Masizzim @ Somerset 313 OK Nov 06, 2015

Categories : Korean

From the same folks who brought you Chir Chir, Masizzim Singapore is Somerset313's latest addition to the Korean food craze.

With hearty portions and loads of wonderful flavours, Masizzim distinguishes itself by serving famous Korean stews and other Korean dishes.

What to eat at Masizzim ? Here's what we had.

Sikhye Jar

Brewed malt barely and rice. A sweet drink yet thirst quenching, in house made and very fresh. Similar to the can malt barley drink you find everywhere in Korea.

Rice Balls

Anchovy

Tuna

Served in a bowl, you are encouraged to wear gloves and play with your food. Mix up the ingredients and roll them into balls, or any shapes you wish.

Personally, I favoured the anchovy rice balls to the tuna. You get different textures on the anchovy rice balls, the crush of the fish, the rice grains and the flavours mix every well together. Tuna was still good but i preferred that crush feel with every bite for the anchovy.

The stews

Beef Rib

Pork Rib

Well, as everyone had different opinions on the stews, personally I liked the pork one alot. Rich in flavours and the meat of the pork came of easily. The curry chicken and beef stew were good too, just that i preferred the pork more. Let me know which stew you guys liked.

Pancakes

Tomato Cheese Kimchi Pancake 3Hands $13

Looked like a pizza and tasted like a pizza. It confused me and I went away wanting for something else. Nonetheless, if you're a fan of cheese, this beef stuff pizza would delight you.

Squid and Leek 4Hands $14

My other favourite dish of the night - this squid and leek pancake is rightly crusted all over and the flavor was spot on. Cut out a piece, dip it with the in house sauce and you'll feel the different textures in every bite. I loved it.

Dessert Project @ Havelock Road OK Aug 02, 2015

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

And so I heard of another cafe along Havelock road serving ice creams, waffles and the famous shibuya toast. That's right, if you have heard about it too, it is a new shop under the blocks of flats called Dessert Project.

Dessert Project's interior - very simplistic, shades of grey and concrete. With black pipes running like an artwork.

We decided to pop by and we found creative flavours of ice cream - from truffle to parma ham and famous amos flavoured ice cream.

Ice Cream

The truffle flavour was way to dense, probably good to share. One scoop is too much for a pax. We liked the famous amos flavour which came out fresh from the kitchen when we arrived. A scoop for $3.80, $4.20 for premium flavours, it compares to most ice cream bars around Singapore.

Nutella Toast

A variety of toast to choose from and we ended up with Nutella. To be honest, the two scoops of rocher and vanilla ice cream were spot on. However, that couldn't be said for the toast. Although light and fluffy, it lacks that punch of butter. You can vaguely taste much butter when you cut open the toast which had us feeling quite disappointed. At $14.90, I would think twice before having this toast the next time.

Montana Brew Bar @ POMO (Part 2) Smile Aug 02, 2015

So have you heard, Montana Brew Bar now offers burgers to compliment their menu of waffles. Popped by to try out their affordable yet flavourful items.

Truffle Egg Burger

That egg, the piece of melted cheese above the decent chunk of beef patty. Grab it together and take a bite. Shiok I tell you.

Umami Burger

Miso shitakae mushrooms sautéed perfectly, topped above that beef patty. My favourite amongst the burgers. See that generous amount of mushrooms - generous yet just nice.

Pesto Chicken Burger

Chicken, pesto and corn. Something on the safe side. I felt flavours were lacking. Nonetheless, a safe bet in a menu of beef patties.

Thai Lemongrass Prawn Burger

Lemongrass prawn patty married with fresh onions and cubes of mango. drizzled with some green curry dressing. A great mix and a seafoody experience.

Categories : Taiwanese | Ice Cream and Gelato

Coolplay soft serve ice cream has finally nestled in Singapore, amongst the old estate of Toa Payoh. Yeap, that famous soft serve brand from Taiwan is finally opened here on our sunny island, and during a very good time when the weather is scorching hot.

Every week, the good folks at CoolPlay will offer four different flavours and I last heard that they have almost 20 different types of flavours to whet our palate. Nonetheless, not all flavours were to our liking but I can safely say that the chocolate and mint will be a fan favourite soon. Other flavours include peanut butter, rum and raisins, matcha, etc.....

Categories : Spanish | Bars/Lounges | Paella

Definitely not 'Free of Charge'. FOC (pronounced as fock and represents fire in spanish) is a contemporary Spanish tapas bar set in the heart of Hong Kong Street, delighting after work goers with their selection of good food, music and most importantly alcohol.

Was here on a tuesday night and boy was it crowded. Very typicality like of restaurants around the cbd but a good indication that you'll be in for a good time.

What did we have?

Grilled Iberico Pork ribs w Smoked Pumpking Puree

Tender, juicy but a long wait for this dish. Flavours were there but I didn't manage to catch much of the smokiness on the pumpkin.

Mushroom Croquettes

One is not enough. You'll need a second serving, a third or maybe you'll be able to wipe off the dish. Mushroom can be evidently found inside and the taste marries well with the potato. Crispy exterior, moist interior.

Squid Ink Paella

One of the best i've eaten. The seafood were fresh and cooked perfectly. The grains were consumed with the rich black squid ink. Very satisfying indeed.

Pulled Pork Taco

Certainly a different take on the normal pulled pork. Unique I must say. Taste wise, it was average and I still prefer the ones marinated in BBQ sauce and served in chunkful. This was rather small and very unsatisfying. You need more than 2, but it will bust your budget.
