Food Rebel is an eat clean cafe in the Business District Area offering organic and healthy eating food at Stanley Road.
Overview

Interior is fairly simple. No theme spotted, only homogenously brown coloured furniture throughout the cafe. Environment is nothing but casual and relax.

Mondays are Meat Free Monday. So you won’t expect to find meat on any of the sandwiches and salad or even top up. Tuesday Through To Thursday (TTT) Menu, hooray, I start to see meat at least on its Top It Up section. As such, it has similar offering as the Meat Free Monday. I tried the Flavoursome Scarlet Quinoa. This was found on both the Meat Free Monday and Tuesday Through To Thursday menu. As the name suggested, the quinoa is scarlet coloured and indeed flavoursome with some herb and sourish. It was appetising. As I needed some meat, I Top It Up with Oven Baked Chicken and my favourite Baked Pumpkin. It was a delish and wholesome meal.

Finally, last day of the work week, Food Rebel thinks it is time for some indulgence with Feed Me Up Friday. On this day, there are 2 Hot Friday Special with meat!! I tried the Towering Thomas comprises of a sesame bun, a chicken patty with chop pasley and spring onion which enhanced the flavours, a sunny side up. There are 2 other, in my opinion, secret weapon in this burger making it so fabulous. The salsa sauce on top of the chicken patty and the pumpkin mash on the bottom of the bun. The sourish from the salsa and the sweet from the pumpkin seriously helps to flavour-up the chicken patty. It is really a pity that one could only get the Towering Thomas on only Friday. I have to endure any craving till Friday! Oh no!

Over at Food Rebel, the cafe offered Organic Green and Functional Teas, Tripod Coffe, Power Smoothies and Boosters. I tried the Yellow Fellow Power Smoothies ($9), a concoction of Coconut, pineapple and dragon fruit. I admit that the colour of the drink is disgusting but lucky, it tasted so much better than the look. It is a sweet and sourish drink which I could savour the pineapple and dragon fruit flavour. It was the amazing coconut that augmented the taste of the drink.

I ordered a Flat White ($6) as there isn’t Cappuccino in the cafe. I was a little disappointed. I didn’t appreciate the Flat White as the coffee aroma was almost nil, instead, I kept tasting coconut oil. I am wondering if they have given me theBulletproof ($6.50) instead of Flat White.

I visited Food Rebel twice; once takeaway and the other dine-in.

Fillings or Coated Churros OK Feb 10, 2016

Full reviews on http://www.nahmj.com/2016/01/14/churro-101-singapore-%EC%B8%84%EB%9F%AC%EC%8A%A4-bugis/
Churro 101 doesn’t operate out of a kiosk, instead it provided limited seats. The decoration was with a little European touch. It felt very much like a living room cum dinning room kind of setting.

Getting a seats at the dining area wasn’t easy. It seems like some customers were in the wait to find a seat for quite some time. It is better off for takeaway which I did.
At Churro 101, there were so called 3 types of Churros. The so called Real Spanish Churros with either Plan, Sugar or Cinnamon. The second type is the Filled Churros with Chocolate, Milk Custard or Cream Cheese as fillings in the churros. And lastly the Dark Chocolate Coated Churros.
Cream Cheese Filled Churros

Cream Cheese Filled Churros

I ordered a Cream Cheese Filled Churro and a Dark Chocolate Almond Churro. I forego the Real Spanish Churros since the churros are the same.
Dark Chocolate Almond Churros

Dark Chocolate Almond Churros

The churro texture was rather soft and a little more than moist which I will describe it as wet batter. It wasn’t to the extend soggy though. It lacks of the chewy texture. And overall, I find it a little too sweet for the Cream Cheese filler. I like the dark chocolate coated since it was chocolaty.

Whimsical Feel and Delish Waffle  OK Feb 10, 2016

Categories : English | Café

http://www.nahmj.com/2016/02/03/oh-my-tian-by-the-hatter-street-cafe-boon-keng-singapore/

Oh My Tian is yet another cafe by an established, well known cafe. It is by the team behind The Hatter Street Cafe. It is conveniently located next to an Exit of Boon Keng MRT station.
When I was at the door step of Oh My Tian, the first ornament I notice was the cheena (means Chinese) lion head door knob. As I entered, I went Oh My Tian!! Why from such a historical Chinese looking to a magical and fairy tale moment? You will spot the merry-go-round like fixture and many victorian steampunk painting that are in fantasy mood and feel. Stepping into a time machine through the door, it seems like it was.

There are quite a number of Mains or rather Brunch items at the cafe. I tried the Donut Burger in Beef. A savoury item with a hint of sweetness since it uses donut as the bun. I am sure some may not have an affinity for it. I am apprehensive to how the masses would agree on the dish. My guess is 50/50 based on my family preferences. I may be wrong.

Waffle comes with a scoop of ice cream we have an additional Scoop of Ice Cream and maple syrup. Our choice ice cream were the Gula Melaka and Strawberry Cheesecake. We enjoyed the dessert.

The Cappuccino I had seems like a Dark Roast, full body, very low acidity, nutty and highly spiced.

I thought Iced Matcha Latte was more than decent. There was a good balance and scent of matcha was present. But I am sure, some may find it a little too light.
Waffle at Oh My Tian is certainly as good as Hatter Street. For the food, interesting since Oh My Tian does it with a twist. But whether would masses give a thumb up, I suppose, it is really down to personally preference that would influence decision. It is contestable.

With Mixed Feeling OK Feb 05, 2016

Full review is up at http://www.nahmj.com/2015/12/14/coffee-academics-singapore-scotts-squre-orchard/

The Coffee Academics from Hong Kong has finally opened an outlet in Singapore. All its cafe seems to have a little different style, including The Coffee Academics Singapore.
Coffee Making Counter

Coffee Making Counter

Interestingly, the interior design of The Coffee Academics Singapore seems to be made up of different theme. At the far right of the cafe was a zen looking square table with tatami-like on the seats. While on its left was a corner filled with bar-like tables. Somehow, the different design components were in harmony.
Academics Breakfast

Academics Breakfast

First, we went for the Academics Breakfast. Instead of bacon, ham was dished out instead. The first item that has an ingredient differ from the menu. It was pointed out by one of our diners. I am usually not meticulous with such details.
Scrambled Eggs With Crayfish

Scrambled Eggs With Crayfish

We thought the Scrambled Eggs With Crayfish was a special dish which was unseen on another menu so far. When presented, we were surprised to see caviar.
Academics Pancake Tower

Academics Pancake Tower

Academics Pancake Tower was the second dish that had look very different from the menu picture and its description. My 2 other diners were disappointed by first and this experience has made it worse. I thought it was fairly well executed, fluffy and lightly sweetened. We chose the Espresso Ice Cream which went well with the dish.
Latte and a Cappuccino

Latte and a Cappuccino

Lastly, the cuppa. We ordered a Latte and a Cappuccino. I thought it was as good as the ones served at Hong Kong. A medium acidity, full body with hint of dark berries undertone.
The service was under par. And it was slow too. It seems like they are taking forever to get the food ready and serve. We weren’t informed of the substitute of the ingredients in the dishes and so on. In addition, my 2 dinning partners felt the pricing was a little too steep for the quality. Thought tastewise, we thought it was all right. Personally, I am more concern of the service.

Homely Japanese Meal At A Premium Smile Feb 01, 2016

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Full review on http://www.nahmj.com/2016/01/30/suju-japanese-restaurant-mandarin-gallery-orchard-singapore/

Strangely, Suju Japanese Restaurant seems to be neglected by most foodies (both bloggers and non-bloggers). Even my friend, one of the diners at our dinner date have visited the rest of the restaurants at Mandarin Gallery except Suju.
Interior of Right Wing

Interior of Right Wing

We started off with Sashimi Specialty of The Chef (Assorted Sashimi), priced at $36 per person. We ordered for 2 pax hence the plate of sashimi resulted in a damage of $72. We understood why it is so expensive the moment it landed in our mouth. We savour the sweetness and freshness of the sea with each piece of the sashimi.

The Nasu Dengaku, a cold appetiser, was the next served to our table. Deep fried eggplant with Suju Miso top with sauce was a simple but pleasant dish. One could savour the natural sweetness of the eggplant and the miso sauce added tincture of savoury in it. Somehow, like a salad.

Very quickly, all our Mains were served at the same time. First we have the Tori Momo Kurozu Itame. I enjoyed this dish more than the beef we ordered. Since it was sourish, it whetted the appetite.

Beef Cheek Miso was stewed and simmered in red wine and the meat absorbed the red wine fragrance completely. It was tender and melt in the mouth. The 3 diners at Suju enjoys rich food but most of us still feel that this was a little too rich for our preferences.

Shake Chazuke and Mentaiko Chazuke were comforting. We like it. Rice in soup, who could resist such a homely dish?

Before the end of the meal, we ordered 2 out of the 3 desserts.
Catarana

Catarana

Catarana is an Iced pudding in roasted green tea flavour. Among the 2, this is a hit with me. Slightly sweetish with tea fragrance. This is what I enjoyed.
Annin Tofu

Annin Tofu

Annin Tofu is Suju Style almond pudding which has the typical Chinese Almond Jelly taste with a texture akin to the traditional tofu and a creaminess in it too. I am never a fan of the Chinese Almond Jelly so this isn’t my kind of dessert. But my other diner enjoyed this tremendously.

Suju Japanese Restaurant has a homely Japanese ambience. Not noisy even the section we sat were at 80% capacity.
All the 3 diners at the dinner agreed that the best part of the meal was the Assorted Sashimi. With no doubt, I would highly recommend the Sashimi Specialty of The Chef to diners who is willing to bear the high premium. Next the Chazuke and Tori Momo Kurozu Itame. End the meal with Catarana.
