Went past this place again on the way home and i decided to drop by to takeaway a quick lunch!

Ordered the fried noodles - $7

Expensive but it was pretty nice! There were quite a lot of veggies (beansprouts, onions, spring onions) in it. Prawn was crunchy too! I like the crunchy kind. Adding the lime juice to the beehoon is nicer, i feel. It isn't that oily but still on the oily side. I think it's an quite nice, but not exceptionally delicious or anything.

2nd visit~ OK Jan 11, 2013   (Related Review)

2nd visit to this restaurant, I think the dishes we ate the first time was a tad better.
I realized that this time, the lighting seems darker. LOL. Not sure if it's just me.

Pan Fried Dumplings - 8 for $8
I didn't really like it. Skin was a bit hard, like it was fried for two long. The fillings was alright.

Pig intestine mee sua - $8
I didn't try the pig intestine, not interested in it. LOL. Mee sua was quite good. I added vinegar too it, tasted better.

Taiwanese Beef Noodles - $12
I thought this was overpriced ): It was a little too spicy for me and the beef was not very soft and tender. The noodle was a bit too thick. Soup had some kind of herb-taste. I think it was nice, but a little spicy.

Added the dessert for $5 (with purchase of a main course), dessert of that day was green bean and red bean crushed ice. This was similar to the mango crushed ice. Just crushed ice with red bean and green bean on top. Not very nice ):

I may not go back to this restaurant as i think the dishes are overpriced, and not exceptionally nice. May only go back for the chicken chop rice if i visit the restaurant.

OK, what's next? OK Jan 11, 2013

Ordered the duck noodles as it the the first stall on the right once you step in from the side entrance.

The sweet was quite sweet! I didn't really like it on its own. But it was a different story once you eat it with the noodles. Storekeeper gave quite a lot of noodles. I wasn't able to finish as there were no more ingredients left. Duck was marinated well, absorbed the soup taste. I didn't try the skin as it was too fattening. There were a few pieces of fishcake and tofu, other than that, not much interesting things inside. But for a price of about 3-4$, it was quite filling, so i guess it's worthwhile if you just want to fill up your stomach!

Expensive Simple Food OK Jan 10, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Porridge/Congee | Kids-Friendly

My parents and i decided to try this restaurant after passing by it a few times. It is situated along the main road of upper bukit timah road. The restaurant provides free parking as it is more accessible by car. However, i think there's one busstop a few meters away from the restaurant. It gets pretty dark at night so it may be safer to go with a group of friends as there are some construction works going on nearby.

Upon entering the carpark, one can see the waitress hovering around the door to open the door for us. Once we stepped out of the car, she quickly went to the door to welcome us. I thought that this was a very warm and pleasant feeling! But it dawn on me that they were able to do this as the restaurant was quite empty.. even during dinnertime. shocked
There was quite a large variety of items to choose from, like zi char store but we ate with porridge instead of white rice. Quickly ordered the food as we were quite hungry and the pictures all look very appetizing and delicious!tonguetonguetongue

Like i mentioned previously, the restaurant was pretty empty so you could hear the conversations going on at the next table. They tried to make the place more lively by playing some chinese songs but it kept repeating the same few after awhile.

I guess the place caters to bigger groups as it was quite a big restaurant, and it was kind of situated in the middle of nowhere! haha!

Food!:

First, the porridge - $0.60/ea. came

All the bowls had at least 2 sweet potatoes. Their porridge is cooked with sweet potatoes. Simple and nice.

Next, beancurd in hot wok - $10. The gravy accompanying the tofu adds to the flavor. I used the gravy to boost the flavour of the porridge. tofu is "tie ban dou fu" but in a wok. It has carrots, mushrooms, big slabs of spring onions and an egg at the bottom. Egg was runny (i like this kind) and it soaked up the gravy a little, making it more flavorful. The rest was OK, nothing special.

Eggplant with dried shrimp - $8/12
We ordered the smaller portion. I love the brinjal! Actually, I love all kinds of eggplant, so this one isn't a surprise. This eggplant was not as mushy as others, a little more.. sturdy? lol. LOVE IT! lol

Braised chicken with rice wine in hot wok - $10/15
Finally, they saved the best for the last. This dish was very nice. I could taste the rice wine distinctively. Only qualm is that they gave the boney parts. Lazy me doesn't like to maneuver around the bones to eat the meat. But! i like this dish as it was really fragrant (due to the rice wine?).

Overall, this restaurant is actually quite expensive considering the dishes we ordered. Not sure how they're going to survive as when i was there, only 3 out of the numerous numbers of tables were occupied. I think there are other places that serve similar food at a lower price. However, no harm in trying the chicken! Maybe you may like other dishes too!

Note: Wet tissue ($0.30/ea.) is non-refundable! huffy But there's no service charge, so i guess it balances out somehow.

taiwan food OK Jan 10, 2013

This restaurant was tucked along the chain of restaurants at the 2nd floor. It is pretty obvious with the bright red lanterns hanging outside the store. I went in for dinner to try out the food!

Menu:

Few items were unavailable. Service was pretty good as there were enough staffs running around.

Sweet potato fries - $5.90
Sweet potato was really nice and was fried nicely.

Braised Meat Pork Rice - $8
My friend ordered this (i don't like the taste of pork). She said it's really oily (expected from the thick slab of fats between the layers of meat) I think it was pretty good as evident from her comments.

Chicken Chop Rice - $10
Thick cuts of chicken meat! and it was fried to perfection!

Mango ice
Not worth it as it's just one whole big chunk of ice at the bottom and topped with mango syrup.

Note: They'll keep asking you to pay once they finish serving all the main dishes. We insisted on paying after we finish and was called to pay 3-4 times by different people. Inflexible much.
I think there were some hits and misses here! will try other dishes in the near future.
