Tartful OK Jul 29, 2013

Bought this Strawberry Tart from Delifrance before heading to work so that I can have a light snack when I'm hungry whilst working.

I was hoping for maybe a fruit or a peach tart but as I was there pretty early, the staff told me that they only had the Strawberry Tart.
I was a little hesitant as I'm not really a big fan of strawberries, having taste sour ones more often than the sweet ones.

Lady luck wasn't on my side this time round as I got the strawberries that were quite sour to me (Disclaimer: I dislike sour food). Luckily, the crust was there to buffer the sour-ness of the strawberries. The crust was thick but soft at the same time, it's not too hard even though I suspect that it have been left overnight (most food in the morning are known to me as a leftover from previous day). I also like the icing part that was between the strawberries and the crust.

If the strawberries were sweeter, I would definitely go back to try more. I would prefer to try the other tarts next time.

Basic OK Jul 29, 2013

This is the seafood hor fun from the fish delights store. The only thing i like about it is this it is served piping hot! You can see the steam coming out from the food in the picture itself. There are squids, fish, prawns and vegetables in this dish. Pretty basic and mediocre stuff if you ask me. The egg floating around in the gravy gave it a pretty nice taste too which adds to the flavour of the gravy.

Perhaps if you're hungry, you could order this hor fun and a bowl of rice. I think the gravy with the bowl of rice would taste a lot better.

Shabu Shabu! OK Jul 29, 2013

I believe that this is the 2nd outlet to the one at Cathay Cineleisure. it has been known to be reasonably priced but maybe the rent at star vista was higher, they have incorporated the increase in price to the customers as well. I didn't think it was that worth it for this quality of food.

We ordered the Wagyu Beef Set for a promotional price of $49.90, original price = $70+?! WOW.

The soup base was quite bland to me, ordered the original miso soup so that I didn't have to be charged extra which will most probably ruin the taste of the beef anyways. Although the price was really quite high, I must say that the beef was quite tender and soft. There were no connective tissues in the meat at all which made it easy to chew. I'm not too sure of the grade of the beef but I believe its somewhere up there since they could charge so much. The vegetables were normal as you have to control the fire yourself.

I kind of like the sauce that they gave but honestly, I really don't think it's worth the price. You can get the same type of beef at a korean restaurant with a better taste.

Nice presentation of our cutleries.

We ordered this vegetable dish which was a special type of vegetable and couldn't be found elsewhere at other zi char stores.

I think it is a cross between spring onions and perhaps, spinach as it was crunchy and had the spring onion taste but it also had this spinach taste, thus my funny description. It's really unique but the sauce was a little too salty for my liking. However, I found myself reaching for more. It's still quite enticing nontheless.

We also ordered the soon hock fish.

My family never really like eating the whole fish as we were lazy and didn't want to deal with bones. But this time, it was different as the fish was really fresh! I could still taste the ocean while I was eating! HAHA! It may be a freshwater fish though, I'm not too sure.

Overall, this is a good place to have a mini gathering with your family and friends!

Sweet! OK Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Thai | Restaurant

I settled down peacefully and was in midst of waiting for my food when I receive an urgent call and had to rush off.
The waiters were very understanding and didn't make a fuss about my food being in preparation.

I was only able to semi enjoy the thai iced milk tea ($4.80) that came before the call. I ordered this as I was craving for the thailand milk tea I drank at from the roadside stall. The milk tea here was way too sweet and didn't have the strong tea taste. Not too sure what was the root cause but it didn't transform me back to thailand so I think this wasn't on par.
