Hor fun OK Jun 30, 2013
Categories : Seafood | Zi Char

I took away this 三捞河粉 (San Lao Hor Fun) the other day when I went home from a friend's place.
I think the food was so-so only.

三捞河粉's bean sprouts are usually plucked out painstakingly by the stall owners but this time it was not. However, I must say that it the portion was still quite generous.

There were only a few pieces of fish inside. I guess the owners wanted to cut cost by sprinkling more bean sprouts in place of fish. For $9 - medium size, the amount of hor fun was quite a lot (more than the main ingredients) which I did not prefer. The dish was quite wet, but not that wet which makes you feel like you were drinking soup.

I also preferred my spring onion to be chopped more finely instead of the fat thick ones given by the chefs.

2 out of 5 stars given for this dish. I felt that there were more misses than hits /:

2nd time here OK Jan 25, 2013   (Related Review)

I realize that business at this stall is very good. There always seem to have a queue of 4-5 people every time i'm there. People in choa chu kang are very health conscious!
lol

Ordered 6 pieces - $2.70 (O.P $3, 30cents discount for ntuc card holders)
Chose ladyfingers, cabbage, crabmeat, fried tofu (they dont have the non-fried ones), fish cake and tau pok.

Soup was light and delicious as usual. Less favourful, maybe because of the items i chose. The fried tofu was a little over-fried and the skin was difficult to chew off. Cabbage was cooked nicely, the soft kind that i like. Ladyfingers were a bit old, and difficult to chew. The rest of the items were okay.

Recommended Dish(es):  cabbage

Watercress Soup OK Jan 25, 2013

Soup of the day: Watercress Soup

I think the soup of the day is actually soup of the everyday as it seems to be there every time i visit Foodfare. They might have forgotten to add it into the menu and didn't want to reprint it.

Soup was pretty good. Very flavourful. And it was very hot when they served it, since it seems to be brewing away constantly. They were generous amount of the peanut-looking thing and watercress and also a few pieces of pork ribs.

As it was chinese new year period, they will give hongbao packs for every $3.50 (can't remember) spent!
Delicious! (:

Soy Sweet! OK Jan 25, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

Walked around this huge hawker centre around noon time and it was so deserted! ): I wonder where everyone went!
Chanced upon this vegetarian soya bean stall and decided to try it!

I'm not sure why they classify themselves as vegetarian but I felt that the soybean curd was no different from other bean curd. Except that this was really really extremely sweet! Theirs is the pudding form (like many other soybean curd that was sucked into this frenzy). Personally, i prefer the traditional ones. But this one kind of melts in my mouth.

Drink was pretty much the same taste since it's made from the same thing. It wasn't as sweet as the bean curd though (luckily.)

Promotion item OK Jan 11, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Food Court | Japanese BBQ/Teppanyaki

Promotion item: Salmon and chicken set. (comes with rice and soup) - $5-6

Generous serving of bean-sprouts and chicken. The salmon was sadly a pretty thin slice. This dish is cooked on the spot and you can see the chef making it behind the glass panal while you wait for your food to be cooked.
Beansprouts were a little raw, chicken was quite nice. I like the gravy that accompanies it. Taste delightfully sweet. The salmon was alright, just didn't like that it was such a small piece.
The soup they serve is miso soup, a bit too salty and weird tasting. Ate the seaweed and tofu only.
They gave quite a big bowl of rice, probably to compensate for the thin slice of fish. LOL.
