First we had the Minced meat and meatball porridge. The fragrance and peppery taste of the porridge hit my taste buds. The white peppercorns from Sarawak has been fried before being made into a soup which is used for the porridge. It is then cooked in a high-pressure pot .Great tasty porridge coupled with chewy meatballs. However due to the fiery taste, the porridge is not for children. The Pork ribs porridge is less peppery ,the ribs are well marinated adn delicious.

The Ampang Yong Tau Foo consists of kangkong, bittergourd, redchilli ,bringal and fried wanton. It comes with a sambal chilli dip which they make themselves. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. The Braised Platter comes with juicy peanuts, braised pork ,tau pok, beancurd skins and beancurd puff. The Dry Bak Kut Teh chicken cubes comes with dried cuttlefish shreds. It is fried with Bak Kut Teh spices. The tender chicken pieces comes with small pieces of ladies finger.

The Pork Ribs Soup  in a pot has 3 pieces of pork ribs kept warm. Not enough soup? Ask for more.the soup is tasty but the ribs could be cooked longer for it to be softer. The Pig's organ soup is flavourful and spicy. It has pieces of pig stomach and liver.Get a bowl of rice ,you will enjoy the dish better.

The pot of Flower and fruit tea comes with a warmer. It comes with a little glass cup for you to sip if things get too peppery. The longer the flowers and fruits stay in the pot ,the tastier it is. finish everything, don't waste the tea.

The four of us went for steamboat dinner at Suky-ya (Marina Square) . The price per head is $25.90++ with a 25% discount on the total price of 4 persons. Service was quick as there were not many customers. The waiter asked us what sort of soup we wanted. He also explained which are the spicy ones. I asked him to recommend a popular soup. You have a choice of two.We had a clear soup and Miso soup.

Next he asked us for choice of meat. We took chicken, beef and pork.they are thinly sliced and laid neatly in a black opened faced box. This makes it easy to cook. There is free flow of drinks, pepsi, green tea ,7-up etc .

There are plenty choice of vegetables , mushrooms ,straw and shitake.eggs ,corn and toufu .There is a wonderful selection of sauces to go with your food.

There are apples and ice cream to finish off .

Hombre Cantina Smile Feb 09, 2015

Categories : Latin American/South American | Mexican | Bars/Lounges

Hombre Cantina("Cantina" meaning"drinking hole" in Spanish) are Tortilla chipsis situated at 53,Boat Quay is nestled among seafood restaurants.Alex ,one of the owners says that the restaurant aims to be casual and wants customers to chill out and relax here.

First to arrive are Tortilla Chips ,a popular choice, freshly made and you can dip them in Pineapple chile, fire roasted tomato or  hot salsa verde.Besides eating them plain, you can topped them with black beans ,cheese ,pico de gallo ,sour cream and fresh cilantro. The result is a delicious combination .But do not fill up just on that because there is more..

Quesadillas, folded tortilla with meat and grilled with Hombre's burnt cheese blend is clearly a favourite.More..more...Burritos, packed with mexican-styled rice, your choice of meat and romaine lettuce is one full meal by itself.Tacos come in a basket of 3 soft corn tortillas topped with cabbage and pico de gallo. There is a salad bowl you can try .

Mexican corn grilled -on-the-cob topped with spice blend ,cheese and crema,is tantalising ,full of aroma and taste.Chicken chicharrones are fried chicken skins covered with a spice blend and eaten with a dash of lime juice. There is no sign of chicken fat so it must be good to eat!

As a beginner in Mexican Food,I am impressedand glad for the introduction. .My favourites are the Nachos and the Quesadillas and I am planning my next visit with gusto!

For authentic Cantonese cuisine,my family goes to Red Star Restaurant .The dishes are all my family's favourite. The Sea cucumber cooked with Gai Choy in an earthen pot.Sometimes the sea cucumbers are not cooked to sufficient softness for my mother and she would complain they are too hard. But this time the dish has some softer ones for her.The Gai Choy is delicious with the flavouring and freshness of the seafood.Equally fresh was the mixed vegetables of french beans and vegetarian " meat".The Tou fu topped with fish and prawn meat steamed in egg white was fragrant. It is simple yet delicious. The Yam Bowl is a must have. The bowl of vegetables, cashew nuts and bite-sized chicken complemented the wonderful yam basket. The deep fried chicken is as always soft and tender. However the deep fried prawn was "bad". The prawn was wrapped in too much flour and my mother commented that it did not look like this when she had it way back. The dessert was mango with pomelo fruit. But it was watery. We had it at a stall and it was thicker and much nicer. It could have been so much better. The bill came up to $160. It was a great gathering with great food .

Dinner at YY kafei dian Smile Sep 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Bakery | Coffeeshop

YY kafei Dian has home-cooked food that reminds you of home.A simple mixed vegetable in an earthen pot served steaming hot.Fresh vegetables of at least 5-6 types made up the dish:wongbok, babycorn, french beans ,carrots and jews ears and xiao bai chai .The second

dish is seafood tofu with seasonal vegetables. The dish is fragrant with crispy beancurd. The third dish is chicken bite-sized cooked with carrots and french beans with cashew nuts thrown in.The children loved the simple dish. The fourth is unusual. It is bittergourd coated with duck yolk, flour and deep fried. The bittergourd taste is slightly hidden by the salty
duck yolk.Deep fried curry leaves are thrown in for that extra taste. The food is delicious with hot rice and as if that is not enough ,we called for a fried rice and a dry noodle. You can opt for mee goreng if you like it hot.The dry noodle is definitely better than the fried rice.It is chewy and fragnant. The total spending for 5 is around $60.00.We will definitely be back for other dishes.
