of Service - i would give them 4 out of 5 points i guess. Mum and I did not wait long to be seated. The waitress did take initiative to approach us to take our orders. Food was churned out of the kitchen pretty fast too, but we went before the dinner crowd came.

This restaurant has a very comfortable atmosphere. It is a great place for family gathering, they have quite a number of large tables to cater to large groups of people. Baby chairs are also readily available for those with kids. Good place for gathering.

My recommendation is to come slightly earlier as this place gets pretty crowded during meal times and food may take longer to come out.
