My friend was recommending me to come to this place at Dover for coffee one recent afternoon and he brought me to SUTD. I was wondering if he brought me to the wrong place. After parking the car, we walked a short distance and found ourselves in a nice, high-ceiling cafe in the middle of the university campus.
It was a self-serve concept, where you order at the cashier and given a number. When your order is ready, the staff will flash your number and you collect the food from the counter. After eating, you also return the tray and cutlery at a tray-return counter.
The cafe bakes their bread fresh daily and the semi-open concept means you can see the chefs mixing dough in the back of the kitchen.
We had the following:
Ham & Cheese Sandwich with Bechamel, Honey Mustard and Fresh Apple Slices: $5.80 - What was interesting is that they added sliced apple to the sandwich. The kids loved it.
Desserts:
- Apple & Raisin Bread Pudding with Cree Anglaise: $4.70 - Rather unique is the bread pudding that has apple and raisin flavour in it. It was served with vanilla ice-cream and it's good.
- Dark Chocoolate Bread Pudding with White Chocolate Mint Sauce: $4.70 - This was even better than the apple and raisin one. Chocolate was rich and thick. Also served with ice cream and it was divine!
The cafe is now sited at the SUTD Campus, along Dover Road. SUTD will be shifting to their new capus in Changi, and this cafe will be moving to the new extension at Fusionopolis. You can visit them there.

This restaurant has just opened at Valley Point which underwent major renovations recently.
They have another outlet which is located at MBFC.
As it was a weekend, they had a weekend brunch menu.
My lunch group had the following:
- English Breakfast: $18 - Fried Eggs, Bacon, Mini Bratwursts, hash brown, button mushrooms, grilled tomato and smoky baked beans. You get everything that's cooked together in a frying pan, just like how you will cook it at home.
- Smoked Salmon: $16 - Scrambled Eggs with cut cmoked salmon, goat cheese and green pesto on thick cut toast. Ladies will love this, cos its healthy!
- Breakfast Roll with Sausage, Egg and Bacon: $9 - This was my favorite dish of all. It has all my favorite things: sausage, crambled eggs and bacon! I loved the scrambled eggs which was well done and eaten with the bacon, it was heavenly.
- Brunch Beef Burger: $19 - Fried Egg, Bacon, Avocado, Chipotle mayo, Rocket and Onion Chutney - This was very good. The beef patty was thick and juicy. The avocado added a nice flavour to the burger. The burger stands at about 7cm tall. The fries were hand cut and nicely fried.
- Banana Caramel Waffle: $8 - Freshly baked waffle with Honeycomb toffee ice cream, chocolate sauce and toasted almonds. Hot waffles that went well with the ice cream.
What I like about the food portions is that the portions are good-sized and very filling.
The restaurant sells wines by the bottle. But what stands out here are wines from the barrel. They have 3 different wines from Veneto, Italy:
- Pinot Grigio, Montelvini
- Prosecco Giera, Montelvini
- Merlot-Carbenet, Montelvini
I ordered the Pinot Grigio (white wine) and the Merlot-Carbenet (red wine). The wines tasted fresh and definitely value for money, if you order by the carafe. A 750ml carafe cost $46.80, compared to $50 - 70 per bottle of wine.
Happy Hour prices for the wines (till 9pm): Glass at $9.80, Carafes: 375ml @ $23.80, 750ml @ $46.80 and 1.2litre @ $72.80
They also have Paulaner beer on draught.
Highly Recommended!

Categories : Steamboat/Hot Pot

I have been to this restaurant on multiple occasions . For lunch, instead of steamboat, which you need to cook and it can be quite time-consuming, you can opt for dim sum and ala carte dishes.
As it was a business meeting, we opted for the ala carte and dim sum options.
Here are the meal highlights:
- Soup with Prawn Dumpling (Shui Jiao): soup is rich and the dumpling had minced pork, black fungus and prawns. It was filling.
- Prawn Dumpling (Har Kow): One of the best I have eaten. Its moist inside and ingredients were fresh. Recommended.
- Pork Dumpling (Siew Mai): Best eaten when its served to the table, when its hot!
- Beef Ball: This is a Cantonese dim sum. Minced beef rolled into a ball and steamed. Served with a sauce that reminds me of Worchester sauce. Chewy and nice.
- Steamed Radish with Prawn and Conpoy: this was nice. Radish was soft and the sauce for the dish was tasty.
- Mee Pok with Minced Pork and sliced Brinjal: The noodles were nicely stewed with the minced pork adding flavor to the dish. Try it!
- Molten Lava Bun: Steamed bun with a salted egg yolk and custard bun. Eat it cautiously, as the filling is hot and may scald you when you bite into it.
- Red Bean Paste Dessert: Red bean paste that has been cooked with dry orange peel. It has a nice citrus-sy flavor and I couldn’t stop till I finished the whole bowl.
Good quality dim sum that always hit the mark.
Highly recommended!

Amongst the many Indian restaurants in Little India, the one I always go to is this restaurant that’s located at Race Course Road.
I had a craving for North Indian food this week and proposed to my lunch group and they agreed. I brought them here.
Here are the meal highlights:
- Tandoori Chicken (Yoghurt): Marinated in yoghurt and cooked in tandoor oven. It was juicy and tasty. Delicious.
- Tandoori Chicken: marinated in spices and cooked in the tandoor oven. It has a nice smokey flavor and was nice!
- Lamb Kebab: Colored a deep red, which we think is due to the spice coloring. It is minced lamb and no strong lamb taste. Preferred the chicken to this.
- Basmati Rice: The rice is cooked with fennel and herbs. Frangrant and easy to eat. It has the texture of ‘butter rice’. It goes well with the butter chicken and palak paneer.
- Butter Chicken: This is one of the signature dish for the restaurant. It is not spicy and goes well with the basmati rice or roti. Good taste.
- Palak Paneer: Cheese cubes cooked in puree spinach. Healthy and nice.
- Cauliflower: This was cooked with Indian spices and was dry. Absolutely yummy. My lunch partners loved it.
- Vadai with Yoghurt topped with Saffron Powder: This is the vegetarian vadai (without prawn) that has been deep fried and then laden with yoghurt and topped with saffron powder. I tried it for the first time. I usually don’t like the vegetarian vadai. But after eating this, I am a convert. The yoghurt added a nice creamy texture to the dish and it was yummy. Try it!
- Roti: Simple flat brown bread that’s cooked over a flat plan without oil. Healthier than the traditional prata. Wouldn’t feel guilty eating this compared to eating prata. Also made fresh. Nice!
- Naan: We ordered the garlic and plain naans. Made fresh to order and best eaten hot!
I spotted the Gulab Jamon and would have ordered it if I wasn’t full. The next time!
We ended our meal with a masala tea, which was the perfect end to a good meal.
The restaurant was close to full, with many guests taking taxis to and from the restaurant. This shows its popularity amongst its customers who are prepared to travel to eat.

We were at the Centrepoint – Orchard Road area and looking for a place to dine for lunch.
We walked past the Cuppage Terrace and came across a ‘1 for 1’ deal for ramen and their set lunches.
We decided to go with the ‘1 for 1’ deal for their set lunches. The set lunches have a total of 8 options:
- Chicken Karaage
- Deep fried Prawns
- Deep fried Prawn and Fried Salmon
- Gyoza
For each of the above, you get a choice of:
- Rice ball wrapped in sweet tofu skin or
- Salmon rice ball with seaweed.
In addition, each set comes with a bowl of ramen. You have a choice of flavours for your ramen soup base: Salt, Soy sauce, Miso or hot Miso. You can also upsize your noodles to medium size for an additional $1 or large for $3.
As there were 4 of us, we ordered 1 each for the sets available, and chose both the rice ball and salmon rice ball, so that we can try both.
Here’s the verdict:
- Chicken Karaage: The chicken pieces were quite large and deep fried to a dark brown. Chicken were juicy.
- Deep fried Prawns: This is of the frozen kind. Nothing much to shout about.
- Deep fried Prawn and Fried Salmon: Prawn as mentioned earlier. The salmon was rather dry for my liking.
- Gyoza: 3 pieces of gyoza. It was ok.
- Rice ball wrapped in sweet tofu skin: The tofu skin was sweet and this is eaten like a sushi.
- Salmon rice ball with seaweed: cooked salmon that has been flaked and mixed into the Japanese rice together with furikake. It is pressed into a mould to ge the triangle shape and a piece of seaweed is placed on the outside. This was delicious and my lunch group loved it. Must try!
- Ramen: Each of us ordered different soup base. I had the miso and it was just salty enough for me. Loved it.
For 4 pax, we spent $45.
Try it!
