Food for the Sick Soul Smile Jan 11, 2013

Categories : Café

I was under the weather the other day and decided to walk over to the nearest source of food from my house - wang cafe.
I saw their menu before and was intrigued by the chicken macaroni as i always thought that this place was more well-known for their toast, coffee, tea and some local favourites (laksa, etc.), but macaroni had a western feel for me.

Ordered the chicken macaroni to go as i didn't want to spread my germs around the eatery.
Service was quite fast but i felt that the staff were more like in their own world, chatting away so loudly and didn't even bother serving me properly. sad

Chicken macaroni soup - $3.90
Macaroni was soft and easily broken down, perfect for someone who is sick and doesn't feel like moving a.k.a me. There were some bean-sprouts inside, felt it was juicy, although it was thin and long. Chicken was also very soft and tender. I think this dish is quite appropriate for the sick as the soup isn't laden with oil but was still palatable. I would like to add that there were quite a lot of bean sprouts and green garnishes; v. healthy!

Recommended for those who want a simple meal (and the sick - comfort food!) smile

Seafood Kway Teow

Caution: Image may not be representative of true product.
HAHA! My mom made the prawns into a heart shape! how cute!! tongue
This dish is cooked in a hot stove and is served together with it, keeping the dish hot.
The kway teow is cut into thin slices and quickly goes down your throat as it is very smooth.
Prawns was okay, a hassle to peel as usual and was fresh enough.
It has squid and fish in it too. The squid was a little rubbery but still edible. Fish was not as fishy this time round.
The gravy is quite delicious too when taken together with the kway teow.

I like this dish better than the previous one i ate!

Cool Curry Smile Jan 11, 2013

Oops, ate halfway before i realized i forgot to take a snapshot! tongue

Fu Xiang is the first stall you'll see once you come up the escalator which leads directly to food junction. There's always a queue at the stall due to their aromatic curry smell. Once you reach that floor, the curry smell will hit you before you know it, hence the long queue!
They serve it pretty fast and there's a few to choose from. But the one that is the most popular is the curry chicken rice set (shown above)
Curry was extremely thick so i guess they used a very large amount of coconut milk in it. (TIME TO HIT THE GYM!). It taste really good when mixed together with the rice. The chicken was very soft and tender; i was given a drumstick and 2 other pieces of meat. There's also 1 or 2 pieces of potato in it. The chicken will be covered in the thick coating of curry gravy, making it really delicious.
The soup which was served with it felt a little bland to me and it was cold after awhile, didn't really enjoy it.

I love this dish! But I think we should only eat it once it awhile so that our cholesterol level doesn't go shooting through the roof!
There are other less fattening items on the menu such as the mushroom chicken rice set, will try it next time!

Promotion item OK Jan 11, 2013

Promotion item: Salmon and chicken set. (comes with rice and soup) - $5-6

Generous serving of bean-sprouts and chicken. The salmon was sadly a pretty thin slice. This dish is cooked on the spot and you can see the chef making it behind the glass panal while you wait for your food to be cooked.
Beansprouts were a little raw, chicken was quite nice. I like the gravy that accompanies it. Taste delightfully sweet. The salmon was alright, just didn't like that it was such a small piece.
The soup they serve is miso soup, a bit too salty and weird tasting. Ate the seaweed and tofu only.
They gave quite a big bowl of rice, probably to compensate for the thin slice of fish. LOL.

Fishy Wishy Cry Jan 11, 2013

Black Bean with Fish - $5-6? I can't remember how much it cost. I think it wasn't that nice.
The set comes with rice and a side of cabbages.
I didn't see any black beans in the fish gravy so, it might be just a paste or something. Fish was a little fishy. They veggies (capsicum and carrots) were drowning the fish so there's more veggies than fish. Although I love veggies, i think for the price of this dish, i rather have more fish than veggies. Rice was a little dry and not the puffy kind. I don't like ): I think the cabbage is the chinese cabbage? Not too sure. They use those that can be kind of eaten raw, so there's a raw taste to it.

Overall, I didn't really like it sad
