Great pancakes! Smile Jun 06, 2011

Categories : Café

How I wish more cafes would serves all-day breakfast! I'm sure that I'm not the only one in a love affair with breakfast food. Give me toast, waffles and scrambled eggs any time during time and I'm bound to be satisfied.

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to pass by Raffles City when I remembered that there was an All-Day Dining Cedele outlet at Level 3 which serves All-Day Breakfast, everyday. I know this sounds unusual, but I knew I had to have Wild Blueberry Pancakes for dinner!

Wild Blueberry Pancakes with sausages ($12.90++)

Cedele's pancakes were the softest, most fluffy ones that I've ever had. Although I'm a sucker for thick pancakes, the texture of the pancakes served here were so delightful, I didn't mind their thinness. The pancakes came generously studded with tangy, juicy blueberries which didn't really appeal to my sweet tooth. Thankfully there was a saucer of (authentic!) maple syrup to counter their tartness.

Also included in the set was a couple of snappy and well-fried sausages, as well as a small portion of salad leaveswas included as well, for a refreshing dose of fibre and vitamins.

I certainly wouldn't mind coming back for more of those fluffy pancakes!

The Flyin' Bread Smile Jun 06, 2011
Categories : Indian | Burgers and Sandwiches

The Flyin' Bread is one of the many takeaway eateries at 313 Food Hall (it's not as big as Ion Orchard's though). My mom and I were deciding whether to give this stall a try when this man (who's quite likely to be the manager) walked over and explained that what went into the healthy rolls.

To make the pita-like wrap, the chef will spin a disc of dough into the air to make it evenly thick. This will then be cooked without any oil and be used to wrap up some veggies and a skewer of lean meat (also grilled without any fat). Apparently the only fat that goes inside will come from the dressing. Truthfully I'm not too concerned about how lean the meat is, just as long as it's not too fatty, but I'm certain there must still be a bit of fat in the meat.
You'll only get to catch the chef in action if you're lucky 'cos the rolls are assembled with wraps from a cooker. The meat was grilled on the spot though.

Thanks to the good service, I decided to give the Chicken Flyer ($3.50) a try. The wrap was chewy and fluffy, like a healthy version of prata. I liked how the parsley inside the wrap gave it a refreshing edge. Coupled with the fresh veggies, lean meat and tasty dressing, I have to admit that the barbecued meat wrap tasted quite healthy indeed.
Much less guilt-rendering than a GoGo Franks prata sausage wrap- I won't mind having this again!

Marvellous banana muffin Smile Jun 06, 2011

Loaded with yummy banana chunks and juicy raisins, Muffin Marvel's banana muffin ($1.50) was marvellously fluffy and less greasy than most of its counterparts. It'll have been even better if it had a crisp crust though. The banana walnut muffin, however, contained less bananas than I would have liked, so stick with the former!

Froyo @ Coffee Bean OK Jun 06, 2011
Categories : American

Seeing that the Coffee Bean was offering blended coffee- and tea-flavored froyos, I took a closer look at the flavors and was glad to see that my favorite drink, Black Forest Ice-blended, was in the list!

As expected, Coffee Bean's froyo ($5.50 for a small cup. A regular cup costs $6.20) failed to live up to the frozen yogurt kings. It tended to the icy side, and was a bit watery. It could have been smoother too, i.e. more consistency's needed. Another thing, don't expect the tanginess of yogurt- these frozen swirls are as sweet as- and actually bear a closer resemblance to- soft-serve ice-cream.

Nonetheless, I still liked my Black Forest frozen swirl 'cos it featured an infusion of my favorite drink. FYI, the Black Forest froyo is made of vanilla yogurt + espresso + cherry bits + chocolate-coated coffee beans. The other flavors of Blended Swirls available are Banana Caramel, Berry'd Treasure, Caramel Macchiato, Espresso, Matcha Green Tea, Peach Mango and Pomegranate.

Wheat Baumkuchen OK Jun 05, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Bakery

Wheat Baumkuchen is a bakery cafe producing the famed layered German confection, easily recognized by its characteristic concentric rings which resemble the cross-section of a tree trunk. No surprise, then, that baumkuchen actually translates to "tree cake". Like its lookalike kueh lapis, baumkuchen is painstakingly baked layer by layer, except that this is all performed on a rotating spit.

Although the layers of my Classic original オリジナル baumkuchen were visually well-defined, this was not the case taste-wise. On its own, it tasted similar to a butter cake, and could have been more buttery and moist. Thankfully, the cake was coated with a layer of refreshing lemon frosting that helped to liven up its flavor.

While I felt that Wheat Baumkuchen's cakes please the eyes more than the tastebuds, I wouldn't mind trying some of the other innovative baumkuchen flavors it offers, such as durian, green tea and Nutella almond.
