Tasty Wantan Mee Smile May 16, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

They don't just sell Chicken Rice but a variety of others like dumpling noodles, shredded chicken hor fun, porridge, macaroni soup and more at affordable price of $1-$2 (if you never add other stuff like braised egg, dumplings and so on).

This wantan mee has gotten my mum's nod for their tastiness. It is a simple yet delicious noodles. The noodles are cooked at the right texture that blends with the sauce. Topped with char siew and vegetables, it is enough for a meal and also satisfying your tummy. The wantans are found in the soup provided. 3 modest wantans. At least after this meal, you won't feel draggy in the stomach.

Add their braised egg at $0.40 each. It is nice and boost your protein intake, though is a braised one.

Simple Breakfast Smile May 16, 2013

Usually I had my breakfast at home but when I run out of choice at home, I will just head for this stall for my breakfast before work.

It is actually a Yong Tau Foo stall and they have great variety of food to choose from and also they have fried rice vermicelli and fried noodles for their breakfast items. At a price of $0.85, you get a generous amount of rice vermicelli or fried noodles plus one side which you can choose from their Yong Tau Foo items. If you want more sides, is $0.25 per piece. So affordable.

I do see some people having Yong Tau Foo for breakfast too. So you may want to try as it really a healthier choice with lots of vegetables along with toufu and other stuff to balance your diet.

Breakfast Choice Smile May 15, 2013

To start off your day, have something heavy for your breakfast. And I had nasi lemak to perk me up on a mid week.

The stall gives a generous amount of rice for their nasi lemak and for a small eater like me, I am unable to finish it and instead, the sides like sunny side-up, ikan bilis and cucumber will be finished. Their chilli is one of the best. You really must have good and nice chilli to go along with the rice. And here it never fails. The rice is a little soft with way bits of sticky. That is considered good, at least not too dry which actually will spoil the overall taste.

The price is at $1 but usually I will add on with a hashbrown and that cost only $1.50 in total. Where can you get that outside? I think is rather hard now. Worth the try.

Impromptus Dinner Smile Nov 22, 2013

I'm quite particular with their food quality because hopping to different outlets of Din Tai Fung, there seems to be differences. But for at least, this outlet is one of their saving grace.

Steamed Pork Dumplings

The steamed pork dumplings were good and especially when it comes to the dumpling skin texture, neither thick or thin and it actually brings out the taste of the soup and meat fillings within this tiny dumplings.

Oriental Wontons with Black Vinegar & Chilli Oil

I'm always curious about this dish which I always heard from Taiwanese drama called 红油抄手 and I finally tried it. So it is just wontons in black vinegar and chilli oil with spring onions as garnish. But I'm quite impressed as having vinegar in this dish actually stirs up your appetite. Quite nice as in the filling are fresh, especially the prawns.

Fried Dumplings

It is crispy on the outside while it's hot and the fillings are made up of minced prawns and pork if I'm not wrong. Nice to have if you want some munching.

Noodle with Spicy Sauce

The handmade noodles was good and in fact always better than machine made because the texture can be determined with the skills of the dough master. However it has no unique taste coming from it though it is spicy. A can-have dish if you are craving for some spicy food.

I also actually ordered the Steamed Red Bean Paste Buns (not in the photo). It is quite mini in size, skin texture was just right and also soft, and the paste within has that subtle sweetness which non-sweet lovers can opt for it.

Fusion Food Smile Nov 17, 2013

Attended a photography session organised by Canon and we participants get to learn, practice our photography skills and had a 3 course set meal.

Deep-fried Mushrooms coated in Wasabi mayo w Avocado & Tomato Salad

The mushrooms are likely coated with batter for frying. It is not oily and yet the juiciness accompanied with the wasabi mayo created a unique taste, which keeps you wanted more. The little cubes of avocado mixed in the sauce enhance the bland taste. The overall taste was good.

Wok-fried Japanese Pearl Rice w Squid Ink in XO Chili Sauce accompanied w Seared Hokkaido Scallop

It tastes like I'm having fried rice but the pearl rice gives a little stickiness which differentiate them from others. And it is special when it is cooked in squid ink. It's not salty and a subtle sweetness from the rice, which I guess is because there is some dry scallop used that enhance the taste, and definitely fragrance. The scallop is fresh and blend in well in the chili sauce.

Chilled Lemon Grass Jello w Sweet Thai Mango, Young Coconut and Wolfberries

I have a mixed feeling for this dessert. The taste of lemon grass was strong and every mouthful, you can't get away from it. There are strips of mango and coconut, jello where the lemon grass taste comes from along with raspberry and blueberry. You can taste sweet and sour at the same time and you can't figure out which taste to look forward to. But definitely, the health benefits you get from this dessert is a lot. That's a saving grace.

Quite a good experience having meals in hotel and definitely look forward to more opportunities.
