Despite the lower traffic (relative) to other parts of Raffles Place and TanjongPagar, business at Basil Leaf Cafe doesn't show signs of slowing down. The café was packed with patrons, had a queue at the counter, nonetheless we managed to settle down rather quickly.
Menu is rather extensive. They have Burgers, Pasta, Salads, Sandwiches and Mains such as beef and salmon steaks. A top up of $3.5 entitles you a set meal (soup + Iced Lemon Tea). How about a small array of dessert to complete your meal, but just be wary of the ever ready Z monster when you head back to your desk.
I ordered the Roasted Ribeye ($11.90) while Kaleb got himself the Crabmeat Bisque ($15.90). Golden brown toasted bread packed with tiny sliced roasted ribeye and accompanied with potato chips. A decent piece of sandwich that's fit for all meals throughout the day. The crab meat bisque was smooth and light in flavour. Pasta was al dente too! They even gave a generous roll of crab meat to give that addition boost in flavour.
Looking for a spacious, relaxing and comfortable venue for lunch? Basil Leaf Cafe is certainly an option.

Rumor has it that there is a strong rivalry between Hua Kee and Cho Kee. Even names are in contention. Maybe it's a siblings rivalry?
Both served fresh and springy noodles. However, Cho Kee had that extra Q. While it's noodle won my vote, but they can step up on their char siew a bit more. Perhaps, giving it a little fat will do the job.
I believe Cho Kee is heading toward the healthier choice route, thus could explain the "dryness" of the char siew.
As for Wanton and Dumplings, I both were plumpy and generous in portion. Thumbs up!
Give their Special selection of noodles a try. They have the Spinach, Beetroot, Carrot, Seaweed and Multi-grain!

Operating hours at First Thai is relatively short, and is packed with people most of the time! No reservation allowed, so come early if you want to avoid queuing.
Basil Chicken - Spicy, yet flavorful!
Green Curry - Very rich and creamy. Heavy with coconut base...a little less generous would had been perfect for me.
Panda Chicken - Fragrant and chunky, couldn't ask for more!
Phad Thai - One of the better ones around Singapore. Semi-wet and gooey (that's how I describe and prefer), balanced on the sweetness and generous with their garnishing.
Sea Bass in Thai Sauce - Some protein for our muscles! Very delicious and appetizing gravy/soup and the fish was fresh!
Overall, First Thai was priced a little above average but with good portions and taste. I guess that even things out.

The name of the eatery may suggest that they are all about chicken wings. While that's the half truth, Wing Zone actually takes pride in their 100% fresh chicken for preparation as well as their large array of flavours to tickle your taste butts! (check out the post to win vouchers!)
Their sauces come in 4 categories. Traditional (vinegar based), Sweet with heat, Sweet and Dry Rub. Among these flavours, I cast my votes for Mango Fire, Nuclear Habanero and Smokin Q! Having said that, the rest weren't bad either.
Mango Fire - Initial taste of mango flavour was evident while the spiciness crept in as an after taste. Even though with 3 peppers, but it wasn't that bad. Definitely suitable for kids!
Smokin Q - Classic smokey BBQ flavour coupled with a tinge of spiciness for some kick.
Nuclear Habanero - Brace yourself and standby your ice water! Rated with 4 peppers, your lips will burn, tears and mucus will flow! Love the vinegar flavour that follows after the heat. Pretty much a love and hate relationship here!
Gotta commend on getting the boneless chicken (breast meat) right on point for tenderness and juice. Portion per piece was generous too. No extra batter to make up the volume.
Wing Zone is Halal certified too! This is definitely the place for chicken (real) lovers as preparation of your meal is only done when your order is processed. Fried with chilled (not frozen) meat, so freshness guaranteed.

More than just a Mexican halal eatery, Afterwhit Cafe enjoys music where local bands are invited to perform during dinner hours. Check out the intricate wall art too, simply brilliant!
Lunch special starting from $10 is available between 12-3pm and each set comes with a choice of Tacos or Burritos paired with either specialty coffee or fruit juices.
Taking pride in their coffee, Afterwhit uses beans from Dutch Colony Coffee Co. similar to their parent brunch at Working Title Cafe. However, I am disappointed with the outcome.
Here's the Tacos de Carne Asada (Roast Beef) with nachos and dip. Stole a bite of the Taco which was refreshing and juicy with all that sauces, but only had traces of beef slices. Would need a second helping if I ordered this.
I had Carne Picante (Roast Beef) Burrito! It was chunky and filling, but mainly due to rice with traces of sliced beef. Compared to the one I had at Muchachos, the latter has the upper hand in terms of taste and texture.
Want a taste of Mexico, Afterwit is probably a place to visit...or maybe not? Overall, this is a great place to check out if you are looking for a peaceful place to work and catch up with friends. Nearest MRT will be either Lavender or Bugis Station.
