Sirloin steakk! OK Jul 29, 2013   (Related Review)

After my successful tasting of the previous visit. I dragged another friend to accompany me to try the sirloin steak which i was eyeing the previous visit! HEHE! He didn't regret one bit after trying it! lol

So I orderd the sirloin steak this time round (400G), which I obviously couldn't finish! Lucky I had a guy to help me finish my food, otherwise it'll be such a waste! The 50% discount when you dine with a friend was still on when I went back! PHEW. (if I'm not wrong, they have different promotions on different day! So you might want to check with the restaurant before heading down)

The steak was not as good, I asked for medium rare but it almost came out close to raw and I could see the reddish blood parts. The chef must've been too anxious! HAHA! So I asked the waiter to bring it back to cook it a little more and he was very apologetic about it.
It came back almost well-done this time round! OH MY. But some parts was still a little medium rare. I think the chef has to go for steak cooking classes again! By now, I really preferred the salmon more. My side dishes this time round were baked beans, wedges and garden salad. The baked beans were a little different from the canned ones, although it was most probably canned too but the sauce tasted a little better? and the beans felt bigger. Wedges was a little dry and the garden salad was the same.

I was more disappointed this time round and I think i'll stick to the salmon the next time! Still a very nice place to eat nonetheless!

($35.50 before discount)

Chanced upon this rustic little eatery whilst deciding on what to have for lunch the other day. I was attracted by the many promotions that seem to scream out on the little chalkboard that they have standing at the door.

There was a 1-for-1 lunch promotion going on if you dine with a friend! *SQUEALS* HOW GOOD CAN THINGS GET!

Popped into the place and after looking through the menu, the dishes were all highly priced. So glad for the promotion!

I ordered the 200G salmon which came with 2 side dishes. I picked the garden salad and carrots in cream sauce. The extra cup was the gravy for the salmon.

I absolutely loved this dish! The salmon were bursting with flavour with the sauce and it was a huge chuck of meat. The carrots in the cream sauce was also really special! I'm not too sure what they used in the cream sauce but it was really good! Garden salad was alright, couldn't really taste the dressing as i was more interested in my salmon and carrots. OOPS! Nearly forget the mashed potato! I liked that although it was a little mashy, i could still taste some bits of potato in it! haha! I think this is really worth the price even though it's a little pricey. With the 1 for 1 deal, it makes it even cheaper! The normal price for the salmon was $19.00. My friend chose a dish with a slightly cheaper price and so our total bill each only amounted to roughly $12? For the chill ambience of the place and the thick slab of meat they gave, I think this place is really worth a visit!

Matcha Sundae! Smile Jul 29, 2013

Everytime i enter this particular MOF outlet, I always feel like I've been teleported to another realm. One where many diners are peacefully eating with the occasional loud Japanese greeting at the door.

I ordered a Matcha Sundae as I was craving for some ice-cream and I saw that this was a member's dessert. I didn't get any discount as I didn't order a set meal.

Anyhow, the Matcha sundae! ($6.80)

It comes with a big fat chuck of matcha ice cream which sits on top of some sweet sauce, jelly and cereal at the bottom and on top of this ice cream, there was another vanilla soft-serve. WOW WOW! Two ice-creams in one dessert! It also came with fruits (Watermelon and cherry), a waffle There was also a small separate holder to add more matcha sauce/sweet sauce, i couldn't tell what it was.
I like that i can clearly taste the matcha flavour and eating fruits with ice cream is quite nice! Also, the cereal and jelly at the bottom was really good. I felt it was a little like ice kachang but the Japanese version! haha!

I've always loved my food to have a variety of ingredients so that I don't get too tired after eating the first few months. I discovered this hiyashi chuka which is basically cold noodles served with lots of different toppings at sakae sushi (just next door to this branch of MOF!)
When I saw it after flipping through this thick MOF menu booklet, I spotted the hiyashi chuka and immediately ordered it!

The service here is fast at times and slow at other, they were also many new staff around as most of them were wearing their own black t-shirt which clearly differentiates them form the more senior waiters.
My food came pretty promptly after I ordered.
This was different from what I expected as the one at sakae sushi had carrots and bean-curd skin, while it was 'replaced' with chicken here. cost-wise, I guess chicken would be more worth it? However, presentation wise, I believe sakae sushi wins in this aspect as their ingredients were all cut into thin strips and laid out nicely. It was more of clumps of food at MOF.
It tasted pretty good and I could see the soup at the bottom, compared to sakae sushi which was less wet. The ramen was springy and easy to bite.
There were also tamago, cucumber, crabmeat and some seaweed garnishes.

To compare the two wouldn't really be fair as they used different ingredients, but I think I prefer the one at MOF as it is less dry and the ingredients seem more worth it! (Less jap-feel but perhaps catered more to the singaporean tastebuds)

Creativity Smile Jul 28, 2013

New menu from ichiban sushi! It's called 'creative sushi' and it's only valid from 2 july to 31 july. Hurry go on down and grab some if it looks enticing to you!

Sushi that I chose:

Inari Treasure Chest: $4.20
This is a black peppered smoked duck with mayonnaise and in sweet beancurd skin. I love the duck very much as it has a delectable taste. I can't really describe it but the duck was chewy and a little tofu-like? really soft and silky. haha! Not too bad.

Mermaid Tail: $4.20
I felt that this wasn't really 'creative' as it was just tempura prawn wrapped in seaweed with some chilli flakes and a blop of mayonnaise to make it prettier. Nothing fancy about it. You can give it a miss unless you're a tempura lover and like tempura prawns a lot.

Sea Volcano: $4.20
This little sushi had the most ingredient out of the 3 albeit its tiny size. It has avocado, scallop, salmon roe some green soft vegetable in it and garnished with parsley and cod roe. I like the burst of different flavours in my mouth and was pleasantly surprised by the successful mix of ingredients.

Out of these 3, I especially liked the Inari Treasure Chest the most! I also like the names they came up with for the different sushi, feels like a sea-themed sushi! Creative!
