Lao Ban Smile Jun 15, 2013

Chilled soya bean curd pudding is indeed a really nice and refreshing dessert on a hot afternoon. After feasting at the Old Airport Food Centre, do drop by Lao Ban to get your dose of chilled bean curd dessert! Everyone (including me) raves about the fresh soya bean curd pudding that literally melts in your mouth. What probably sets Lao Ban from apart from other competitors is its nice wrinkly top layer of beancurd which has a slightly firmer, milkier consistency and taste.

Chee Cheong Fun Smile Jun 15, 2013

This stall whips out really good cantonese style rice rolls or chee cheong fun. I am very particular with this dish- I have tasted rice rolls that have been steamed slightly too long and as a result become too stiff and not palatable. But this stall serves out fresh chee cheong fun, made on the spot with really a nice nice soft silky texture. We ordered cheong fun with prawn and char siew ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised that the prawn filling was really generous and fresh- it was not just a few pieces of prawns and the prawns were really crunchy. Probably the best part of eating the silky chee cheong fun is with its fragrant soya sauce and chili!

Another stall worth a visit at the Old Airport Food centre is this particular stall that whips up the usual fried snack food such as goreng pisang and nian gao. I would usually go for their special goreng durian which is an absolute joy for a durian fan like me. Encased inside its crispy fried outer layer is a generous serving of fresh, warm molten durian puree paste that flows out with each bite. Real durian flesh were used and this was evident in the thick durian paste. Highly recommended!

Rojak Smile Jun 15, 2013

This rojak stall attracts many people and the demand is so huge that they have to implement a queue system to order your rojak. When you place your order, you will be given a queue number. Don't be deceived by the lack of crowds mobbing the stall- they are all probably waiting somewhere else for their number to flash!

I am not too sure why people find this one of the best rojak in Singapore but I guess the stall has got many things right on the dish. The ingredients were undoubtedly really fresh- chunks of juicy pineapple, cucumber, bean sprouts coupled with crispy you tiao and tau pok, covered in their very delicious prawn paste, scattered with crunchy peanut bits. It is a good mix of taste and textures and I enjoyed savouring every bite of this dish!

Char Kway Teow Smile Jun 15, 2013

I would always make a beeline to this stall whenever I'm dining at Old Airport Road Food Centre. On this particular afternoon (after lunch hours) that I visited, there were not many people ordering so I did not have to wait long for my plate of noodles to be served. In fact, it was freshly fried out from the wok, and I got to enjoy the dish piping hot!

I like that this plate of char kway teow is not too dry or too wet- the sweet black sauce covers most of the noodles evenly. The plate was really fragrant and each bite also revealed a slight "wok-hei" aftertaste. They were also not stingy with the ingredients- be it vegetables, beansprouts, cockles or lap cheong. Really enjoyed having their char kway teow!
