duck porridge Smile Mar 31, 2012

The duck porridge here is pretty good. The sauce for the porridge makes it rather tasty. Luckily it is not overly salty like what some other stalls are like. The duck comes in little chunks inside the porridge. The duck meat isn't spectacular, perhaps it's little pieces instead of a nicely chopped section of the duck. I would say that the porridge itself is laudable as it is cooked until the rice is very soft.

I tried the chicken feet mushroom noodle at this stall and oh my goodness, it is delicious! The chicken feet is braised to become extremely tasty and the texture is wonderful especially for those who love the slightly slimy collagen within the chicken feet. Taste wise, this is a richly-flavoured chicken feet that you must try if you're quite into chicken feet. The mushroom is normal, nothing much to rave about. The noodles, though, was spectacular. It was springy and offered a good chewy texture to the dish. A side note though, I am quite sensitive to MSG and I'm therefore very sure that this stall used A LOT of it cos I became sooooo thirsty after the meal. It's the only thing I ate, in case you're wondering. But well I guess I could take this once in a rare while! The lady at the counter is very friendly, all smiles smile

mushroom soup Cry Mar 30, 2012

The mushroom soup here is quite disappointing. It does not have the thick texture that I expect from a decent restaurant. Well first of all, as you can see from the picture, the soup is quite runny, which means that there's quite a lot of water added to dilute it. Also, the mushroom are not generous enough as you can hardly feel it in your mouth. So no 'bite' to the texture of the soup. The taste was mediocre. All in all, do not order this if you're here at this restaurant.

bean curd Smile Mar 30, 2012

Rochor beancurd is one of my traditional bean curd favourite. It is smooth and silky. Most importantly, the bean curd isn't too sweet, which is the problem with many traditional bean curds that i eat from markets. Another good point is that such traditional bean curds tend to have this rather sandy texture, which is absent from Rochor bean curd. Certainly one of the best traditional bean curd in Singapore!

onigiri OK Mar 30, 2012

The onigiri at umisushi is not bad. I tried the tuna flavour one and liked it a lot. If you're a tuna lover, you'll be quite happy with this because the filling is quite generous, not extremely generous but slightly above average. The good thing about this is that the seaweed piece is packed separate from the rice by a plastic foil so the seaweed is still very crispy as you'll only wrap it on the rice at the moment when you're about to eat it. Good design!
