Nunsongyee @ Serangoon gardens OK Feb 23, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Deep within serangoon gardens lies a dessert shop where few would come across - Nunsongyee, which is getting more and more popular by the day. This couple month old Korean dessert cafe sells ice kachang, in korean style. Yes it is called bingsu.Black Sesame Bingsu

The dish looked spectacular but i wasn't impressed upon trying the dish. The ingredients tasted very separated and didn't blend well with the ice shavings. Particularly the sesame and the red bean didn't go well together in my opinion.

chabuton @ somerset 313 Smile Feb 10, 2015

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Only available for a limited period of time i.e. 17 Jan to 31 March 2015, Chabuton introduces to ramen lovers - The Kurobuta. Currently having 3 outlets at Somerset 313, Tampines 1 and Star Vista, diners get to enjoy this exquisite dish created by Chef Yasuji Morizumi.

The Kurobuta

A blend of chicken collagen and tonkotsu soup, it was recommended that you shouldn't mix the whole dish when served. At $18.90, it justified its price and tag and gives leaves diners with the satisfied take away.

Medzs is introducing its breakfast menu to the city people @ Raffles Place. Located conveniently from Exit A, us, the city workers, have a new alternative for weekday breakfast.the eat ins

Scramble Eggs with Chicken Sausage, Mushroom and Bacon

a simple dish which whets the appetite of everyone - scrambled eggs. Coupled with sausages and that perfectly cooked mushroom, a light serving for a good breakfast.

Egg White Scramble with Smoked Salmon Gravlax

At $4.90, i liked this more than the scrambled eggs and yes this is much healthier with just egg whites. Although a tad salty with the smoked salmon, mix well and the egg white will complement the salmon well.

the take aways

Artisan Sanwiches and Baguette

From right to left - Laugen Brotchen with Pork Bierschinken & Red Cheddar Cheese (German) - $11.90, Beef Pastrami with Rustic Baguette (French) - $12.90, Olive Ciabatta with Prosciutto & Veal Paprika Lyoner Ham (Italian) - $12.90, Italian Panini Bread with Tomato Capresse & Buffalo Mozzarella (Italian) - $12.90. Don't be fooled by the size, its just the small portion we are getting. Its actually quite big.

the croissants

These croissants are the perfect takeaways. They have it spicy - turkish spiced chicken, they have it in seafood - lemonade crab meat mayo, and they have it traditional - ham and cheese. I preferred the ham and cheese, but all three flavours had their merits. Good for take away which is easy for a bite.

Another cafe has opened its door in my hood in toa payoh - The Daily Press. This under the block cafe in the midst of the ageing estate, serves up a good variety of sandwiches with a twist. Coffee's from liberty coffee.

The Coffee

Found out that the beans used are from liberty coffee and I liked how the beans are mixed to give that very neutral, non acidic flavour. If you are lucky and imaginative, you can give catch a pokeball shot in the shop.

K.F.C (Korean 'Fried' Chicken) sandwich

First impression counts and the the sandwich  was a real treat. The bread was a tad tough (due to its nature) but very flavorful. It complements that made from scratch korean fried chicken. Found out that the Daily Press makes their own kimchi, marinates the chicken in it and bakes the chicken with crumbs. All these work just that we can savour this dish on our table.

koji sushi bar @ china square Smile Jan 20, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Omakase

and so the trend continues with another japanese sushi bar popping up in the city. This time it is Koji Sushi bar @ China square. Serving up sushis, donburis for lunch and a omakasae menu for dinner. A quaint, modern setting, Koji can sit 22 pax while Chef Benny and his team work their magic in the middle. what did we have ?

Yuzu soda

Calpis soda

Both he yuzu and the calpis were made fresh. Refreshing drinks which goes well with our hot climate. I preferred the calpis more.

Sashimi platter of 5 fishes

The sashimi platter works best for a couple because most come in pairs. Really fresh, as what you might expect for a good japanese restaurant

Sashimi donburi

Served in normal white rice or brown nice, this sashimi don sums up what you can expect for a really good, satisfying and affordable japanese meal. Portions were reasonable for $17 and sashimi are cubed rather than minced. Every mouthful of rice comes with a piece of sashimi. catching chef Benny
