Great weekday lunch set Smile Jul 14, 2010

Categories : Bars/Lounges | Seafood | Steaks and Grills

Bedrock Bar & Grill is a recently opened steakhouse that's been garnering rave reviews about the quality of their steaks. The restaurant itself is rather stylish, with dim and mood lighting. Service was good as well, non-intrusive but always helpful.

They have some pretty good lunch sets, very affordable for a 3-course meal. I started off with the air-cured beef with mesclun salad. This tasted wonderful, with bursts of gorgonzola cheese scattered among the beef slices. The main was the classic Parisian steak frites, a thin slab of beef on a hot plate with steak butter and partnered with handcut fries. The doneness was excellent and the taste was delicious. The handcut fries were thin and crispy. The dessert was a bit of a letdown. The "doughnuts" were too thick and tasteless while the raspberries were too sharp. Only the vanilla ice-cream was ok.

Overall still a great place to good for value for money lunch sets and great steaks!

Sun with Moon Japanese Food OK Jul 13, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Sun with Moon Japanese Dining is known as a place for higher-end Japanese fare, and the ambiance is classy as well with a dim lighting and exquisite furnishings like sofas. The service is pretty good as well but I must add that the price you pay can be more than expected, especially with the smaller portions.

I ordered the yakiniku set where I get to grill the portions of meat and vegetables on a gas-fired hotplate. The concept is interesting and also the meats were really quite tasty but there was just too little of it. This is only a place for those with money to spend and want a nice place to meetup with equally rich friends.

Great value for money! Smile Jul 13, 2010

Ichiban Boshi is a great value for money Japanese restaurant. It has a wide menu of food item and great set meals as well. It serves from sushi to tonkatsu type os dishes and most of it is quite delicious! Ichiban Boshi itself at the Esplanade is a bright and airy place, very clean and nice to eat place.

I typically order the hotplate beef set which is extremely filling on it's own. Besides the beef, it also comes with salmon sashimi, chawanmushi, rice and miso soup. Very very filling and well worth the money. I also ordered a side of tori kaarage which is crispy and light to eat.

American style deli OK Jul 13, 2010
Categories : Hotel

Seah Street Deli, asides from its local sounding name, is actually an old-school American diner, even the decor reminds you of the American era where biker gangs would ride around on Harleys and diners had old school jukeboxes. The atmosphere is great and authentic but the lighting is a bit suspect.

There is a rather wide range of food served here but I went for the sandwiches, which I must say are really huge! Thick layers of filling are piled upon each other. However they are pricey for just being sandwiches. Overall the food is pretty good but the prices might turn some people off.

Great bak kut teh Smile Jul 13, 2010

Although this place is called Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha, it is actually located at Tanjong Pagar, near the KTM railway station. This place is supposedly quite famous, with lots of celebrities visiting it. Whether it's all hype or not, I can say that the whole place is really hot and you will sweat like mad eating there, especially with all the hot soup.

Normally I will order a bowl of pork ribs and rice to go with it. The pork ribs are damn tasty and the meat falls off the bone easily. The soup is tasty and intensely peppery. Like I mentioned earlier, you will sweat a lot drinking it. I also always order a big bowl of "you tiao" to soak up the excess soup once I'm done eating the pork ribs.
