strawberry cake OK May 03, 2012

The strawberry shortcake is quite nice! Moist enough but I must say that the strawberries aren't sweet, pretty sour in fact, or maybe I'm just unlucky to have got one like that?

Also, the strawberry taste isn't exactly that pronounced. The cream is just vanilla instead of strawberry so it doesn't help to lift the strawberry flavour.

Compared to PrimaDeli's strawberry slice (which is around the same price range), I think this is slightly less exciting for strawberry lovers as the flavour is lacking.

Pandan Chiffon Cake

Pandan Chiffon Cake

I bought the large pandan chiffon cake here and found it amazingly soft and moist inside! I used to patronise Bengawan Solo for their pandan cakes but after trying this, I think I'll switch to this as the moist texture is something I prefer.

The special thing is that they keep it in the fridge. Apparently, it helps to keep it fresh and moist.

Try not to slice it until you're going to eat it cos slicing it allows the air to dry it up.

Importantly, it is not too sweet, which again is something I like over many other pandan cakes.

The large pandan chiffon cake is better than the small one cos the larger size helps to retain the moisture better so if you're thinking of buying it to keep several days in the fridge, go the the big one.

The service here is very good cos the lady at the counter is really smiley so thumbs up for that! Anyway this stall is quite crowded in the mornings, always has a long queue of around 8 people or longer. So u gotta be patient if u wanna eat.

The lor mee must be eaten hot! I tried it there and takeaway and I must say the takeaway tasted pretty miserable compared to the one eaten there on the spot. The serve quite a lot of ingredients with the lor mee. If you're a meat lover, you'll like this stall cos the meat servings within the lor mee is quite generous. Sauce is thick and flavourful but again, the caution is to eat it there!

original flavour Smile Apr 29, 2012

I tried the strawberry before and never bought it again as it's too sweet for my liking. The original flavour here is solid, but unfortunately, I still feel that it is a notch below Lao Ban. Firstly, the malt taste is not as strong as Lao Ban's plus the pudding itself doesn't burst into water in your mouth like Lao Ban's. However, that being said, I must say that this is the 2nd best soy pudding I've tried so far. Its sweetness is just right, very similar to Lao Ban's but sadly somehow doesn't have that wonderful burst of water in your mouth effect. But it's still worth buying, especially since they are running some weekday promotion now. I think it's buy 5 get 1 free but only on weekdays.

chee cheong fun Smile Apr 29, 2012

I tried the chee cheong fun stuffed with prawns. The chee cheong fun itself is amazing! The texture is smooth and slurps down your throat beautifully. The dark sauce is just the right taste, not too salty nor sweet, it's more the Hong Kong type of dark sauce, totally different from the Singaporean thick dark sauce on chee cheong fun. I would say that the prawns are quite a letdown cos they are quite small and are nothing fantastic. I would say that if you like the hong kong style of chee cheong fun, you must try this!
