Wholemeal wraps OK Sep 09, 2010
Categories : Bakery | Café

Froots is another sandwich bar in Hitachi Towers and I was attracted by the promotional offers of their wraps and decided to check this place out.

Froots is a small cafe and there were limited seats thus you had to grab a place fast to avoid waiting .The different choices of wraps are printed on the menu board and popular choices are the Roast beef ciabatta and Wholewheat wrap with wasabi chicken.

Wholewheat wrap with wasabi chicken ($6)

The wholewheat tortilla wrap was warm and very crispy. The chicken was skinless and boneless. The wasabi was mixed with some mayonnaise and thus it was not too pungent and they included some lettuce in the wrap too…. healthy!
Verdict: The tortilla wrap was good and very few places serve wholewheat tortilla wraps.

Singapore top 3 salad bar  Smile Sep 09, 2010

Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches | Salads/ Acai Bowl

There are plenty of salad bars in the CBD area . Salad bars are the favourites of the working executives where they can fill their stomach easily within a short time + it’s healthy too! Many of them do a take-away for the salads for convenience .
The Green bar is one of the salad design place in Hitachi Towers and it is voted as one of the Top 3 of Singapore’s Best Salad bar!

There are many choices of salad available and now… in a dilemma of what to have?
The Popular : Smoked Duck Surprise, Tandoor Tandoor and Caesar Salad
1) Decide on what you want by looking at the screen (menu)
2) Queue up at the counter to place your order
3) Grab a seat quickly if you are dining in
4) Get the number tag and the salad would be served to you shortly.

chilli crab salad ($9.50)

I wanted to try something different and had the chilli crab salad. The portion was huge and they were very generous with the ingredients. Fresh rocket leaves were crisp , real crab meat with their special chilli dressing, raisins, pineapple cubes and ribbon pasta all arranged nicely in the salad bowl . The chilli dressing goes very well with the ribbon pasta as it is addictive!
Verdict: Definitely one of the salad bars that I would head back again.

I had been to Eden Sanctuary at Club Street but ever since it has closed down, there wasn’t any news of Eden Sanctuary opening again in the vicinity of Chinatown.Actually I was there before Eden Sanctuary opened it’s doors. I did’t try their food at that time as the cafe looks small and dull, probably one of the places no one would have noticed. I realised that I had overlooked this ”hidden-gem”!

A mini garden

Even though the cafe was small , probably sit around 6 tables (you may have to share tables) , there is a mini garden right at the end. Well, some of the fruits , plants and flowers are used in the food.

The set lunch menu

They do offer a 2 or 3 course set lunch menu priced at $12.90 and $14.90, main course at $10.90 ( no ++).

Eden Sanctuary Salad ($9.90)

Without any further hesistation, I had their signature Eden Sanctuary Salad —– use the different 6 colours. the 6 colours were red, orange, green, white, blue and brown. It consists of orange slices, blueberries, mixed greens, cherry tomatoes and multi-grain bread, tossed in a citrus dressing. The dressing is very mild and refreshing. There were rose petals to act as garnishes and they can be eaten too!

Rosemary rose petal olive chicken ($16.90)

The chicken leg was marinated with rosemary and other herbs overnight before roasting to retain the juice. The meat was tender and juicy and infused with strong aroma of rosemary which I simply lovvve it! Even though I do not normally eat the skin of the chicken ( where the fats are found ), the skin was simply sooooo crispy that I can’t control myself. The juice from the chicken just flows out the moment I sliced the meat apart…. and that was super juicy and delicious! Highly recommended!

Modena Mousse cake ($2)
I was curious about this ”modena” moussecake due to the unique name. The chef challenged me to guess what it was after trying it. My first response after trying a little was ” tangy and has citrus flavour… erm… lemon cheesecake ? ” I was wrong and the answer he gave was Mousse cake made with Balsamic vingear and black pepper. This interesting combination was the chef’s own creation. This mousse cake is a very light dessert to end a meal.

The chef created some new flavours of the mooncake prepared some samples of the diners to try and provide feedback. Personally, I felt all the flavours taste quite similar but the Apricot with Grand Marnier stands out due to the tangy flavour. I am not at expert in eating mooncakes and in fact my family prefer the traditional baked five kernels mooncakes to the snowskin ones.

Verdict: Floral cuisine definitely worth a visit! I would be back for the rosemary chicken! A pity that the cafe was small and have limited seats and be there early to grab a seat!

Burgers Smile Sep 08, 2010

Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches

I’m sure ”burger lovers” would have been to Relish thus no further introduction needed.
If you fancy something interesting and are adventurous enough, give their burgers a try ! Their burgers have interesting names and have different combinations e.g Chicken Masak Merah burger and Ram-lee beef burger which you cannot find it elsewhere except at Relish. If burgers are not your cup of tea, try the pastas instead — Spicy conpoy & Hae Bee spaghetti , a fusion pasta dish with Asian influence.
There is a 2/ 3 course set lunch priced at $20++ and $22++ respectively. You can opt for either the burger or the pasta dish of the day.

Black cod burger ($15++)

*All burgers comes with either side salad/ fries
The Black cod burger is a new item to the menu. The black cod fillet is battered and deep-fried till golden brown. It was crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. I just felt that the cod fillet was a little bland. The battered black cod fillet is sandwiched between the sesame buns ( warm and crusty ) , top with shredded lettuce and gherkins spread. You can ask for some dipping sauces ( chilli, mustard, mayo or tomato ) for your fries or eat it with the burger.
Battered cod fish with gherkins
*Crsipy skin + yummy gherkins spread…. delicious!!!*

Verdict: The buns were good , warm and crusty , patty is unique ( depends on what you order) the ambience is great and the service is fantastic! Worth a visit if you don’t mind paying $15 over bucks for a burger.
