Vegetarian food need not be bland, and with the introduction of innovative vegetarian 'meat' dishes, it appeals to more people. I like visiting this stall as there's rice and noodles, with tasty food, and affordable prices. For my last visit, I ordered rice with broccoli, potato and tau kee. The highlight of this combination is the tau kee. I thought I had ordered tau pok but I got tau kee instead. Usually for vegetarian food, I like to order fried tau kee, but I was glad that the stall owner had given me this tau kee dish. Perhaps it's because it's drenched in lu zhi (sauce) so unlike plain tau kee, this kind was savoury and had bite to it. Be sure not to give this stall a miss!

A very filling burger Smile Mar 24, 2011

Ordered 2 sets of Whopper Value Meal. It's such a big burger, with thick beef patty, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and pickles. The onions give crunchiness to the burger. Out of the drinks at BK, I prefer Barley as it's not a carbonated drink. If you don't have a big appetite, 1 burger is enough to share between 2 people.

Discounted treats! Smile Mar 22, 2011

During Café Cartel’s Happy Hours from 9pm, snacks, ice-cream, coffee drinks and cakes are 50% off! On top of that, there’s free flow of bread, so it’s a definite yes to visit there! In the past, customers cut the bread by themselves, but now, the waiters serve the bread to your table.

This time round, I tried two cake flavours: Pear and Caramel Layered Cake and Chocolate Banana Cake (U.P. $5.80 each).

Pear and Caramel Layered Cake: The top layer of the cake was caramelized and ‘burned’ lightly so there’s a slight charred taste to it. The pear cubes within the cake were caramelized as well, which I wish they weren’t, as this turned the cake into more of a caramelized version without any taste of the pear.

Chocolate Banana Cake: I love this cake! It is soft, has white chocolate pieces and the taste of the mashed banana within the cake was not overpowering.

Also ordered a cup of Cartel Special (vanilla-flavoured espresso & caramel topped with whipped cream) (U.P. $6) to complement the cakes. The refreshing taste of vanilla makes this a great coffee drink.

Remember to drop by Café Cartel after 9pm for discounted treats!

Being the newest cinema under the GV chain, GV Yishun’s Candy Bar has a new counter and a computer screen for customers to view the food items sold and their prices. During my recent visit, I ordered the Hotdog Combo ($7.50) that consists of a hot dog and a drink. The warm hotdog was placed within the bun and I like to put chilli sauce and mustard on it. Bun was soft, meat was chewy and the sauces make it even better.

Having eaten the same food whenever I visit GV, I wish they would introduce more cooked food to the menu and have healthier alternatives for the food and drinks.

Irresistible ice-cream! Smile Mar 22, 2011

Went to Cold Stone Creamery because my friend wanted to try the ice-cream from this new ice-cream outlet that just opened in Singapore and also, I was curious about their ice-cream flavours. As this was our first visit, we didn’t know how to order and what to order as prices were not stated on their wall menu. The staff helped us by recommending one of their most ordered signature creations, the Chocolate Devotion ($7.90). There were two types of waffle baskets to choose from: Plain ($1) and Chocolate ($1.50).

I watched as she put Chocolate Ice Cream, Chocolate Chips, Brownie & Fudge on the cold slab and started mixing all the ingredients together. Finally, she flipped the ice-cream into the air and scooped it into the plain waffle basket. The ice-cream was great, and I especially enjoyed those scoops with pieces of mashed brownie. It’s a sinful treat, but worth savouring!
