Egg Mayo w Floss Smile Jun 14, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Bakery

Seriously I never doubt the products from Swee Heng because since young, my mum has been bringing us to the nearest outlet from our house to buy cakes, breads and other stuff from them. And now with us all grown up, we still love their stuff like in the past.

My brother introduce me to one of their bread and that is Egg Mayo with Floss ($1.60). I think it should be chicken floss because they are Halad certified. It is awesome and you can't imagine that the egg mayo and floss can be such a wonderful combination. To me, the proportion of both are just enough for the size of bread. So every bite is egg mayo and floss. The egg mayo is fresh and sweet. So this is a good choice for your breakfast if you are in a rush. It is located inside Kopitiam and with the Kopitiam card, you will get discount too. So try it. They have other stuff like donuts, kuehs and sort available at their counter.

Fishball noodles Smile May 30, 2013   (Related Review)

Another choice you can get from the same stall and is totally awesome.

For fishball noodles, I always prefer yellow mee and kway teow, be it soup or dry. So for this, I choose a dry type of fishball noodles which actually will make me feel fuller while soup type will make me feel lighter if I'm in the mood. The chilli is top priority when it comes to dry noodles. Here, it is spicy enough (not exceeding my tolerance level) and it goes so well with the noodles. There are 4 fresh fishballs that are springy too. The slices of fishcakes are good too. Fresh is the thing. A little spread of minced meat on top with garnish, the fishball noodles taste good and savoury. I spotted bits of pork lard in there. And it comes with a bowl of soup to complement the overall. At $2, it is affordable and reasonable. Or you want a smaller portion, ask for $1.80.

Tom Yum Noodles OK May 28, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food Court | Noodles

I'm not exactly a spice person but sometimes we really need something to spice up our taste bud which actually can spice up your mood too. So Tom Yum Noodles ($3.30) is one of those in the list that I will choose when I'm in the hot and spicy mood cum taste bud.

To me, actually there is nothing to rave about but what's more important is the soup that complement the overall taste of the noodles. Inside the bowl of noodles, there is vegetable, egg, minced meat and ikan bilis. The portion is quite big and it took me awhile to finish it or maybe also because of the spiciness. The minced meat is too little. I am always looking forward to the minced meat. The meat absorbed the tom yum soup and it tastes juicy and nice. I was kind of surprised when I tasted their noodles. They use Ban Mian type of noodles (handmade noodles) and it is smooth plus absorbing the soup taste, just like the meat. As for the vegetable, is not overcooked and still can taste the crunchiness. Sometimes we do see overcooked ones that darkens and the nutrients in it are gone.

Overall the tom yum noodles that I have tasted at many places are about the same and what really concerns me is the soup base. It must be near to authentic but however most of the time, it is different to suit the Singaporean's taste bud.

Black Pepper Chicken Chop Smile May 17, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Food Court | Steaks and Grills | Salads/ Acai Bowl

This is one of those nice and economical western food you can find in Singapore but in campus. Always a long queue so seldom do I have the chance to taste their food

I chose Black Pepper Chicken Chop and indeed, never fail me in taste even though it costs $3.20. It not only has the chicken chop, you can choose 3 sides from their variety like baked beans, french fries, corns, hashbrowns, coleslaw and more. All included in the price of $3.20 so what do you think? You may want to add their soup of the day at $1.20 to complete the meal.

The chicken chop is well-cooked and is very tender along with the sauce which is a little salty but still bearable. The portion is modest and decent which makes you enjoy chewing away the chicken chop. The hashbrown and fries are a little too soft, maybe it has been fried for a while and the crispy has lost a little. But nevertheless, the overall taste is good and would love to try others.

They have pasta, salads and many more to choose from at affordable price which won't cost you more than $6.

Affordable Jap Food Smile May 15, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Food Court

When there is long queue during lunch hours, I will choose the shortest and that means I will be eating Japanese food. Short queue doesn't mean their food is not nice. You are not gonna have Japanese food everyday right?

Today for lunch, I had Dory Udon ($3.50). They will fry the dory on the spot but it won't take you long before your food is served. The portion is decent and they give you 3 modest piece of dory. That is good enough. And is fresh. That's what matters most. Surprisingly got a piece of crabstick tempura in the udon. Nice. Udon are well-cooked.

At the price of $3.50, this is definitely a decent meal to look forward. Warm and satisfy your tummy.
