Fruit Juice Smile Jun 11, 2013

Categories : Food Court | Desserts and Cakes

lol This stall as it is named has many temptation for the customers. They have a range of hot and cold desserts, cut fruits and fruit juices at affordable price. Their price range starts from $0.70 onward. If you are looking for some after meal desserts, this stall is the best choice. It is healthy and worth the money spent.

For today, I choose to have fruit juice and it gonna be a mix of apple and orange. It is only $1.30. I always thought I have found the cheapest fruit juice at $1.50 when I was previously working at Tanjong Pagar, just opposite Maxwell Food Centre. But I'm wrong. Now it is even cheaper and affordable to even drink every day for your vitamin boost.

Even with the price so affordable, they did not short-change their customers. The taste is not like some other stalls out there which is quite diluted and all you sip up is water and very little taste of the real fruit. This one I'm having has the real taste of both apple and orange. It is natural sweet that comes from the fruit.

You can choose from two sizes for your juices but usually I would recommend you to take the norm one (I think is 12 or 18oz) cup. But anyway the stall helper will straight away give you the 18 oz one without asking. For single fruit juice, it is only $1.10 for a 18 oz and I think $0.80 for a 12 oz. Go try it and you will be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

You will never run out of breakfast ideas with this stall. Their standard menu for the morning is nasi lemak which I have previously review. And there are also mee rebus and mee siam to choose from. Once awhile you get to see their spicy mee goreng and spicy silver needles noodles aka rat noodles (lao shu fen).

So fortunately today, I spotted lao shu fen so I just have it for breakfast at affordable price of $1.50 (which includes the price of a hashbrown). Of course this one is a Muslim style of cooking so is all about spicy, as compared to Chinese style will be just putting black sauce into it.

The noodles is cooked with their chilli and egg. Very simple yet taste very nice. The spiciness is overwhelming though still at a tolerable level. You do need a little oiliness for this but not overdoing it and it has met the expectation. All they need is maybe add some vegetables to it. Less sinful for weight watchers. I wonder if anyone can tolerate spiciness early in the morning for breakfast. May not be good but once a while should be fine. Drink more water or green tea.

As for the hashbrown, nothing much to comment because it is still as crispy as before. Nice option.

Rice + Vegetables Smile May 23, 2013

Although it has no difference from those at hawker centres or food courts, one thing good is the reasonable price. Would you be able to get at a price range from $1.40 - $3.00 which you can satisfy your tummy instantly rather than $3-$5 of the same food but portion is pathetic?

Right at this stall, there are varieties for you to choose from where some are common ones like vegetables and meat but on some days, they may have different dishes like hashbrowns or sort.

Their pricing is based on 1 meat/seafood + 1 vegetable which costs you $1.40 and so on but does not include rice. Rice is priced at $0.30 for a small or $0.40 for normal. If you are a light eater, ask for less rice. If not they will assume you want the normal one.

The taste is quite normal and nothing to rave about. The smell of their dishes are damn good. Their portion given for dishes and rice are quite decent.

There is always long queue at their stall so be early and avoid peak hours from 12 noon to 2pm.

Dumpling Noodles Smile May 21, 2013   (Related Review)

I actually realised that they use the same type of noodles for dumpling noodles and wantan mee. Everything is the same plus the black sauce that we will use to mix together the noodles. But I'm glad it tastes good as usual. I see that the noodles go through hot water to let it cook and then going through cold water to make it springy.

They separate the dumplings from noodles and you get a bowl of nice and tasty soup with 4 dumplings. The fillings inside are minced meat and I do taste some small bits of chestnut in the fillings. Crunchy bites. It is fresh and the skin is at the right texture. At a price of $2, this is worth a million to fill your tummy with a decent portion that is pleasing to the palate.

Yong Tau Foo Smile May 20, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Singaporean Chinese

I always see Yong Tau Foo as a healthier choice for our daily meal as we ourselves determine what type of nutrients go into our body. Apart from the soup base which some use chicken broth or using monosodium glutamate (MSG) for convenience, the most important thing is our choice of food items to complete this Yong Tau Foo.

Most of the stalls within the campus are priced reasonably. And usually in this stall, minimum of 6 pieces at $1.50 which does not include noodles, which is priced at $0.30. From 7th piece onwards will be at $0.25 each. If you want it in laksa gravy instead of the usually soup base or dry type, add an additional of $0.30 to satisfy your graving. I have tried their laksa before. It is nice and pleasing to the palate. So for a budget eater, I usually do the basic which costs me at $1.80 and the portion is good enough for me. What I usually have which is a must will be vegetable, toufu, mushroom and broccoli. I can't do without them for my nutrients intake, although not much.

In their menu, there are others items like sliced fish porridge, sliced fish bee hoon, sliced fish soup, sliced fish mee sua and sliced fish mee. All at $2.30 each. If you want to have just purely laksa, is at $1.80. Simply love the tau pok that has absorbed the laksa gravy that purge out from every bite.

So this stall has morning breakfast to like fried beehoon and noodles, and mid morning onwards for lunch all the way till evening.
