The moment that we've been waiting for is here, a hipster cafe in Kallang Wave Mall! Car-Rousel Cafe, not to be mistaken with Carousel Buffet, is a cafe heavily themed with vintage cars serving home baked, specialty coffee, DIY van-wiches (sandwiches) and salads. Great word play by the way!
I ordered the Roasted Chicken van-wich ($8.9) that came along with fresh vegetables such as cucumber and tomatoes, choice of dressing and wrapped with Purple Berry bread. Very much similar to Subway sandwich bar. Each van-wich comes with a small serving baked potato and pumpkin.
I think I will call it a Salad Van-wich instead. WHERE ARE MY CHICKEN?! Gosh, 4-5 pathetic and 'painstakingly' sliced chicken breast that were no thicker than my index finger when put together! Other than that, the bread was thankfully fluffy and edible.
Next, the baked baby potatoes could break some dentures or injure a child when thrown at high speed. I turned it away, they tossed it back into the microwave for 1 minute but made no difference. Am I being mean and ignorant or want?
Completing my meal with a latte ($5) which had traces of flavours from Guatemala and Ethiopia beans. When enquired about it's origin, this was my reply: "The beans we brew with contain Guatemala and Arabica".
So there you have it, transcend yourself back to the 1970s at Car-Rousel Cafe; a cozy spot to chill in Kallang Wave Mall after your sporting activities!

With the recent craze of fried chicken served with assorted seasoning in Singapore, Arnold's Fried Chicken remains unwavered and continues to serve traditionally battered and fried chicken. Arnold's Fried Chicken is one of the pioneer Halal eateries with more than 25 years of experience! To date, they franchised 2 outlets (Yishun and Hougang) with Paya Lebar's (in City Plaza) as its main branch.
Arnold's Fried Chicken offers Combo Meal (2, 3 & 5 pax), Ala Carte (Fish & Chips as an outlier) and Sides (classic Mashed Potato and Coleslaw).
Arnold's is the bomb! It is clearly better than KFC! I'm not particular about KFC's 11 spices secret recipe as Arnold's wasn't too shabby either. However, Arnold's crispy skin are simply out of the world 'light', 'crisp' and melts instantaneously liken eating shaved ice dessert, except that it's warm.
Tender, flavourful and juicy, period. Truly Singapore's pride!

The first of its kind in Singapore, The Cajun Kings serves boiled seafood drowned with mouth-watering flavors of Louisiana and provides a unique dining experience. Get ready to feast with your bare hands in this rustic and laid back eatery as this is the real deal when it comes to "Finger licking good"!
I ordered the Seafood combo ($75) that came with 500g of white Prawn, 250g of clams or mussels, 6 sausages, 1 corn on the cob and selected the sweet potato fries. The sauce that seemed fitting for this seafood platter would be the King's Mix and we went for the spicy level (choice of mild, spicy and extra spicy)!
The King's Mix was with infused with garlic butter, lemon pepper and Cajun spices, indeed a league of its own! For someone (myself) who abstains from most shellfish due to its after taste, but the sauce made whole lot of difference!
Apart from the Seafood, we ordered this: Frog Legs! I know what you are thinking, but it's not chicken wings but legitimate gigantic Butter Fried Frog Legs!
Overall, this messy experience is pretty refreshing from the usual fine-dining decorum. Although it did burn a hole in our pockets, but definitely worth the trip and an option future special celebrations!

Tucked along Bali Lane, Stateland is one café that's not to miss if you are around Bugis. Started by a group of young entrepreneurs about 2 years ago, Stateland Cafe has come a long way and proven itself as a worthy competitor among the café scene in that district. This vintage industrial themed café has an extensive yet concise menu that serves mains (pasta and All Day Breakfast), dessert (waffles and toast) and beverages.

I ordered the S'more Waffles which had chocolate ice cream and toasted marshmallows on the dark chocolate infused waffle ($14.9). To add-on the chocolatey craze, dark chocolate dark was drizzled for final touches. Basically, whatever that can be paired or filled with chocolate wasn't spared in this case.
Despite of the overload of chocolate, it surprisingly wasn't jelak at all. The only fuss that I had over this waffle was its lack of crisp. It was soft and had a bit of fluff.
Generally, given the hype about Stateland Cafe, I wasn't that impressed after my visit. However, I wouldn't mind heading down again to try other flavoured waffles and their toast too! By the way, this café opens till mid night, so it's a perfect spot to chill after a long day at work!

Tucked at the corner of Empress Road Market & Food Centre and what attracted me was the tray of cooked plump wantons! On the other hand, having an extensive menu (for a noodle stall) implies that they are jack of all trades but master of none. Nevertheless, I gave it a shot!
Noodles were springy and al dente. Such is life's simple pleasure. Char siew was tender, with hint of sweetness and charred fragrance, however, thicker slices wouldn't harm. Completing this wonderful plate of delicacy was the chunky wanton!
During my next visit, I will be trying out their dumpling noodles and perhaps Ipoh Hor Fun as well!
