Real Sushi Craving OK Jul 29, 2013   (Related Review)

Really had to eat some sushi the other day! I didn't waste any stomach space ordering the ramen, side sishes, etc.

Devil's Maki ($12.99)
This sounds really interesting and at first I thought it would be flaming hot. But nope! This maki came in a set of 8 and consisted of salmon, cheese, cucumber and lady's finger. Salmon sashimi was slightly seared, i like how it's like half cooked and half-raw.

Cheese Maki ($4.29)
I like the cheese and prawn combination. Both of my favourite food! smile The crepe also added to the delicious-ness of the sushi.

Salmon Mayo Maki ($4.29)
This was a new dish, salmon mayonnaise in beancurd skin. Not very special but if you like salmon, do give it a try! smile

SUSHI CRAVING SATISFIED!

Good alternative  OK Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum | Steamboat/Hot Pot

Wanted to try TimHoWan but the queue was way too long and I was too hungry to wait. We went to this crystal jade to try the dim sum instead.
I ordered the Har Gow, Chee Cheong Fun and Custard Bun

($5.20)
I love the filling in the har gow! The prawn inside was crunchy, the way that i like. Some parts of the skin was a little dry though. I think they also added something inside that made it especially sweet! Tasted a bit flour-y.

I actually thought this was the steamroll with prawns/char siew inside as the menu stated that it was steam rice tool/sesame seed ($3.80). Was quite surprised as I've always loved sesame and another with sesame would make me have an instant liking to it. I think the yellow looking liquid is mustard? So there were ketchup and mustard with the chee cheong fun. Pretty good!

The custard bao was okay, I like that the skin was soft and it looks like little man-tou. ($4.00)

Not a bad dim-sum place to dine if you're looking for an alternative to TimHoWan!

salty OK Jul 29, 2013

Tried this relatively new stall after being indecisive about what to eat. At this stall, all the dishes are steamed, hence the name. I was quite excited about it as it seems to be a real healthier option from the other oil-laden food court food!
I was quite disappointed that the dish is quite salty! I ordered the steamed tofu fish paste with brown rice ($3.90 + $0.80)
The brown rice was quite good, fragrant and delicious. It's not too mushy and you can see each distinct rice.
The tofu was too salty not my liking but I think as a new stall, they may be still trying out their level of this and that dish so I may go back to try their other signature dishes!

Cheap! OK Jul 29, 2013

Popiah has been one of my favourite snacks ever since young. I like how the store owners always cut it into bite-sizes and the filling seems to hold really well even though the skin was very thin.
I went to the well-known ABC brickworks which seems to have many many types of good food and decided to try the popiah to bring back some memories! I think i was a little too late as most stalls seem to have close/they don't work on that particular day.

I like the filling of it, the turnip with peanuts and egg seems to hold really well inside. There were some crunchy sweet things inside too which was a little hard? I spat some out. Perhaps it was overcooked. The skin was a little tough to break apart, which wasn't suppose to be the case.

I'm not very sure what is so special about this popiah. Maybe the name? Or maybe for its cheap price ($1.50), I'm not too sure. Nevertheless, I've already tried one of the famous popiah and I would love to try more! smile

Macaroni  OK Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Multi-Cuisine

My family and I were going away for a long holiday and we decided to eat at this eatery as we will most probably not be able to find these food overseas! It was breakfast hour so it was a little packed and I think the staff were a little stressed as they seem frustrated. This made most customers jumpy as most of us, if not all, had a plane to catch and I don't think we appreciate the loud anxious voices in the morning.

I ordered the chicken macaroni as I wanted something hot but not too much/too little. The serving size was just right (for the moment) but if I was eating it as a meal, I would've wanted more to fill my stomach. There were a lot of vegetables but the chicken seems to be missing.. I only saw some of it down at the bottom of the bowl. I think I prefer the one where I ate at the previous time. Or perhaps, I was fairly bothered by the wait staff that I wasn't able to enjoy my meal properly.

I think the next time round, we'll probably head over to other eateries to avoid these waiters.
