Carrot cake

Carrot cake

I'm a fan of carrot cakes and stopped by Cedele for a fix. The slice of carrot cake was quite big, great for sharing. The cake itself was okay but not good enough for me. A little too sweet, the cake lacked the richness of ingredients (like nuts, CARROTS, etc.), which the reason why I like carrot cakes in the first place. With the complexity of ingredients compromised, the cake was mediocre in terms of texture and taste. Still passable but my quest for great carrot cake continues!

Yummy

Yummy

I don't usually eat cha kway teow but something told me I had to try the one at Tiong Bahru Market. The stall is owned and run by an 82 year old man, who has spent his entire life frying noodles; so it was no surprise that my plate of noodles was really good! It was really flavorful, I could taste the garlic and the noodles didn't have an overpowering "starchy" feel/ taste that some other places have. It wasn't too oily either. My only complain is that there was too little "hum" haha but that's just me. Will definitely eat this again!

mushroom and cheese crepe

mushroom and cheese crepe

I had the mushroom and cheese crepe at reedz cafe for the second time and was slightly disappointed this time round as I remember it to be much fuller and tastier the other time. The cheese wasn't the thick kind and was slightly watery.. The ingredients were normal and there was nothing special about the crepe either. Gotta give them effort for the presentation though (see pictures) and I like that they serve their food with sides to complete the meal. In my opinion, Reedz is great if you are sick of canteen food and want to pay slightly more for more "premium" food, but I'd recommend that you save that money and get their drinks instead. I didn't get drinks during this visit but their coffee really worth it for its quality and I've heard great things about their iced lemon tea too!

Kimchi Fried Rice with Chicken

Kimchi Fried Rice with Chicken

I fell in love with korean cuisine ever since visiting korea last year and since then I've always been drawn to korean dishes, especially that of kimchi. Tried the kimchi fried rice here I must say it's really addictive as I ended up eating this almost every week! The kimchi fried rice alone is $4.50 and if you add meat (chicken, beef or pork) it's $5.10. Pretty worth it as they give a generous amount of rice and meat. The rice is slightly spicy and the kimchi can get a little salty at times but I love the sticky consistency of the rice. A staple for me! smile

p.s. their other dishes are good too but i'll save those for a separate review ;)

Nice place to Chill Smile Mar 10, 2012

Categories : Bakery | Café | Burgers and Sandwiches | Salads/ Acai Bowl

I've been to Simply Bread only once, at their Sixth Avenue branch, and I remember their bread being really fresh and tasty and the atmosphere really suitable for brunch. Went to the Cluny Court branch with my friends for brunch and its a much quieter, smaller place. The bread seems less fresh and a lot lesser in variety. I was initially quite disappointed that we didn't go to their other branch instead but the Beef Sandwich (i don't remember the exact name, there are two beef sandwiches, this is the one that has some "rare" beef in it) saved the day!! Look at the photo - generous amounts of good quality beef in a sandwich. Pretty pricy (about $10) but quite worth it as I rarely come across such good quality meat in a sandwich. The beef reminded me of beef jerky which I used to eat in US. Yum smile Btw that's just half of the sandwich (shared with a friend). Coffee was decent, and it was a quiet/ empty enough place to chill out with my friends on a Sunday afternoon. If you want fresh bread, go to the other branch. Otherwise, this place is good for chilling and their sandwiches. Recommended!
