My first soup spaghetti :) Smile Mar 17, 2012

Hokkaido Cheese Cream Soup Spaghetti

Hokkaido Cheese Cream Soup Spaghetti

This is my second time at this Japanese pasta restaurant. Perhaps it's because we went there early about 6pm, there was no queue and it was not as crowded as the first time when I visited it on a Friday night. Hence my friend and I did not have to sit right inside.

The Standard Chartered credit card promotion was still available, although the set meal is now $1++ more expensive than the last time I was there. tongue Anyhow, this time I picked the Hokkaido Cheese Cream Soup Spaghetti with Scallop, Corn & Potato as it sounded interesting, given that I had never tried a soup spaghetti before.

When I was served my spaghetti, I was a bit shocked as I could hardly see my soup. But upon scooping up some of the spaghetti I realised that it was because the bowl was quite deep and actually the amount of soup was just right. I shouldn't be expecting my usual fishball soup style! tongue However I must say that the first few bites of my spaghetti were a bit too tough. Probably the spaghetti had to be soaked in the soup for a longer period of time, because it didn't taste as hard as the first few bites by then. smile

I enjoyed this pasta set meal very much as I was very full and satisfied at the end of my meal. In addition, this time round, as we were seated at the first section of the restaurant after the entrance, the ventilation was much better and we could easily get the attention of the waiters. smile

Eggs Benedict! OK Mar 15, 2012

Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict

When a friend suggested to dine at Robert Timms after a movie at Cineleisure, I immediately agreed after seeing the menu that it serves Eggs Benedict. Hehe...

It is a pretty decent Eggs Benedict I must say, although I still can't forget the one I tried at Antoinette! The taste here is average, considering the price I paid. I would have expected a more wholesome meal. Somehow the way they cooked the eggs, it was just not as soft and fluffy as I expected it to be.

Maybe I will give Robert Timms another chance by trying out its main courses next time instead of the "breakfast" items. ;)

Great Tasting Ramen! Smile Mar 12, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen | Kids-Friendly

I found this little Japanese ramen shop through online food reviews recently which highly recommend its ramen. It is pretty near to my new office at One Raffles Place.

If you know where the Boat Quay MacDonald's is, you should have no problem finding this little restaurant as it is the road next to Mac. We were lucky we reached the restaurant at about 11.40am, as a queue started to form after we ordered our ramen & sat down.

My Miso Ramen - half portion

There is only GST charge at this little restaurant, but the price you see on the menu is already inclusive of GST. You need to order & pay at the counter before you can be seated to wait for your ramen to be served. Since the signature ramen here is Miso Ramen - half portion ($10.50), & according to the cashier it is not as strongly flavoured as Shoyu Ramen, I decided to order this. My colleague ordered the Shoyu Ramen - half portion ($12.00) & we both decided to add an egg each to our ramen ($1.50 each). There wasn't a wide variety of choices in the restaurant as they only serve 3 types of ramen & 2 types of don. Guess it's a very traditional type of Japanese ramen shop......

Oh you must be thinking why we both ordered half portion only? Because I read reviews that the normal portion is huge & hence we didn't want to make ourselves so bloated. tongue

My ramen was wonderful! The soup base wasn't very salty, in fact just right for me, & I almost finished the soup in the end! This is rare for me given that most Japanese soups are very salty to me hehe. The charsiew that came with the ramen was quite a big piece, very generous, & wow, it was really tender! I think it has been the best Japanese Miso Ramen that I have eaten so far? hehe and the half portion is just right for ladies I guess.

I will definitely visit this ramen place again if I have a craving for it during lunch, but must make sure I reach there before 12pm! ;)

Skiving @Skyve on a lazy Sunday Smile Mar 11, 2012

Categories : European | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant

I read about Skyve - Elementary Bistro & Bar from the papers recently & thought this could be a cool hangout for a weekend breakfast / brunch, especially because it also serves my new favourite breakfast - the Egg Benedict! smile Excited that 2 friends were willing to give it a try, I quickly made a reservation for 3 of us for a weekend brunch earlier today.

All 3 of us ordered our food from the Loafing Breakfast menu as it is available during weekend brunch hours till 4pm. Check out our lovely food:

All the breakfast dishes we ordered above were awesome (all $12++ each)!

1. Skyve Sous Vide Egg Benedict

I had this egg benedict, which came with 2 eggs with hollandaise sauce, 1 grilled portobello mushroom, 1 sourdough bread (toasted), sweetcorn and arugula salad. The grilled portobello mushroom was topped with 1 of the eggs, and it was yummy! The bread looked very hard, but it was actually just nice, crispy yet chewy, and very fragrant. The salad was great too, the greens used look like those bitter types but again, looks were deceiving haha. I actually "licked" the plate clean as it was too good to waste any part hehe.

2. Potato Rosti

2 pieces of the potato rosti were served, together with smoked salmon, tomato and avocado salsa. I had a bite of the potato rosti, and it tasted like a cross between a hashbrown and the rosti we see in Marche or Switzerland. Delicious! smile

3. Croque Madame

The Croque Madame looked the most appetitising and colourful when I compared against the other 2 dishes. There were 2 pieces of brioche bread sandwiched with melted cheddar cheese, sliced ham and tomatoes, accompanied with a sunny side up egg as well as salad. Again I had a bite of the sandwich and it wasn't as hard as it looked, in fact it was similar texture as the bread on my plate. smile

We also ordered a beverage each - a pot of Earl Grey tea for myself ($6++ each), a Cafe Latte ($6++) and a freshly squeezed Orange Juice ($8++) for my friends. I had a total of 2.5 cups of tea from the pot, very worthwhile! tongue

This Bistro & Bar's location is away from the city hustle, tucked in an old school building next to ACS (Junior) school. However it's still pretty convenient, about 10 minutes of leisurely walk from Newton MRT (Newton Circus exit). So, if you are thinking of having a leisurely weekend breakfast/ brunch, without compromising on quality of food, don't miss Skyve! ^^

Dinner at Pasta Inc Smile Mar 10, 2012

Categories : Italian | European | Restaurant | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

My friend stays in the Tanjong Pagar area, so we decided to have our dinner at Pasta Inc as it was just a 10-min walk and it has quite good food reviews online.

From the exterior, Pasta Inc. looks very much like a romantic fine dining restaurant, & we hesitated a bit because it was just 2 of us gals, not a couple! lol...... But anyway since the food prices on the menu don't look too exhorbitant, we decided to go in after 'surveying' other restaurants along the street.

Only 2 tables were filled, & they were both couples. tongue Anyhow, we ordered a pasta each, & my friend also ordered a antipasti (appetizer) for herself (prawns hence I couldn't eat).

Well I had the penne as I knew if I had the carbonara, it would prove too filling / creamy for me. At first try, the penne taste didn't appeal to me, but as I ate, I started to like the way it was cooked. smile However I couldn't finish my pasta & had to leave some penne behind while making sure the sausages ended up in my stomach hehe.

I had a mouthful of my friend's carbonara & it was quite well done too. But as expected it proved too creamy after a while so my friend also couldn't finish, in fact I think her leftover was more than mine.

While we were eating our pasta, the friendly chef came out to us and said he would prepare a special dessert on the house for us.... So nice ya? Take a look at what it is ;)
On-the-house dessert!

On-the-house dessert!

The dessert looks good, isn't it? When I asked the chef what it was called, he said he hadn't named it yet, so if we want, we could help me come up with a name haha. It was actually Tiramisu with a stick of chocolate wafer on top, and cheese topped with cooked pear slices by the side. The pear slices were very sweet! The dessert was very good. smile

Though I wouldn't say this is a must-visit Italian restaurant in town, but the service is pretty good, with nice ambience & reasonable food yet will not burn your pocket. I paid slightly below $25 after adding all the service & GST charges for a very full meal.

So if you are in the area, perhaps you can try it out! smile
