kaya balls OK Nov 06, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

Needed a coffee break and dropped into yakun at parkway. they have upgraded now and is a fully air conditioned joint.

Orderd a coffee frostyz which is just ice blended coffee. It was not too bad. Not overly sweet and pretty refreshing drink to have.

They apparently have a new food menu, and I ordered the kaya balls to try.

The famous kaya was still as fragrant, smooth and nice in the mouth. it's wrapped in this piece of cake that is soft and fluffy.

The only problem I had was that I wished that the kaya balls were served warm. I thought that would have make the whole experience better.

Not so fantastic western food Cry Nov 06, 2013

Mad Jack claims to use high quality ingredients for their food and still gives value to their diners.

I ordered a combo, beef, chicken and fish with apple & peach salad.

We waited for at least 15 minutes before its being served.

There was no dressing at all on the salad, so it tasted pretty bland.
All the three meat was served with black pepper sauce which was boring.
The beef was tough and not that nice. The chicken and fish was all right.

I was not feeling satisfied with the combo and decided to order a chocolate cake to end my meal nicely.

We waited for another good 10 minutes for them to serve a piece of cake.
the most disappointing thing was that the chocolate cake which I was told to be very rich, sweet and creamy turned out to be totally tasteless and awful.

I will never return to this restaurant again. With awful tasting food and slow service!

best carrot cake i ever had Smile Nov 05, 2013

My colleague took me to Bukit Timah Market and introduced this stall to me.
I remembered I was not even hungry but I ordered anyway because it's only $2.

I did not regret at all. This is the best carrot cake that I had ever tasted in my life.
The carrot cake was soft and yummy inside and there were a lot of egg fried in together.
On the outside it was slightly charred and giving it a bit of a crisp.

All put together, the texture was so good.

You must give this carrot cake a try if you are in the area.

super sour lemon Smile Nov 05, 2013

You will feel happy walking into this shop. Seeing all sorts of sweets in different colors and design. They allowed sampling of various flavors, fruity ones mostly.

In the end I decided on Super Sour Lemon.

The hard candy was indeed super sour. And the sour level lasted all the way till you finished the sweet. I found it very amazing because I was expecting the sourness to only last for a few seconds.

This probably means that the quality of the candy is really good.

Cheeese Smile Nov 05, 2013

Previously a wine shop retailing affordable french wine. they have now a new concept offering simple home cooked french food. The environment is very laid back and cozy.

I ordered a long black. It's a very small cup at $3. But the coffee was smooth and fragrant. Not bad at all.

I also ordered a piece of Brie with herbs to share with my friends. This quality cheese is imported from france. It's rich and creamy. It tasted so good you just want to eat it non stop. It's great on its own and also as a bread spread.
it's inexpensive. $6 for quite a big piece.

I am definitely coming back again to try the other things on their menu!
