super good value bakery Smile Sep 30, 2013

Whenever I see this bakery, I will make it a point to buy bread from them.
First of all, it's very difficult to find bread under $1. Event those neighbourhood bakeries are not that good price anymore.

Today I bought their custard (liu sha) bread.

The bread is soft, light, fluffy and fragrant. The golden custard that flows out of the bread was delish, smooth and super tasty.

You have got to try their bread if you see this bakery. Each custard bread is $0.90. Where to find!

Durian cake Cry Sep 29, 2013

Bought a durian cake from Emicakes to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Some say its one of the best durian cake in town but I beg to differ. THe cake was creamy, nice, soft and fluffy. However the durian meat in between the layers of cake was very little and I guess durian is a seasonal fruit. The taste of the durian in the cake today was not that good. It was not that fragrant or sweet in anyway. The worst thing was we found a strand of hair in the cake while cutting it.

We paid $64.90 for 600g mao shan wang cake and really wished it tasted better.

Pies & Coffee OK Sep 28, 2013

Needed a coffee fix and ordered a cup of mocha from Pies & Coffee.
First of all the latte art was disappointing. It was practically not there.
The taste of the mocha was all right. It was not so sweet, the chocolate or coffee taste wasn't strong either.
There was nothing that really stand out in this cup which makes it very ordinary.
Personally I find the coffee here not too consistent. everytime I order the same drink but everytime its a different taste.
Each cup cost $6.20.

Thai Set Lunch OK Sep 27, 2013

E-Sarn has $6.50++ set lunch promotion on weekdays which makes dining there pretty attractive. Today I ordered Prawn Pad Thai. However I was a little disappointed with the taste of it. The noodles were bland, slightly oily and not exciting at all.
The prawns tasted fine.

3 pieces of spring roll came along with the noodle. They were vegetable spring rolls that has a tangy taste because of the clear sauce that it was served with.

Sour & Spicy Beehoon Smile Sep 27, 2013

I was walking around the food court at Clementi Mall and saw this stall which seems to have an unique offering.

Sour & Spicy bee hoon. At $3.50 a bowl, it seems like a very good deal too.

The bee hoon is not the usual kind we get. It's a little thicker like glass noodle. It was springy and had a nice crunch when you eat it.

The soup base as stated was sour & spicy. A little like mala but not as powerful in terms of spice. I like that i's a little sour too that gives the soup a well balanced. there were minced pork mixed in it as well.

Only problem I had was that the soup was also a bit oily. But overall, it's worth a try.
