Went to dine with my friend at this eatery as she wanted to try this ramen place after trying the other ramen places in this area.
Both of us ordered the Ladies' Set meal ($10.20++) which comes with a smaller bowl of ramen, 1 set dish and a drink (you can refer to their facebook page for the full menu)

As a fan of sesame seed, I anticipated this dish to be really good as sesame seed with anything always tastes nice! The broth of the soup is boil with pork bones, simmered over a few hours and you can distinctively taste the pork taste in the soup.
There were some garnishes which tastes like onion and I didn't really like it.
The noodles were quite springy and I feel that the portion size was just right for a small eat like me! I do like that like sprinkle a lot of black sesame seeds into the bowl but I couldn't really taste it.
Other than bamboo shoots and bean-sprouts, there was also 1 slab of pork (San Chen Rou) in the middle of it. I didn't really like eating that so I gave it to my friend who says that it's mediocre.

My friend claims that the other restaurants serve better ramen but I like the ambience of this place. A cozy eatery with the waiters being Japanese and speaking with a Japanese accent. It felt like I crawled into a mini Japan.

P.S. The reddish oragney lights in the restaurant made my photo turn out as so! The soup is NOT spicy at all.

2nd round of creativity Smile Jul 30, 2013

On a mission to try all the creative sushi available before the end of the month!

Aquamarine: $4.20
This includes the salmon belly wrapped with egg tamago, asparagus and shrimp roe. The sushi tastes quite normal, nothing very creative about it. It is a bit like the salmon handroll except this one has asparagus in it.
You can skip this if you don't have extra stomach space.

Jewel Box: $4.20
There's premium BBQ eel, cheese, potato flakes and some fish roe with sesame seeds on top. I like the potato flakes on this sushi! It's really interesting, but I do think that they have a similar sushi called Golden Catch (dory fish instead of BBQ eel)

(They gave us different plates as they said they ran out of the normal polka dot plates they had to give, but the presentation is still there so no worries!)

Once this promotion ends, I believe that I would've found alternatives for these 2 sushis if i ever need to try them again. Then again, I do hope that they put this on the usual menu so that we are able to eat them as and when we like to!

P.S. Doing this review made me realize how costly these sushis are! If i top up about $5-6 more, I could get a full set meal! Perhaps these sushi should be eaten once in awhile only.

Pork and Sushi! OK Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

The queue here at vivocity is so much longer than the one at JEM! If you waited really long at JEM, be prepared to queue an even longer time here!
After my successful dine at JEM the other time, my friend recommended me to try the branch at vivocity! SO here I go!

I think we were supposed to order the yakitori sticks but we decided against it as we felt that it's a little more pricey that we hope it would be. One stick of pork meat could cost about $2.40, I think it's better if I'm eating the Don(s).

We ordered the Buta Don ($14.80) - Grilled Pork Rice Bowl

I wasn't really a fan of Pork in the first place but I really like the sauce for this! I think this is quite worth it as the meat is soft and the serving is quite generous! I also like to eat the pickle with the pork, quite a nice combi!

We also ordered the California Temaki (hand roll)($3.00)

The price is a tad higher than other Japanese place that I've eaten at. A great disappointment as the seaweed is already soggy when they served it! ): But I like that the filling inside goes all the way down and isn't like what you see at the top is what you get.

If you like pork, I think you will love the Buta Don, but skip the california temaki as I don't think it's worth it.
Also, make a reservation so that you don't have to wait too long!

Spending per head: Approximately $18

VEGE LOVE tongue

NOM NOM NOM! This is the Sansei Soba ($12.80), translated to Buckwheat Noodles with Mountain Vegetables. I'm not too sure what the mountain vegetables' names are but I could identify the spinach and spring onions! There was another vegetable, it was a little.. sour? I didn't return know what's that. But if you drink the soup and eat the vege together, it tastes pretty good! I also love the pretty Japanese fishcake, might be some "beautiful is good" effect but i LOve the fishcake! The buckwheat noodle is really soft and can be bitten off very easily. If you love vegetables, I think you'll definitely like this dish!

Spending per head: Approximately $14

Categories : Frozen Yogurt

Nutella and original flavour. I felt that the yogurt tasted more like ice cream. The nutella flavour is a bit too sweet for me and it tastes more like chocolate to me than nutella (Hazelnut chocolate). The original yogurt doesn't taste that good to me either.
If i must choose between other brands of yogurt, I would go for those as I don't really like the concept of this weigh and pay kind of system, I won't know if they're cheating me or not. Plus, the girls manning the store are not friendly at all. I asked for the watsons discount but I didn't have my card with me and she said I can't be entitled to it. Then later, she told me that she didn't have 5 cents change and rounded off my amount... That's quite unfair to me. Am I supposed to get 1 more pump of yogurt like that?

The girls should go for some training and I think apart from the cute branding, there's nothing too good about this yogurt.
