Dim-sum dollies Cry Jan 11, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court

Wanted to have some dim-sum for breakfast! But it wasn't as scrumptious as i thought it would be ):

Dim sum at the bottom left was really really bad. It's mango with prawn wrap. I think it was supposed to be crispy, or at least somewhat crispy. But it turned out to be cold and disgusting. I didn't like it at all. Chose it as it was the last 2 pieces, thought it was going to be nice but, EEW. NOPE.

The har gow was not too bad as it was left in the steaming fridge-like thing. Taste quite nice.
Glutinous rice was quite filling, the rice wrapped up a number of ingredients - mushrooms, meat, nut

I think it will be better to go in the early morning if you want to eat nicer dim sums. Plus, it doesn't help that the lady from china did not know anything about the food she was selling. She just said "wo zhi shi mai dong xi de, bu zhi dao bu zhi dao" when i asked her about some things in the dim sum. BAD SERVICE! huffy huffyhuffy

OK hokkien mee.. Cry Jan 10, 2013

Ordered the hokkien mee, i didn't really like it ): The taste of yellow noodles was very strong. Noodles weren't springy at all and i think it was overly watery! The taste felt diluted. The prawn was very unfresh. Prawn meat was a little flaky and the shell was practically sticking to the prawn meat. There was also too little beansprouts and spring onion.
The chilli was sub-par. Not really spicy also.

I think i would try the other dishes that the other reviewers recommends instead the next time!

hmm.. Cry Jan 09, 2013

This eating place now only allow take-aways as they're going through some renovation work/still in some sort of legal problem over land ownership.

Anyhow, the glory days of this restaurant seems to be of the past as majority of the reviews nowadays are mostly negative and few still recommend this place. A little sad for a place with so much history sad

I went with my mom and sister once and the food was indeed disappointing.
Oil for them was like free-flow and the i can only imagine the cook to be an amateur, or one who burnt his taste buds away while learning how to cook.

The chicken had more bones than meat and it was like lucky draw trying to get those pieces with full meat in it. I could only taste a wee bit of flavour from the chicken and was turned off by the oil that was dripping away like a spoilt tap.

The vegetable was.. edible. Although, again, drenched in oil. You can see the puddle of oil where we tipped the plate to let the oil flown down. Otherwise, it'll be like drinking oil again.

The fried rice was actually OK. Maybe after the disappointing chicken and vege, i've already lowered my expectations. The portion was just nice for the 3 of us as we aren't big rice eaters (luckily.)

I hope they do something about the food and not tarnish the name further; really miss the taste of good zi bao ji. sad

OVERPRICED! Cry Jan 08, 2013

OMG, Outrageously overpriced! shocked For $6 in a hawker centre, i don't think the fish and chips is worth it. Plus, it wasn't that amazing too. There was too much batter which drowned the fish. It felt like there was more flour than the fish itself.
A few of the fries were also a little soggy, felt like there mix a few recently fried one with some older batch.
The coleslaw was a little too sour for my liking.
Garlic bread also felt like it was left out in the open for a little too slow. The sides wasn't crispy ):
I guess the beans were the only acceptable item out of everything on the plate seeing that they can't go wrong with canned beans.

I didn't like that i had to go over to the store to pick it up myself when they had like 3 people in the store (and they didn't need so many) who were practically just standing around doing nothing and one of them had to do everything.

I will not recommend this store as i think the food prices are well too exorbitant and the fish and chips aren't nice at all.

I also noticed that most of their food prices isn't hawker-friendly? They had this spaghetti dish that went up to $11?!?! shockedshockedshockedUnbelievable. I wonder who is willing to fork out that much.. hmm. maybe that dish isn't that bad? They also sell chicken wings which seem to be more popular than the other items on the menu. Perhaps, those would be better than the fish and chips!

i love porridge! Cry Jan 08, 2013

-.-

-.-

The store sells a variety of porridge but it's main selling items are noodle-based (eg. ban main, laksa, etc.). I didn't feel that hungry so i tried the peanut porridge, it was the value meal for ntuc union cardholders.
Pretty normal porridge, a little watery but it had a generous serving of peanuts (seeing as how the can of peanut is so cheap! if they give really little, a bit stingy huh!). There's also a few you tiao pieces in it and topped with spring onion. It wasn't extremely crunchy as i think it has been exposed for quite sometime. Since i was lazy to chew (haha, porridge = sick person food!) and wanted to just swallow every spoonful of porridge without chewing, i didn't really had any complains about the blandness of the porridge.

So-so dish, won't really recommend it unless you're not up for the more flavoured food in foodfare. I would recommend the brown rice porridge from the opposite store instead.
