Fried Kway Teow Smile Jul 05, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

This stall is shared between one that sells goreng pisang and the other that sells only fried kway teow.

So today I had my lunch a plate of fried kway teow and the goreng pisang stall is not open. Not sure of the opening hours.

Ordered a $3 plate (or $3.50) and came very fast. A reasonable portion for me and they have minimal of vegetables, eggs, cockles and fishcakes. I probably should have told them I don't want cockles since I don't take but just slip out of my mind. So there are different sizes of cockles and of course not to waste, I had a few small ones for a virgin try. Don't really like the taste. As for the overall taste, it's good. The taste of kway teow is savoury, sweet and smooth texture. It smells good too when serving up. They probably had a good control of the heat while cooking. What's more important is the colour. The darker the better.

Dim Sum Dinner @ Canton Paradise Smile Jul 05, 2013

Having tried Canton Paradise many times, the taste never fails me! Canton Paradise is my definite choice for dim sum because of affordable prices and fresh ingredients used in their food.

Sliced Fish Congee
They have a variety of congee to choose from and to try something new, we had sliced fish congee. I suppose their congee is the best. Smooth and is like drinking congee with every mouthful. One thing good is their sliced fish are fresh. Quite a generous serving for the fish.

Egg Noodles in Superior Soya Sauce
I wonder why they sprinkle sesame seeds on top on the noodles but this plate of egg noodles is so savoury that I suggested to my boyfriend that we should have it the Hong Kong style as seen in drama where they serve congee and noodles for breakfast. This combination is awesome. Best part, the noodles are not very oily. It makes you feel fuller towards the end.

Cheongfun with Prawn
The reason why I choose prawn fillings rather than char siew or plain ones is because I can't get enough of their fresh prawn. So fresh and springy. And yes their cheongfun is smooth and you can just slurp in easily. But remember to dip some of the sauce. It further enhances the taste.

You see! I just can't have enough of their food that have prawns. The whole peeled prawn is within the thin skin. You definitely enjoy your every bite. So springy. 4 is just not enough.

Xiao Long Bao $4.80

Xiao Long Bao
What I look for in Xiao Long Bao mostly is on their skin, the fillings within are good enough and of course the soup inside too. But the thickness of the skin is very important. You won't want to have thick skin that taste hard and no matter how good the fillings within are, the first impression or bite spoil everything. But here, they meet my requirement. Texture is just right. So everything is perfect.

Siew Mai
I don't really like it because it tastes weird. My boyfriend said maybe because of the caviar on top but I think is not. The first bite, it tastes a little sour and I had a hard time swallowing the next bite.

Glutinous Rice with Chicken in Lotus Leaf
I recommend this. Although the chicken within is very minimal but this is definitely one good choice we made. The glutinous rice is so soft that you may have a hard time picking up with your chopsticks. We can't say that it is too watery because it is not. I think it might be the rice they used and the amount of water they used in steaming. But after that, please have more tea for digestion purpose.

Glutinous Rice w Chicken in Lotus Leaf $4.20, Siew Mai $5.60, Prawn Dumpling Soup $8.80

Glutinous Rice w Chicken in Lotus Leaf $4.20, Siew Mai $5.60, Prawn Dumpling Soup $8.80

Prawn Dumpling Soup
A bad choice because the skin tastes weird. I guess is sour. Like they have put for days. The fillings are good but the skin spoil everything. Definitely will not choose this again. Had one dumpling and that's it.

Overall this meal we spend about $60++ and because I have joined their membership program previously, I have $13 discount from the bill plus if you are an OCBC cardmember, you can get rebates too.

Ban Mian Smile Jun 27, 2013   (Related Review)
Categories : Noodles

This stall has 2 queues, one for the usual like fishball noodles, Lor Mee, Pork Ribs noodles and the other one for Ban Mian, Mee Sua and Mee Hoon Kui. Usually the latter one is shorter. So I choose Ban Mian for lunch at $2.20.

In this bowl, it contains fresh dumpling (non-fried), egg, mushroom, crunchy and fresh vegetables and minced meat. Can consider a lot of ingredients, quite generous and also a healthier choice for those clean eater. The ban mian noodles has a very smooth surface although some are stick together and it tastes good. Properly cooked because never get to taste some harden ones except those sticking together. Although it has nothing much to rave about but consider the price and portion, it is definitely better than those outside ones where ingredients are little, ban mian never cook properly and pricey. Here you can get it at half the price of what you get out there.

Watermelon Juice Smile Jun 24, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Juices

Why not a refreshing drink on a sunny weather? Watermelon juice is one of them that can quench your thirst and lower down your body temperature. A typically dry season in Singapore right now and you can never go wrong with this.

At this stall, they sell not just varieties of juices, they have sugarcane juice, cut fruits, agar agar and even soft drinks. Although the price cannot be compared with what I have in NUS canteen, this glass of watermelon juice costs $1.50 which is quite reasonable. Unlike some other places, this juice does not taste that watery like you are drinking plain water which I consider quite cheating and you are really drinking watermelon because there is pulp.

Drink more healthy yet refreshing juices now.

Affordable Steamboat Choice Smile Jun 16, 2013

Categories : Fusion | Restaurant

For full review, check out http://mingmingisstella.blogspot.com/2013/06/food-review-rajah-inn.html.

I must say that this is the best steamboat I ever had. There are lots of varieties to choose from their steamboat and ala-carte selection and please remember not to order any rice or noodles. If not, you won't have much capacity left to stuff yourself with their cooked food.

There are few soup base to choose from and I got myself Tom Yum soup base. The soup is refillable so don't worry if it dries up. The taste of their soup is just what I want. The spiciness is just right. I just can't get enough of Tom Yum. They serve us Iced Lemon Tea too and is refillable. Remember to quench your thirst because you tend to get thirsty due to saltiness from all the food that you have. Their steamboat selection are pretty good because it is fresh. Freshness is important to us, right? The portions given are quite generous. They really never shortchange their customers.

Their Ala-Carte selection are awesome too. Too hard to resist. I do recommend their Bacon Prawn Roll. Awesome. They use one whole peeled prawn (left with the tail), wrapped with bacon and fry it. You can even down the tail due to its crispiness. The rest you can try will be their crispy chicken wings, spring rolls, sotong balls, tauhu telur, sambal kangkong. We ordered all that actually. You can order many rounds. But please don't be like us. We can't finish the food. Food wastage. That is no good. Order small portion. You can indicate on the order paper provided. Just put down the item number and write Small size will do.

As for their desserts, Durian Oozee is a must order for durian lovers. Only limited to 1 per customer. Means no 2nd order. It looks like Goreng Pisang on the outside but then, it is better than Goreng Pisang. The hot piping durian filling within is irresistible. The taste stays in your mouth for awhile. Plus the crispiness on the outside, the taste matches perfectly. You can also order their Chocolate Fondue and assorted ice cream. If you need more chocolate for your fondue, let the server know and they will know what to do. Nothing to rave about their fondue though. So is their ice cream. I guess is quite common items in other restaurants too especially those buffet style.

The price per pax is $24.80++ and adds up to $29+ (inclusive of taxes) for a Friday dinner. Come early before 7pm to avoid the crowd. After that, their restaurant will be full house.
