King's Laksa Steamboat Smile Apr 29, 2013

We discovered a stretch of nom nom eateries along Teck Chye Terrace. The stretch consist of Taiwan eatery, a famous economical Teochew porriage (very crowded), some zi char, Korean BBQ etc.

Parking can be a challenge, they are fully aware of this problem, thus valet parking is available. Too stingy to pay for the service, we parked near Serangoon sports stadium and took about 10 mins to walk down.

We decided to settle for something different; steamboat, but not ordinary steamboat, it's LAKSA STEAMBOAT!!

Choice of 2 soup base. Laksa base was a must and we chose chicken soup for another. The pipping hot laksa soup base was heavenly with tau pok and cockles tongue~~~ It's intensive shiokness which you can't get from a bowl laksa noodles.

The chicken soup was freshly broth with chicken and not msg chicken cubes. Yes, my picky taste buds can tell the difference. So once, my tongue needed a "rest" from spicy laksa, drinking the chicken soup was really comforting.

There were some fried items included in the buffet, we ordered chicken wings and tofu, which came sizzling hot.

At the left hand corner were pig's kidney slices.
It's my first time to see steamboat serving this cos' it's really difficult to clean and prepare.

Mango pudding was the only dessert on the menu, no other choices liao. But we were happy with it ^_^ yummy.

The restaurant was a bit funny though. Throughout our dining for more than 1 hour there, they repeated PSY's Gangnum Style non-stop. I know it's very popular and hot, but don't have to repeat the whole night ba -____-

If you have extra calorie space to spare, can pop in to try out! Must not miss out the laksa soup base!

All Day Breakfast!! Smile Mar 26, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Kids-Friendly

Thank you OpenRice for hosting and I got to try almost all the breakfast meals in Kung Fu Paradise!
Wafflelicious - S$9.90

Wafflelicious - S$9.90

Waffles topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, fruit cocktail and strawberry sauce. This was the awesome food presentation! It looked EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE MENU! I was very impressed as most of the time, food appearance always differs from their menu. Personally I feel that the waffles weren't soft enough, perhaps too much flour in the recipe, couldn't taste any eggs in them. The fresh fruits had saved the waffles.
Eggs Benedit with Lemon Butter Sauce - $12.90

Eggs Benedit with Lemon Butter Sauce - $12.90

Poached eggs sit on top of baked English muffins that come with crisp turkey bacon, ham and a delectable lemon butter sauce. Sides - sautéed button mushrooms, cherry tomato & rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The turkey bacon was nice and crispy, ham was snatched up by my companions in no time too. We didn't really need the lemon butter sauce as the combination of eggs, ham and bacon with the side dishes were rich enough to go with the muffins. Portion of salad was too much especially when it's made up of only rocket leaves. Will be much better if they could have mix blends of greens. As for the egg benedicts, just look at the mouth watering pics below, enough said tongue~~

Croque Madame - S$11.90

Croque Madame - S$11.90

Grilled ham and cheese sandwich that is baked in a rich mozzarella and cream sauce, using sliced country loaf, chicken ham, fried eggs, iceberg lettuce and sliced tomatoes. Sides - sautéed button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce and rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Grilled ham and cheese on loaf was delicious, especially if you love pizza or cheese. This was a very filling breakfast set.
Royal Rumble Scrambled Egg - S$10.80

Royal Rumble Scrambled Egg - S$10.80

Croissant with scrambled eggs, turkey bacon bits and chives. Side - Cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce and sautéed button mushrooms. Delicious and fuss-free, could ditch fork and knife away and gobble till your heart's contend with hands lolxxx....
Spanish Omelete S$8.80

Spanish Omelete S$8.80

Spanish omelette with diced capsicum, onions, chicken chipolata and topped with tomato sauce. Sides - rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette. My favourite, cos' this is the only breakfast meal without carbohydrates.
The omelettes were soft and fluffy, diced capsicum and onion created texture on each bite, while chicken chipolata completed this balance breakfast.
Kay's Breakfast Combo - S$12.80

Kay's Breakfast Combo - S$12.80

Fried sunny up eggs, cheese sausage, turkey bacon and toasted white bread. Sides - sautéed button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce and rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Nothing unique, but it's a yummy hearty breakfast set.

The interior decor was very clean cut without any fanciful decors. Indoor tables were almost fully occupied on a Saturday eaarly evening.

Kimchi was nice, they should take away the peanuts and give us more kimchi tongue

Spicy steak S$32.80

Spicy steak S$32.80

Spicy steak was not spicy, the sauce was, and it had a tinge of sweetness too. Mash potato that you see at the left side of the pic was very smooth and creamy, almost like pudding.

I am sure it was a good cut of beef as ithe texture of the meat remained tender although it was well done. It could be so much better if it's done in medium or medium rare. I had requsted the steak to be done in medium but the waitress said it depended on the cook and couldn't promise us.
US Army Stew S$18.80

US Army Stew S$18.80

It's kimchi soup with bacon, sausages, some tofu, some veg and rice cake slices. Behold, this pot of orangy mess was damn delicious!! It wasn't very spicy as it appeared to be, there's a interesting and addictive sweetness in it which I couldn't describe. It's like, the more we ate, the more we want. Never know kimchi soup can be this good.
Fresh Fruit Cocktail S$10

Fresh fruit cocktail with soju looks interesting. The Gangnam style cartoon had caught our attention.

We ordered water-melon cocktail and it was not disappointing. Love it!

We sat at the "out-door" area and the ambience was great!

The buffet salad bar has good variety. The setting was very clean and pleasant.

The greens were crispy and fresh which I had enjoyed very much. They actually made consumption of meat less sinful.

The fish was very soft and tender with burst of sweetness at each bite.

We had chicken, sausages, beef of different cuts and lamb. The beef and lamb were just average. And fish was the best among all!

The service was great and the stuffs were warm and friendly.

Refillable miso soup at Ootoya Smile Mar 13, 2013

Grill beef set

Grill beef set

This grill beef set at $24 is totally worth it. Rice covered with slight charred beef chunks, meat was juicy and tender at each bite! Comes with chawanmushi and REFILLABLE miso soup. It's not those miserable miso soup with seaweed and a few tiny cubes of tofu. As you can at the picture, the soup is full of generous ingredients, chicken meat and assorted vegetables! We had asked for 2 refills! Consider a MUST ORDER at this restaurant.
