I escaped to Verre after a less than memorable dinner/drink session at Bar Bar Black Sheep nearby. It was already pretty late (10ish) and my friends and I were looking for a place with air-conditioning to relax and indulge in desserts. Lots of restaurants nearby were already closed so that's how we stumbled upon Verre.

We were attracted to the place because it was so quiet and slightly posh-looking. To our surprise, when we looked at the menu outside, the prices were very, very reasonable. $9 for chocolate lava cake. I was like "OKAY LET'S GO IN."

First impressions count and I could already tell service was great. The crew's very attentive and were constantly topping up our glasses with cold water from the moment we sat down at this giant couch area at the corner (lovely spot!!).

As I mentioned, we were here primarily for desserts. We all basically ordered x1 each (greedy I know). We had x3 choc lava cakes, x2 banana nutella thingy (for the life of me I can't remember what it's called) and x1 red fruit creme brulee.

The banana nutella treat was basically a mishmash of both ingredients, the banana came in cubes and topped the nutella mixture below. I only had a mouthful but I thought it was a pretty "healthy", light dessert compared to the rest.

The creme brulee was a real surprise. I'm not usually a fan of this dessert, but they made it so well here. It's perfectly done and it's not too creamy to stomach. Comes with bits of strawberries and is just the right amount of sweet. Consistency was fab!

Last but not least, the choc lava cake was actually very decent. I've had worse variations (where I had to pay a muchhhh higher price) so this was a pleasant surprise. The vanilla ice cream sits on this bed of crumbled biscuits - something a little different which I appreciated.

I peeked at the mains while ordering desserts and they all looked really tempting... think I'll be back for a nice dinner one day!

I visited BBBS @ Robertson Quay for a gathering with some friends of mine. First things first, this place is quite hard to reach. However, since it's quite inaccessible, what you get is a laid-back atmosphere in a Clarke Quay look-alike spot. It's quite refreshing but the thing about this area is that it. is. really. WARMMMM!

BBBS is a fusion bar/restaurant with Thai, Indian and Western cuisine. It's an interesting dining concept, but unfortunately, what I ordered was really substandard.

The portion of the Platterz Cheeseburger was miserable. The buns weren't fresh. Also, the burger came with fries that weren't that hot and tomato sauce in this small little disposable sauce dish. When we asked for more tomato sauce, guess what the waiter did? With this half-confused, half-irritated look on his face, he stared at us for a couple of seconds and actually did this facepalm thing before walking away. He never returned with what we asked for.

All I can say is... what the...?!

Substandard food, HORRIBLE service (even the table behind us was complaining like crazy!), too hot to handle environment (no fans except for ONE area...) - it's such a shame because Robertson Quay is a very good place to chill out at in general. Too bad cos there are way better bars in the area e.g. Verre which is just down the row (escaped there after BBBS). Pfft, never coming back here!

Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

I love chicken rice (I mean... who doesn't) but in my opinion, NOBODY makes better chicken rice than the one here at the top floor of Far East Plaza.

It's easy to spot, really. It's the old-school-looking stall with a big, bright yellow signboard with a longgggg queue almost anytime of the day. But not to worry, the queue moves quite fast because most of the time, people end up having to share tables with other patrons (which can get quite awkward but if you frequent the place you'll get used to it).

I come here almost every month since I work nearby. My colleagues and I usually polish off a plate of half chicken, and at times, a whole chicken if we're REALLY hungry.

Our favourite is the traditional steamed chicken. They make it sooo differently here, I can't quite put my finger on it though. Maybe it's the tenderness of the meat, or the smoothness of the skin. Or perhaps it's the super tasty sauce, which I love drenching the cucumbers in (I don't even like vegetables!). The rice is also a real winner, and the chilli? I've never tasted better! It's so awesome and spicy! I can't even begin to describe how delish the soup is too... as you can see, this stall has the whole package, the chicken, the rice, the soup, the chilli... everything is perfecto! Please do yourself a favour and give this a try. You won't regret it! lol

Kopi crab... for realz!! Smile Mar 28, 2013

Majestic Bay is great for seafood and whatnot... but what many aren't aware of is that on their menu, there's a coffee-cooked crustacean!

Kopi crab is a weird dish and I was lucky enough to give it a try. First they pour all sorts of sauces and liquids all over it and then they flambé it at your table. It's a cool sight.

I thought the taste needed some getting used to. Tasted a lot like caramel popcorn if you ask me... it's definitely something new. Give it a go!

Loola's Brownie is to die for! Smile Mar 28, 2013

This was my nth visit to Loola's and this time, I was there solely for desserts. My friends and I each ordered our own and for me, the decision was a no-brainer. I had Loola's Brownie.

The reason why I love this brownie so much is that it's super moist. You wouldn't believe how fudgy it is! The quality is top-notch and the best part is that in between, you will find a layer of salted caramel. Fabulous!
