I've always noticed that the Koreans who dine at Korea restaurant ordering this dish: Chadol Duenjang Jjigae ($16)
I was apprehensive about trying it as I thought it would be crazy spicy with the amount of redness in it! I asked the waiter and he assured me that if I'm able to take a little bit of spicy food, I should be fine.
This is essentially a traditional Korean soybean paste stew with beef and vegetables. It is cooked at tableside where the waiter would stir it around this pot and served it after it's done.
I'm glad I had the guts to try this dish as when paired with rice, it's really good! You have to mix it like you're eating bibimbap! The soy paste is really fragrant and it wasn't that spicy (or at least i could still take it!)
I've yet to try the BBQ beef that other patrons around me are always ordering as I couldn't find a right time to drag my peers to endure the BBQ smell after dining.

Spending per head: Approximately $16

More seats please! Smile Jul 28, 2013

Made a reservation for lunch at this place to get the 10% student discount! HEHE. This restaurant has a really simple theme with metal chairs and a big hanging TV where diners can enjoy their meals whilst watching TV. While i was waiting for my food, I counted the number of chairs inside and indeed, there were 49 seats! How cool! I hope their business grows even bigger and they can house more patrons lol

I ordered the Pan Fried Fish in Al Scampi Sauce as it was one of the much raved about dish (Other than the tom yum pasta (i didn't feel like eating spicy food that day)). The sauce is CRAZY awesome!!!!! There were little clams and prawns inside and there's more than 1-2 of them. The sauce is really creamy and omg, delicious! I'm drooling as I type this. HAHA! The fish is soft and smooth and was quite a big piece!
There were a lot of fries which I couldn't finish ): Otherwise the whole plate would've been cleaned and sparkly that they didn't have to wash it. Because I swear If I could, I would lick the plate clean. haha!

The set also included one soup of the day and a drink (it was in a vintage tin can! really cool. I was too hungry to snap a picture) haha! All the dishes are also reasonably price even before the student discount as they were not stingy in serving size.

I will definitely be back to try the other dishes although I must say, this is one of the best sauce around!
The place is also quite easy to find as when you come out of the mrt station, you just have to walk straight and turn right after you see a indian temple (and keep walking straight!) we got lost and made a huge detour before we saw the signboard. haha!

Soup Restaurant's Samsui ginger restaurant has always been one of my favourites around as the ginger is powerful enough to match the taste of the chicken. We decided to go to the branch at woodlands after my father ended work.

We ordered 3 dishes: double boiled dried scallop with black chicken soup, fried kang kong with fermented beancurd and also the star of the night: Samsui Ginger Chicken!

The soup came quickly after we ordered and I must say, the ingredients were more than the soup itself! Plus points for them! From the picture, you can see the the scallop is a huge chuck of scallop which is happily floating around, waiting for me to ingest it. There were also mushrooms and some herbs at the bottom. This dish has a description that says that it improves your memory/attention, good for those kids who are busy studying and trying to memorize facts into their little brains!

$8.90

I didn't really like this dish as I felt it was a little dry. The fermented beancurd taste also didn't really stick with me. I still ate it as I needed some greens in my diet otherwise I feel really uncomfortable.

$7.90

Lastly, the Samsui Ginger Chicken! I was not disappointed by this smile The chicken was smooth and soft, paired with ginger, it was impeccable! The layout of the dish also impressed me as it was really pretty. My family had to ask for about 3-4 more plates of ginger before we could finish this whole dish! That's how good it is! smile

$30.90

With the opening of another branch near my house, I'll surely be reporting there frequently to get my fix of ginger chicken!

Pizza Heart! Smile Jul 18, 2013

Headed over to Pizza Hut to try the cheap lunch deals as I always see people queuing up at dinnertime! I went there around 2-3pm and the lunch crowd was probably gone already as there were only 3-4 tables occupied. The service was impeccably fast and staff were very friendly and courteous. As the restaurant was relatively empty, the service was very fast and they were always hovering around, ready to serve the customers.

I ordered the Student Lunch Special which came with 1 free flow soft drink and a side dish of your choice. For the main dish, I chose the Chicken Pomodoro. This lunch costs me $7.90++ ($9.20 w GST and service charge).

Cream of Mushroom Soup

Cream of Mushroom Soup

The soup of the day was Cream of Mushroom Soup. The simmering soup let out a delightful aroma of scents. I like the consistency of the soup and plus point to it was that there were visible cubes of mushroom in the soup! I was so tempted to order another bowl of soup but luckily, my drink came. On hindsight, I think I would've been too full after the pasta.
Miranda Orange

Miranda Orange

I chose the Miranda Orange as my drink. I think it was generous of them to serve the drink as free flow. But sadly, it was a waste to me as I prefer plain water instead of soft drinks.
Chicken Pomodoro

Chicken Pomodoro

Lastly, the Chicken Pomodoro! The tangy smell of tomato sauce combined with the earthy scent of basil, topped off with garnishes of olives and peas drums up thoughts of a garden in spring. The pasta was cooked al dante which was really nice. Although the garnishes added to the lovely image of the food, I unfortunately did not like olives and peas, hence I did not eat them in the end. There were many pieces of chicken in this dish as well! What's more, they are skinless, the way I like them.

Overall, I like that Pizza Hut has student meals at such an affordable price to attract us. The serving sizes were not compromised and they do maintain their standards even though consumers paid a lesser price. I will definitely be back to try the other dishes on the student lunch specials menu! smile

Quick Lunch Smile Jun 30, 2013

Walked over to this Sakae sushi branch to satisfy my Japanese cravings with my mom!

The restaurant is pretty quiet on a weekday, especially during lunch time so the service staff weren't running around at top-speed like when they were during dinner hours. Service was still very prompt nonetheless.

We ordered the mandatory Salmon Sashimi (8 pcs - $9.99). The slices were very fresh, but sadly, weren't as thick as last time. Still, I like the sashimi very much!

Next, came the Chicken Cheese Yakimono ($9.99). I like the cheese on top as it was really rich, but for those who are watching their weights, they should give this a miss as it is laden with a large amount of oil! The chicken was not skinned so the layer of fats is still there. There are about 6-7 pieces. Though, the combination was pretty good. Wished they used lesser oil though!

Lastly, we had the Salmon Karaage ($2.29). It had one piece of salmon cheek and another part of the fish. We usually eat the salmon karaage which was a lot simpler as the bones were already taken out! I kind of like this part (albeit the bones were a hassle). I felt that compared to the karaage, this had a tad less meat, but relatively, this part was quite delicious too!

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this meal at Sakae Sushi as usual. I just wished that the prices would decrease ): Or at least, they could serve a larger portion for the price!
