RamenPlay Bishan, located near Bishan MRT Station, is a fine place for dining, with 2 levels of seating areas. The kitchen is located at the 1st level, and there are food lifts to transport the dishes to the 2nd level. I went there with my parents and grandma for dinner.

This is a memorable dining moment for me because this is the first time that we are having dinner at a Japanese restaurant during CNY period (usually we go to Chinese restaurants) and also our first time dining at RamenPlay, and grandma enjoys the food!

These were what we ordered:

Umani Ramen ($11.80)
Umani Ramen is one of RamenPlay's specialities; a bowl of ramen cooked in rich and thick gravy using shoyu soupbase, and topped with prawn, cuttlefish, pork, quail’s egg and vegetables. Its taste is similar to the hokkien noodles sold at zi char stalls, except that more tender noodles are used.

Crispy Dango ($3.80)
These deep-fried chicken meatballs are crispy, but the mayonnaise and plum sauce makes this a too sweet dish.

Miso Cheese Platter ($8.80)
This platter consists of 3 items, namely breaded cheese with cucumber, rice roll stuffed with veg in sweet sauce and takoyaki. Love the rice roll the best because it is refreshing and sweet!

Oreo Milkshake ($4.80)
Oreo milkshake, topped with cream, chocolate shavings and a love letter stick is the perfect drink for chocoholics like myself!

Yuzu Yoghurt ($4.80)
A sweet yoghurt drink with a zesty lemon flavor helps to cleanse the palate for more dishes coming along the way!

Black Sesame Fried Rice ($10.80)
The black sesame taste was just right, giving the fried rice its fragrant scent, and it's a great dish to go with other side dishes!

Butariki Ishinabe ($12.80)
Pan-fried and barbequed pork, spring onion, seaweed, and egg sit on a bed of premium Japanese Niigata rice. The pork were thinly sliced, making me crave for each mouthful and not getting sick of the taste. Love the sauce that was added to the dish; made it more flavourful!

8 Treasure Hot Stone Rice ($18.80)
8 ingredients (prawn, scallop, gingko, buta kakuni (pork belly), cha shu, toroniku (pork cheek), bamboo shoots, chestnuts and wolf berries) appear in this hot stone pot with rice, mushroom and egg added. Though there were 8 ingredients, the amount of each was very little and wasn't satisfying enough.

I went there recently when the cafe just opened for business. This is a new cafe situated in the office area, owned by the boss of QuickBite. Bought Chicken Hotdog ($2.50) and Iced Teapresso. The hotdog is different from other hotdogs, where you can taste crispness within the bread. The crispness is only present along some parts of the bread and not consistent throughout the entire bun. Yummy hotdog, especially with the sauce! As for the teapresso, there wasn't any hint of coffee and it tastes like QuickBite's milk tea, except it has more red tea flavour. Nonetheless, the taste is unique. Can't wait for them to start selling the rest of the food items on the menu!

Dim sum for anytime of the day OK Mar 31, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

One of my eateries for snack choices. Bought chives pork dumplings, prawn dumplings and peanut balls during my last visit. The dumplings taste nice when they are hot. Reheat them when they turn cold as the skin will start to shrivel and turn dry. The skin of most peanut balls is quite thick, and I have to bite through in order to get to the filling; this is the same for Kimly's peanut balls. Remember to stop by for some snacks, especially the dumplings!

Herbal tea Smile Mar 31, 2011

I get my fix of herbal tea mostly at Hockhua. There are many different kinds, with warm and cold variants. Since there was an outlet at the new Clementi Mall, I bought a bottle of Ginseng Chrysanthemum. I feel that chrysanthemum drink is the most 'cooling' among the drinks that I've tried. If you're sick of drinking chrysanthemum all the time, why not get a bottle of barley, water chestnut or a bottle of drink that you've never tried before? It's healthy and worth it!

Why is it so expensive? OK Mar 31, 2011

Ordered the Ebi Sjora meal that costs $8.50. Personally I think that the meal is overpriced, as there are cheaper and tastier Jap food at other places. The ebi was okay, but I never liked Yoshinoya's vegetables as they were bland and not soft at times. The drink, Mango Peach, was refreshing.

The staff provided good service by introducing the types of Sjora meals available, such as chicken, beef, ebi and explained the meal promotion.
