Fish & Chips Smile Jul 13, 2010

Fish & Co has been around for many years, with many branches all over Singapore. Al of them are almost the same, with the interior decor styled much with a nautical theme. Service is usually prompt and good. The menu items are usually the same across outlets but the exact ingredients you may get in the seafood platter may vary.

My favourite dish there is the "best fish & chips in town" and for me, it really is one of my favourite fish & chips. The crust is light and crunchy while the fish inside is still steaming hot and so soft to break to the touch. Of course my favourite touch is the lemon butter that they love to spread on top. Besides this, I like to order the grilled calamari rings as a side because they are just so yummy to chew on while we wait for the mains.

Great for supper! Smile Jul 12, 2010

Al-Ameen Eating House is a famous supper spot along the crowded Cheong Chin Man Road where there are also many other eating places housed along the road. Al-Ameen primarily sells a wide range of Indian food such as prata, naan, thosai and curry dishes. Besides Indian food, they also sell Muslim food such as nasi briyani or maggi goreng. You'd be surprised that they even sell Chinese, Thai and even Western dishes! However I would not really recommend ordering them here, since you also wouldn't go to steakhouse to eat prata.

My favourite dish here is the cheese naan together with the chicken marsala curry. The cheese naan is soft and tender to the bite but with delicious cheese spread over it. Eating this together with the chicken chunks and the marsala curry is just sinfully yumym!

Dozo! Smile Jul 12, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Dozo is a nice and intimate restaurant located in a suburban mall which belies its looks. Once you step in, it is a posh looking interior but still mostly black and purple decor with elaborate ornaments and lighting. The waiters provide excellent service and attend to your every need. However sometimes they try a bit too hard and their jokes are a bit lame and corny as they joke about the food.

They have a well known 6-7 course set meal which I ordered, where you get to choose from a range of dishes for each course. The food is generally well presented on special tableware and plates. One of the popular mains was the beef tenderloin on "Pu-Ye" leaf on hot granite stone which cooked the raw tenderloin. Quite showy!

Overall Dozo is a great place for a special occasion and it is not too expensive however you may find that the portions are smaller than expected. It is still worth giving this place a try.

Miharu's subtle ramen OK Jul 11, 2010
Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Restaurant | Ramen

Located at a quiet part of Singapore, Sapporo Ramen Miharu is at one corner of Gallery Hotel, with a spartan and traditional decor that brings to memory the ramen shops in Japan, except slightly modernised and cleaner.

I ordered the tonkotsu shio ramen and had to add the extra egg to it which was not too bad actually. The noodles were nice and springy and the soup stock was subtle but there was a salty undertone to it. I also bought some char siew pork slices to share with my friend but sadly I felt that they were just mediocre.

The price is decent enough but overall I think the flavours arent strong enough.

Ma Maison dinner! Smile Jul 11, 2010
Categories : French | Japanese | Fusion

Ma Maison is homely Japanese restaurant located at Bugis Junction. Their food is the classic Japanese fusion take on mainly French and Italian dishes and they do it very well indeed! The restaurant has a great warm ambiance and it is decorated is all sorts of bric-a-bracs which makes it feel like you're really inside a home.

The food is great and there is a lot of attention to detail. Their escargots are cheap but good and come served on a flaming mound of crystals. Very showy! Taste great also with the herbed butter. I also like to order their omurice with beef stroganov. While the beef stroganov doesnt have a very strong taste, the omelette on the omurice tastes absolutely heavenly!
