Beautifully Decorated Fruit Tart Smile Dec 04, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Desserts and Cakes

Fruit Paradise is located at level 4 Japanese corner at the far end between Ajisen Ramen and Kazokutei. The whole area is called “Tokyo Walker” and based on the company stated in my bill, it should be under Bachmann Japanese Restaurant Pte Ltd.

One can seat in any of these restaurant and order the dishes from the other restaurant next to it (Interesting and space saving) though we are lucky enough to be able to sit at the tables within Fruit Paradise restaurant. The fruit tarts being on display looks so pretty and tasty that I always been wanting to try out.
Mango Fruit Tart @ $6.80 / Slice (Whole tart @ $45 for 19cm / $70 for 23cm)

Mango Fruit Tart @ $6.80 / Slice (Whole tart @ $45 for 19cm / $70 for 23cm)

The mango Fruit Tart is one of the more popular tart being sold in Fruit Paradise as these tart are being prepared using sweet Thai mangoes with cheese mousse. For those who do not really like cheese taste, you could try it out too as the cheese taste is not strong at all. The mango is able to smooth the overall taste and it is simply heavenly to eat it. Though for one thing is that the sponge cake seems to be extra over there as I would prefer to have more cheese mousse than more sponge cake in it (Personal preference).
Strawberry Tiramisu @ $6.80 / Slice (Whole Tart @ $43 for 19cm / $65 for 23cm)

Strawberry Tiramisu @ $6.80 / Slice (Whole Tart @ $43 for 19cm / $65 for 23cm)

This tart is prepared using fresh strawberries with rich cheese cream but still, the cheese is not strong for those who do not like cheese. Instead of cheese base, this tart is using custard base which I felt do not taste as good as the mango tart which uses cheese base (I like cheese).

Random dinner at The Sushi Bar Smile Dec 04, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

My friend recommended this restaurant for dinner as they sell nice value meals. This restaurant is located at one corner of the shopping mall near to the entrance path toward the toilet which it took us a while to find this place (First time eating here). Though the restaurant is small, there are a lot of people having their meals there and we have to wait for around 15 to 20 minutes before we are able to find a table to sit on. (Free sitting). Tables are very near to each other and I bump onto other people whenever I need to get something.

The staff service wise, they never really help to refill the drinks as they are mostly too busy or never take notice of it until somebody request for refill (Provided you are able to get their attention). In the end, I need to go to the counter myself and get hot water to refill our cups of green tea myself.

Anyway, in terms of the food wise, I would say it is value for money with different variety of dishes (Though smaller portion) for customer to choose from.
Chicken Katsu (Chicken Cutlet) with Rice @ $9.90

Chicken Katsu (Chicken Cutlet) with Rice @ $9.90

Chicken Katsu Curry with Rice @ $11.90

Chicken Katsu Curry with Rice @ $11.90

This is the chicken cutlet rice with and without the curry version. I would prefer the curry version one as it makes the overall taste nicer. Else, the Chicken Katsu would be too dry to be eaten together with the rice.
Sashimi Salad @ $10.90 (Small or $16.90 for big one)

Sashimi Salad @ $10.90 (Small or $16.90 for big one)

The feel of this salad is like Chinese Fa Cai Yu Sheng as they include those crispy crackers into the salad. It is nice and refreshing taste. Recommended dish though the portion is not a lot.
Sake Kabuto (Salmon Miso Hotpot) @ $15.90

Sake Kabuto (Salmon Miso Hotpot) @ $15.90

This dish is nice with full of different ingredients being added into the miso soup. Best eaten together with rice.
Salmon Ikura Don (Salmon Roe) @ $16.90

Salmon Ikura Don (Salmon Roe) @ $16.90

There are Roe and salmon sashimi on top of sushi rice. All is fresh and nice and about the same standard as compared with Sushi Tei but they are sure very stingy on the sushi rice as they just put very very little of sushi rice for the dish and the sashimi is very thinly sliced.
Salmon Avocado Roll @ $7.90 and Soft Shell Crab Roll @ $8.90

Salmon Avocado Roll @ $7.90 and Soft Shell Crab Roll @ $8.90

The seaweed wrapping the sushi roll is not crispy (Guess they delay in serving the dishes to us) though the taste is still not bad while the salmon can be said to be freshly made. This is not a bad dish to have as snack.

A simple set meal at Barbacoa Cry Dec 04, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

We decided to go Farrer Park MRT station to City Square Mall for our dinner as we never been there before. There are quite a lot of people shopping at the City Square Mall by the time we are there. After some walk plus looking at the directory, we decided to have our dinner at Barbacoa mainly because they do not charge GST and Service Charge.

What is great about the restaurant is that all their menu are all set meals which include free soup of the day and also dessert. Talk about value meals. The restaurant are nearly full when we are there and we are lucky to be able to get a table without much waiting.

The tables are quite space apart with each other and I notice that all the staff working there are youngsters (even the chef). The staff are friendly but seems to be quite busy serving the customers that they do not really help to refill the water unless you request for it.
Cream of Corn Soup – FOC

Cream of Corn Soup – FOC

Though it is free (One time serving), the soup is only acceptable standard as there are much milk and cream rather than the natural corn smell and taste. As it came free with the meal, we cannot complain about it too much.
Assorted Sausages @ $9.50

Assorted Sausages @ $9.50

The sausages are nicely cooked and prepared and the presentation is great. Meat of the sausages are juicy and the cheese sausages are nice too.

Basically, the concept of the restaurant is allow you to choose your own pasta making of ingredients which include the follow:

Step 1:
Choose your pasta base => $5.50
White Creamy // Base Pesto Olio // Base Red Tomato

Step 2:
Choose your ingredient => Vegetables @ $1.00 // Meat @ $2.00 // Seafood @ $3.00
Create your own Pasta – “Base Pesto Olio @ $5.50″ “Pan Fried Dory Fish @ $3.00″

Create your own Pasta – “Base Pesto Olio @ $5.50″ “Pan Fried Dory Fish @ $3.00″

Tje pasta was totally tasteless and for the pan fried dory fish, it is very salty!!!.
Create your own Pasta – “White Creamy @ $5.50″ “Broccodi & Carrot @ $1.00″ “Grilled Chicken @ $2.00″

Create your own Pasta – “White Creamy @ $5.50″ “Broccodi & Carrot @ $1.00″ “Grilled Chicken @ $2.00″

The pasta with white creamy base is totally tasteless while the grilled chicken meat is also very plain as they believe that the chicken never went through marination process.

In my own opinion, these 2 dishes failed badly.
Grilled Cajun Chicken @ $9.50

Grilled Cajun Chicken @ $9.50

Considering this dish as a better ones than the pasta (Create yourself type) but not of any better too. The meat is a bit too tough even though the outside looks like it is being cooked nicely as the presentation of the dish is nice and appealing. I loves their side salad and salad sauce though it is not the main food in the dish.
Corn flavor ice-cream – FOC

Corn flavor ice-cream – FOC

You can choose either 2 flavor of their ice-cream when I am there (Maybe depends on availability). I choose corn flavor instead (Other flavor is strawberry). Nothing great or bad about this ice-cream.

I have always been wanting to come to this place for their dessert as they have nice display of their dessert at the side of their display windows. And since it is open concept, we are allow to sit at this place for quite a while even after they close (But they need to clear our tables first)

They have quite a few selection of dessert and main course on their menu but since we already eaten our full, we just order the dessert which seems very appealing to us.
Matcha Azuki Parfait @ $5.80

Matcha Azuki Parfait @ $5.80

Green tea ice-cream are being used for this dessert. Not eaten by me but they sure good in designing the looks of these desserts.
Challenger @ $10.80

Challenger @ $10.80

The Challenger that we had eaten is of a smaller version as compare with the menu photos.
The ice-cream being used here is not of a good quality ones and there are a lot of cerals at the bottom of the glass with quite a lot of cream being used here. I guess, the only good points about the dessert is that the design is very nice and there are nice fruits being places on top of the ice-cream.
Never Give Up @ $19.80

Never Give Up @ $19.80

This is one big big dessert (To be eaten by one person) though it is about the same as the challenger with lots of cereal at the bottom and some fruits on top (Additional pudding on this dessert). Other than that, the ice-cream is not of a good quality type and nothing special about the dessert. We took quite a while to finished our ice-cream and had a great chat together.
Potato and Mentai with Cheese @ $5.80

Potato and Mentai with Cheese @ $5.80

Great for cheese lovers as french fries size potato are being covered with nice mentai sauce and cheese on a hot plate which can keep the dish hot and nice. Very sinful but superb nice.

Back to the oldies cafe Smile Dec 04, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

Me and my ex-colleagues had decided to meet at Jurong Point and to eat at one of the Hong Kong Restaurant named “Central Hong Kong Café” at level 3. Right when we reached the entrance of the restaurant, there are quite a lot of people having their meals over there too but still there are still some empty tables so we are able to get a table without any issue. The tables are being placed quite near to each other but still able to let some slim people walk around the place especially the staff there serving dishes to the customers. We had no problem ordering from the menu which is a laminated A3 size paper.

The cafe decoration was like you were the 70's. All the stuff they placed are those olden days our parents or grandparents used to have or used. This is a nostalgic feeling that is memorable for those older generation.
Mixed Grill of Chicken Chop and Pork @ $14.80 (Can choose 2: Pork / Chicken Chop / Beef / Fish)

Mixed Grill of Chicken Chop and Pork @ $14.80 (Can choose 2: Pork / Chicken Chop / Beef / Fish)

The mixed grill allows you to choose 2 different meat on your platter which includes some french fries, egg, hot dog and a bit of salad. One of my friend ate this dish all by himself though for me, it can be shared by 2 person. Overall, not a bad dish.

Cooked rice are being placed on top of the aluminum foil. Cheese, some greens are placed on top of it before going into a oven or microwave to make those cheese melt. This is a simple dish and nothing special to it as the unique taste is mostly focus on the cheese (They did not put a lot of cheese though).
