Avocado gula melaka!!! Smile May 09, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Juices

My colleagues and I tend to visit this shop during lunch after some shopping at Daiso, which is just beside it. Gosh! I'm glad I tried their avocado gula melaka (they call it "Green Beauty"). It's so much better than the ones I sometimes buy from the Hong Lim hawker centre a stone's throw away. The ones at hawker centre are pretty watery, i think there's loads of water and ice and sugar but not much avocado blended in so this place is god-sent since it's so near my work place!

The basic juices are pretty cheap, same price as hawker centre. For example, the apple juice is $2 and the orange juice is $2 as well. so very reasonable considering it's in a mall rather than hawker centre. plus they do the juicing in front of you, so you know there's no adding of water or sugar for the fruit juice.

fish and chips OK Mar 30, 2012

I tried the fish and chips. I must say that the appearance looks pretty good. Like the batter is fried very well and is crispy and golden brown. The issue with it is probably my personal preference. I kinda felt that the fish is under-cooked cos the flesh is not exactly the powdery white flesh but instead sort of half translucent yet with tinge of white. The other complaint is that the flesh is very thin. Too thin! I think I eat more of the batter than the fish. Then again, if you like the crispy batter more than the meat of the fish, you may just like this dish.

char kway teow Smile Mar 30, 2012

The char kway teow here is wet and yummy. The sauce is good for people who like stronger tastes because it is slightly sweeter than average ones. But luckily, the sweetness is kinda neutralised by the saltiness of the other ingredients. I love the fresh cockles as the seafood flavour bursts in the mouth with each bite and blends in very well with the sweetness of the dish. Recommended for people who like it sweet!

sushi OK Mar 28, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I tried the onigiri from Sushi Deli. The strange thing is that the salmon onigiri tastes more like tuna onigiri. It's so odd so the salmon inside really looks and taste more like tuna. I suspect that they mix the salmon and tuna filling together cos salmon is more expensive so they cut costs by blending it with some tuna. I find the overall taste ok, it just feels like i'm being cheated of real salmon filling but I guess you can't expect too much. The rice inside this is harder than what you'd expect from Japanese sushi rice. It's a bit closer to our normal chinese white rice that has some vinegar added to it to get the shape. I wouldn't quite recommend this unless you're desperate for some onigiri.

This is a box of coconut cookies from Royce. They come in boxes of 25 pieces each. I must say that the cookie is rather thin, with the bottom of it coated with a layer of high quality chocolate. The cookie itself tastes of coconut but without the desiccated taste of those off-shelf coconut biscuits we get from supermarkets. So the result is a very balanced coconut plus chocolate taste. The texture is good too as it's not dry when the chocolate layer melts in your mouth.
