1933 @ Capitol Piazza Cry Jun 22, 2015
Categories : Café

The bread talk group has recently launched its latest concept and added a new bistro at the newly refurnished Capitol Piazza to the cafe scene - 1933. Serving a wide range of asian food, this classy looking place warps diners back to the days of 1933.

Was invited to a tasting and here's what we got:

1933 Power Carrot

A French bread bowl - the bread was crunchy and absorbs the soup well. A hint of orange zest in the thick broth of carrots. We loved every mouthful.

Hainanese Kampong Chicken Rice

Chicken was tender but as a whole, the dish lacked that flavourful kick. At almost $20 for this, your expectation of our favourite local dishes will likely soar to the roof. Unfortunately, it left us wanting.

Nanyang Curry Chicken

Generous serving of ingredients and the curry tasted pretty good. Similar bread bowl being used and we completely wiped out the dish. The bread was the highlight.

Grill Pork Loin

A dish that's hard to perfect, and sure enough it wasn't up to mark. Grilled in thyme, bay leaves, honey and brine of the rack, the pork on the table somehow lacked in flavour. They offer you a choice of hainanese, black pepper or mushroom sauce. I'd go for the black pepper any day.

1933 Speciality Coffee (4hands

Coffee was to our liking and much better than most bistros. You even have a latte art of their name if you're lucky.

Tea

Collective brewers @ Changi Road Cry Jun 07, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café

Happened to be in the area in the evening one day and we decided to drop by this cafe serving a dinner menu. Collective Brewers is located along Changi road and if you are not observant, you would just miss this quaint little cafe.

So how was dinner?

Har Cheong Gai

One word - salty, but if you dipped it in the chilli provided, it tasted a little better.

Fried dough fritters

I quite liked this dried dough. You can't go wrong with fried stuff can you? The dip was a good accompaniment.

Pulled pork burger

hardly the best pull pork around. Spammed with bbq sauce, you don't taste the smokiness of the pork, or did they even smoke it ? disappointing to say the least.

Pandan chicken

We were surprised at the name of the dish and expected something amazing. Unfortunately, it too came out blend with just a hint of pandan flavour. Thankfully the chicken patty was juicy. Fries were lovely though.

Dancing Crab @ the Grandstand Cry Oct 12, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Restaurant | Seafood

How this place is being widely hyped, i have no idea. In the press, among write ups, it seem that dancing crab is the place to be at. Located at the furthest of places, the old turf city, now called the grandstand, Dancing Crab is a restaurant serving eat on the table style louisiana seafood.

A noval idea, serving boiled seafood, with different sauces, served on the table. You eat it with your hands, barbaric, brutish, messy. So whats my take on this place?

lobster combo with herb sauce

dungeness crab combo with beurre blanc

sri lanakan crab with zesty garlic butter

the crabs themselves

Overall reveiew: 3 Hands. I'm a fan of seafood. I have eaten in other similar concept restaurants and i found Dancing Crab very average in my. Can't understand why people are willing to queue so long for this. Yes, a noval idea of simple classic seafood eats, but Dancing Crab didn't excite my taste buds as i might expect. The sauces were average tasting,

1. Herb Butter - too oily in my opinon, the herb just did not blend well with the seafood, rather disappointing compared to the one at Cajun Kings

2. Beurre Blanc - This chilli like wine sauce, unique i can say.

3. Zesty Garlic Butter - Similar to herb butter, with more garlic flavour. My choice of sauce amongst the three.

I found that the sauces did properly fused with the seafood. Eating the the dish was akin to eating the seafood, and having the sauce separately. Also, to us Singaporeans, The Sri Lankan Crab should be big, like the ones in the picture above, yet, we were served a sri lankan crab which was small and unconvincing. Nonetheless, with only a few such places places serving these boiled seafood, it is worth a try to get your hands dirty, as well as working hard for the sacrificed seafood.

Lo and behold. Singapore is the first in Southeast Asia, to open the Pompompurin Café at Orchard Central with much fanfare. For a weekend ritual, make this cafe the perfect spot for parents to spoil their kids with the famous canine-themed décor.

Talk about a menu overloaded with colours and cuteness, we had Pompompurin’s Coconut Milk Chicken Curry . It’s a dish made up of chunks of chicken and mild coconut curry, topped off with veggies shaped as hearts, forks, stars and spoons. And, you have an adorable Pompompurin head-shaped rice to make you happy. It’s not spicy, but it tastes somewhat sweet instead. Still, the dish’s cuteness made up for everything!

For drinks, we picked the Cookie & Cream Caramel Latte . If you have a sweet tooth, this could be a drink and dessert for you. It’s a sweet and delicious drink, but its rich flavours can be too sweet for my liking. So, what are you waiting for? Unleash the inner child in you and indulge in the irresistibly cuteness of Pompompurin today! Ramen Keisuke has launched its 10th outlet at Clarke Quay - Lobster King. Nope, you will not find full lobsters in your ramen but you will find that the broth is brewed from lobster shells. The lobster broth is meticulously simmered for 6 hours and is used when you order your ramen. Was told that its opening hours are till 5am. So for the clubbers and chillers, this is the place to get your hunger pangs satisfied after a couple rounds on the dancefloor.

Below, we had the Lobster Broth Ramen (Clear Soup) and the Spicy Miso Lobster Broth Ramen. First thing when the ramen was served - lobster! That scent of lobster broth filled the air. Grab a spoon and dug into the soup and it was very flavourful. A tad salty but very delicious.

Besides the ramen, the omu rice (egg fried rice) was one of my other favourite dish. Grab a frozen beer to wash down the noodles and you're in for a great meal.
