Hidden @ the second level of an office building ( Winstedt road, near to distict 10 bistro bar ) there is a cosy cafe that offers healthy meals. The cafe, The Diet Butler was set up 3 months ago and so far there wasn’t much advertising & we were kept uninformed about its existence.

We all know the responsibility of a butler & in this case, The Diet Butler would be in charge of our food service – providing healthy meals . The Diet Butler is the brainchild of Mr Owen Chong ( 2nd runner up of Manhunt 2008)

The cafe is cosy & probably sit around 20 people ( 4 tables) .Most of their customers preferred to call for delivery. The regulars are the office people and they would call for delivery & food would be sent to their door asap. They also provide * home delivery but restrict to certain areas ( preferably the CBD, Orchard, Bukit Timah ). If you are looking for a healthy meal yet lazy to get out from your office/ house, just give them a call!
* delivery charge of $ 3 applies

Menu
Their Objective is to provide healthy meals and no doubt the food being offered are on the healthy side . No deep-frying, chicken breast meat, salads … etc .
The menu is changed monthly and selected items would be replaced by new dishes. Thus, it provides you a good reason to head back monthly for something new to try out.

Crab & Tangerine Salad ($9+)
There is a heavy usage of mayonnaise in this salad & is this healthy? I doubt so… The crab was the normal crabstick ( how I wished it was real crabmeat) and I do like the orange segments that added a tangy and fruity flavour to the salad.

2 generous chicken breast fillets were heavily seasoned with black ,were served with cubes of mangoes & spicy sauce. The meat has a pungent & peppery taste. Personally, I am not a fan of the breast meat as it tends to be tougher & dry out easily. I was right , the meat was tough but the sauce and sweet mangoes provides a sweet & tangy finish. It would be good if Chicken Leg were used.

Verdict : Come down to The Diet Butler for a healthy meal . If you are lazy to leave your house / inconvenience due to distance, just give them a call & food would be sent to your doorstep!

Cute cafe Smile Oct 06, 2010

Categories : Café | Kids-Friendly

It’s really hard to miss this cheeky cafe located along Tanjong katong road. With a pinch of salt by Kyra is cosy cafe that offers reasonable-priced Western food. Kyra is a very common first name for women in the U.S.
This cafe is popular with people of all ages and it’s even featured in various TVprogrammes ( introduce yummy food) .

The cafe has an attractive decor – cute posters, the wallpapers uses bright colours such as baby blue and pink and adorable pictures and photo are being hang up on the walls. The tables & chair are smaller in size too. I felt like a small little kid dining here & I assured Girls would fall in love with this place!

Menu
They offer a range of appetitzer, mains , pastas & risottos. The most important fact – they are reasonably priced! NO GST & SERVICE CHARGE. The mains are priced from $8.90 onwards and simply top up $3.50 to enjoy a soup of the day/ salad, a drink and dessert of the day.
Pictures of the food are shown in *the photo album, to allow informative choice.
*Enquire about the photo album.
P.S They have escargots too and I might try that the next time.

The set lunch
The set lunch is priced at $6.90 nett which allows you to choose a main dish from 4 choices & inclusive of a drink, soup and a scoop of ice-cream. The set lunch is VERY POPULAR and the food served was decent ( enquired comments from a diner ) .

Soft-shelled crab salad ($7.90)
One of the popular salad here and a crispy soft-shell crab laid on top of ice-berg lettuce & served with 1000island dressing. The soft shell crab was warm and crispy and one is not enough!

Mrs Dory Garlic-Crusted ($9.90)
I had the beautiful Mrs Dory fish with a garlic crust skin, served with roasted potatoes, beans and carrots. The dory was soft but the ”garlic-crusted” skin could be better. It was slightly soggy and mild. It taste more like soggy breadcrumbs to me rather than a crusty skin .
Roasted potatoes had a fragrant aroma of herbs ( dill & tarragon ) and a touch of olive oil… I like!
I think they blanched the carrots in boiling water with lemon as the lemony flavour seemed to be infused in the carrots.

Verdict: Definitely worth a visit again. Prices are reasonable , cafe is cosy, food is decent, no ++ and it brings back childhood memories, what more can I ask?

Promotional lunch set OK Oct 05, 2010

Cafe Indulge is a ‘‘hidden gem” at The Cathy. This is my third visit and it seems that the standard had dropped a little. Cafe Induge is the brainchild of Kelvin Chua, currently a professional Food Consultant who designs specialty menus, and a Food Photography Stylist for local and international food manufacturers and their advertising purposes.

Cafe Indulge was previously known as ‘‘ The Indulge” and after a ‘make-over”, they changed their name and restaurant set-up.
They are offering a lunch promotion- Main course comes with *2 free sides, soup of the day , a drink and a scoop of ice-cream.
* Free sides : Coleslaw , roasted potatoes, french beans, grilled corn, mixed salad, xiao bai cai and potato salad . Individual side dish cost $1.50

The Menu
After the ‘make-over’, they had introduced a range of new dishes to the menu. The popular dishes- Whole Lobster Pasta, Crispy prawns & Red wine braised lamb shank are highly recommended.
My personal favourite would be the ‘Crispy Prawns’ which is basically 4 deep-fried ‘ang kah’ prawns topped with a special wasabi-mayo sauce & sunflower seeds to add a little crunch.

Side Salad
Salad leaves with mayonnaise and topped with some black sesame seeds.

Herb Infused balsamic chicken ($10.90+)
The grilled chicken arrived in less than 5 mins and it was not warm. I ordered an extra potato salad as a side dish & the grilled chicken laid on top of the potato salad. The grilled chicken is rather tasteless on its own but the sweet balsamic complement well with the chicken. The potato salad is a little bland and I was informed that they added a little wasabi & mayo but I could only taste mayonnaise and bits of onions.

Chocolate ice-cream
Only chocolate- flavoured ice-cream is available and I find the lunch promotion reasonable for its price. Cafe Indulge is an ideal place for lunch/ dinner where you can relax and enjoy your food without any disturbance ( cos its very quiet!)

Tapas in the heartlands OK Oct 04, 2010

Categories : Spanish | Mexican | Restaurant | Seafood | Kids-Friendly

A one week old Spanish restaurant , Cocina de Pasion was opened along Tanjong Katong Road . Cocina refers to ” Kitchen” in Spanish and true, they serve a blend of Mexican & Spanish Tapas.

They offer a blend of Spanish & Mexican Tapas and therefore you can find Burritos, quesadillas ..(Mexican) , garlic prawns , gazpacho , deep-fried potato balls ( spanish ) in the menu.

Chicken mango salsa ( opening special $10.90 nett)
They are currently offering promotions for opening and choose one from any of the 4 dishes being offered for $10.90 nettA palm-sized chicken breast was served lightly marinated and grilled. The grilled chicken breast was topped with lots of mango cubes and salsa. The mangoes were sweet and salsa added a tangy and refreshing flavour. The baked potatoes were soft but not mushy.

Verdict: NO GST & SVC CHARGE here and prices are reasonable (esp for tapas). The menu selections are limited as they are currently in the process of developing the menu and the restaurant.
P.S The food served are Halal certified (muslims are welcomed!)

Tapas Smile Oct 04, 2010

Sabroso Tapas Wine Bar, the latest Tapas wine bar at Holland Village. Sabroso is officially opened on 1 st October, which is just 3 days ago. Sabroso means delicious, flavourful and tasty and they hoped to offer delicious Spanish Tapas with an Asian Twist .

The Menu
They offer light spanish tapas but they are still in the mist of updating their menu therefore some of the tapas listed in the menu are not ready and there aren’t much selections . According to the chef, they would be introducing new tapas gradually to the menu.

Garlic prawns ($11+)
6 succulent prawns marinated with some spices and lightly sauteed with bits of garlic. The garlic bits were lightly burnt and infused with sweetness of brown sugar. The bits of garlic complement very well with the prawns.

Pan Broiled Scallops ($10+)
The scallops were bouncy and juicy, bursting with flavours in each bite. There were strong flavours of coriander and spring onions due to the garnishes on the scallops. The sauce were infused with white wine and it goes well with the scallops. Thumps up!

Verdict: Prices are reasonable and they absorb the 7% GST for these 2 weeks. Bring along a friend for buffet dinner & get a complimentary bottle of wine ( promotion ends 31 Oct).
