We tried this while exploring the well known Holland Village XO fish head bee hoon. It has a nice red, conspicuous signboard. We tried the chicken served on the normal plates and also the one served on the hotplate. Needless to say, the later beats in fact all other dishes on the menu. It's sizzling when it arrives. The mistake is not to open the cover fast. We thought we were smart, as this could prevent some spluttering of oil onto our attire. However, it captured some condensation instead. Otherwise, I think it would be better. Nonetheless, it's very tasty and I would like to try it again.

Pearl River Palace at Suntec has the best dumpling in Singapore. However, this is not the dumpling festival and neither do I have the photos.

So I was glad when I was invited to a wedding dinner there. Nonetheless, I didn't expect much.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Just look at the photos of the duck meat whose taste still lingers in my mouth. The skin is so crispy, I bet you won't find it elsewhere. 100 marks for this dish.

I think if you order the dish alone, it would be less than $20.

I visited the Old Town White Coffee at Jurong Point where I picked Rendang Chicken. It was very fragrant, though in terms of presentation, it was average (almost market like). I wonder if the taste is authentic to malaysia, but it's definitely just nice for me.

I also really like the ice old town white coffee. It's goes down perfectly after something spicy. I could do with two in fact !

The only thing I don't really like it's the stools since I was sitting at the central area. Nothing to lean against.

Gotto choose the side seats next time.

Visiting this filipino restuarant named after the official number of islands philippines has is a relatively luxurious experience. The ambience is nice - warm light yet not too dimmed. There is supposed to be life band from Thur to Sun. However, since we went on Monday, we have to give it a miss.

Thanks to my equally warm friends, I have a great experience getting to know the food - from the taste, to the way they are cooked (from their elaborate description), to understanding more about their culture. I like the sour soup best (Sinigang Fish Double) - for those who can't take too sour stuff, this may be a challenge. But when taken in between the heavy dishes, it creates an appetite for more. Sizzling Sisig (minced pork on hot plate) goes very well with rice and beer. Rellenong Bangus (stuffed milk fish) is also delicious, yummy! Finally, there is the crispy pata (very fatty crispy pork strips) and chicken pork Adobo. Most of the dishes are not easy to cook. Let's take a simple example - Chicken Pork Adobo:
In this case, the combination of pork and chicken is slowly cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, crushed garlic, bay leaf, and black peppercorns, and browned in the oven or pan-fried afterward to get the desirable crisped edges. Hence two rounds, and this is considered relatively simpler.

Most of the patrons are filipinos , and my friends enjoy the music very much (even though it was just piped-in music for that evening).

Okay, filipinos out there, here's the place for you. For those who have not been to philppines, and want the real thing, this is the place too !

Basically, it's as good as it can be.

It's Dinner @ Esmirada !  Smile Dec 05, 2010

This is one of my favourites. A very special dining experience awaits you as you step into the Mediterranean cuisine Restaurant. It's a little dimmed down to ensure the candle light atmosphere sits you down appreciating the place, anticipating more.

You need to order the signature dishes : the tantalizing Esmirada Meat-Skewers which is served on an huge iron frame,so huge that it makes you feel guilty. Eating is central to the theme and it is visually captivating. We didn't miss the other signature dish too - spicy Moroccan Cous Cous. At the same time, they didn't forget the service. The waiter will greet you, ask if you need recommendation for the dishes, and ensure you are well looked after. They will also make an effort to joke with you, though I suspect some are rehearsed.

The only thing I lament is that the night was a little thin, so they didn't do the "Esmirada 'Zorba' - an ancient Greek habit of smashing plates for good luck! If you intend to go, go on Sat night. The chances are higher that they do this.

A lovely evening and eating experience for you. Great for chilling out !
