wholly crab @ satay by the bay OK May 23, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Seafood

Felicia Chin has done it again. Her second venture into the food business throws up a hawker-cajun style seafood feast. Located at satay by the bay, this louisiana themed stall has been attracting all kinds of stars and fans of felicia.

relatively simple menu, choose your size, either S$60 or S$120, choose your sauces - cheese, kung pow, laksa, marmite or spicy tomato, and you wait patiently at your table for a bucket to arrive.

similar to cajun kings and dancing crab, a bucket will arrive here and piak, it goes onto your table and as we foodies say, let the feast begin. You will find crabs, shellfish and even sausages whilst using your hands to devour the mess on your table.

tao seafood @ asia square OK May 10, 2015

Categories : Asian Variety | Singaporean Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

Tao seafood is celebrating mother's day by whipping up some of Mrs Lee's favourite dishes. Yes, Mrs Lee is the wife of head chef Lee Tong Kuon and during this period, Tao seafood will be offering dishes that are well liked by the madam herself.what are the dishes? read more below!

Salted egg yolk fish skin

crispy fish skin married with curry leaves and salted egg yolk. More of the salty version rather than the sweet one, but it got the table salivating.

Chilled drunken chicken

Chicken braised in chinese wine and then chilled before being served. This dish brings back memories of traditional chinese cuisine. A hearty dish which goes well with their tao's blend of green chilli sauce

Stream egg with coconut juice

Coconut juice in steam egg? The first time I've tasted such a unique dish and there was even crab meat inside. It was definitely lovely. The salmon roe though made the dish a tad fishy which irked me, otherwise one spoonful wasn't enough.

Chef Lee's Wok Fried Prawns

Dish of the night. A combination of oyster sauce, fish sauce and garlic, these huge half shelled prawns were wok fried and served pipping hot. Fragrant and tasty, that wok-hei taste was also slightly apparent.

Special Orh Nee (3Hands)

And so the famous dazzing cafe from taiwan has lifted its shutters here in singapore. Located at the first level of Capitol, you won't fail to miss it due to its snaking queue during the weekend. Thankfully, we came during the first few days and managed to get a look into its food and menuthe mains

Mentaiko Spaghetti with cream sauce

A lovely use of the mentaiko. would have given it all 5 hands but there's still something missing which i can't tell myself. Great dish to share because it can be quite overwhelming.

next up comes the popular toasts ....

The Classic honey toast (3hands)

average at best. but the use of haagen dazs ice cream made the whole toast taste more premium. nothing much to rave good yet mehh.

The strawberry honey toast (3hands)

to me, it was the classic with an added strawberry topping. If you're a fan of strawberry, this toast should be your choice of order, otherwise, it taste exactly the same as the original.

Valrhona Chocolate Waffles (2Hands)

supposed to be a special waffle with mochi. You can choose various variants of flavours and as usual we chose the safest bet - the chocolate. What can I say - it is just not my cuppa tea. Texture was weird, tasted unique but not attractive. It may be me, but i stand my ground.

or else ,

you can just chill here with an order of their special mocktail.

house @ dempsey OK Apr 26, 2015

Categories : Fusion

Amidst the forage of greenery up at demspey hill, one might fail to notice this long colonial building all the way at the back. The curious however might chance upon this restaurant called House. Its interior stretches through the ground floor of the building, a bar and an al fresco setting give this cafe bar a feel unlike the usual eateries in Singapore today.

with its revamped brunch menu, read on to find what's new below. had a couple of drinks before the meal, first the alcoholic one followed by a mix juice which cleanses the body.

Macadamia-Crusted Pumpkin Salad

a healthy yet flavourful dish to me. i like how the roasted nuts gives the mushy pumpkin a crunch texture, complimenting the dish perfectly. The light tangy dressing gave the salad a mustard finish.

Turkish Salad

half of its ingredients seem alien to me, and it is almost house is giving us a vegetarian treat that afternoon. Tabbouleh, falafel, hummus and tzatziki, any one knows what ingredients are these? HAHA!

The Elegant Black Pepper Prawn Linguine

this was the favourite dish of the afternoon. Linguine pasta tossed in black pepper sauced, sided with grilled prawns and a serving of carviar. It was a treat to the taste buds and a dish i fondly remember till today.

Lean, Green Pasta

nowehere near my favourite of the day, but for vegetarians, it may be a happy belly dish for them. Gluten free fusilli tossed with pesto, asparagus, french beans and broccoli. Everything green is on this plate.

after the main course comes the cakes and desserts ...

From the pomegranate red velvet cake, the bitter chocolate tart to the grilled gluten free almond cake, these desserts were all out in force. The gluten cake was my favourite and yes, more healthy as well.

A new concept from ThaiExpress, Basil by thaiexpress targets the young, wild and trendy food goers. Its debut outlet at kallang wave mall aims to attract the young and wild generation seeking good and afforable food with a hip and rustic ambience.

so am told that the dishes at this new outlet are mostly whipped up from scratch. It is evident as I could taste that most of the ingredients such as the prawns and coconut used were really fresh.

the dishes

Papaya Salad

Light refreshing and all so spicy. I was just back from thailand a couple weeks ago and i realise how a good papaya salad comes about is the need for fresh ingredients.

Thai Fish cake

You can't go wrong with fish cakes. The one my basil was a tad soft but still had that otah thai fish cake taste. Marries well with the sweet and spicy sauce provided too!

Thai style salted egg calamari

Fried calamari on a wooden dish topped with salted egg yolk sauce. I would say very different from the usual thai salted egg yolk calamaris dished out in Singapore, this is more dry and less sweet. Nonetheless, that taste buds wowing salted egg yolk still delighted the table.

Songkran chicken wings

Wings made to celebrate the Songkran festival. Although it was quite salty, the wings were fragrant and juicy. The seasoning bits over the chicken gave the wings that crunchy sweet texture.

Stir-fried Phuket Bee Hoon

Phuket style bee hoon which was my other favourite dish of the night. That lime gave the whole dish a zesty flavour, coupled with the bee hoon which (my guess) was fried with coconut sauce. Tiger prawns adding a seafood taste to the entire dish. A unique flavour all round.

time for desserts

Mango sticky rice

Coconut sauce and mangoes were fresh. Apart from that, nothing much to rave about.
