Plain horfun w wanton soup OK Feb 25, 2015

Categories : Hawker Centre | Zi Char

Was hungry while doing cny shopping in chinatown and ventured to this horfun stall with the newspaper articles all over, wanting to try the chicken horfun. Alas, was sold out by 2 pm and had to settle with plain horfun + prawn wanton soup as didn't like crayfish. The order was served fast within 7 mins after ordering but had to queue behind 3 people before ordering.

Soup had a strong prawn smell but otherwise bland as I believe the stallholder didn't add other seasoning. There were 5 wantons in the soup. Each wanton only had a large prawn each with a little fish paste to hold the wanton skin together. Fresh but nothing to rave about as taste very bland without seasoning.

Horfun was heated in hot water and had some brown sauce with two kailan leaves. Nothing special in taste.

Disposable utensils were used to serve the food but glad that there wasn't additional charge of $0.50 imposed on takeaway orders (same disposable chopsticks and spoon used, just the translucent container is different from dine-in).

Price is reasonable for the prawns used considering that prawns costs more nearing cny. But will not make another visit as not outstanding in terms of taste.

Since Arnold's stopped the delivery service on weekdays, i've not managed to get my fix of its chicken and potatoes w cheese dip until 12 Oct. I'm glad that they offer 10% off for orders above $30 if you fax in your orders for self-collection at your preferred time. Faxed over my orders around 1.25pm and got their call to acknowledge receipt of fax as well as to inform the costs after discount within 5 mins. Was 10mins late to collect my order stated for 2pm and started feasting on chicken parts around 2.40pm. Chicken still tasted juicy and smelt fantastic although crisscut fries, wedges and fries turned soft.

My craving was satisfied despite the lack of natural chips (no longer available) to form the potato platter.

Takeaway joint OK Oct 23, 2013

It's the second time I ordered takeaway from this eatery after collecting my car from a workshop at the neighbouring block. The first time I ordered BBQ back ribs which took more than 20mins of waiting although iwas early and only 2 tables were filled. Tasted only average.

This time i went after 8.30pm and tables were 80% occupied so i was cautious to find out the waiting time before placing orders to avoid waiting too long and end up having supper. Only ordered Boss Bee Hoon $9 and salted egg squid $12 when told waiting time may take 0.5hr and had to forego the steam sharktail.

Surprisingly, the food was ready in abt 10mins. The Boss Beehoon was full of 'wok hei' and tasted splendid after i reached home 15mins later. But salted egg squid was rubbery.

Agree that service is decent only so not sure if i want to dine in and spend time waiting for the food.

Ala Carte Buffet in Oct 2013 Smile Oct 22, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Seafood

I visited the restaurant w my family on Hari Raya Haji PH after purchasing groupon vouchers for 6 adults. The menu featured 12-head abalone and Bird's Nest dessert which was the attraction. Most dishes are allowed repeat orders up to 3 times except some delicacies such as poached prawns (fresh!), herbal roast duck (adequately seasoned w a tinge of wine), steamed seabass (i did not get to taste it as it was gone by the time i cleared my plate for fish), salmon sashimi (reasonabley fresh)..

There are some dim sum like siew mai, pork ribs, crystal dumplings and fried prawn dumpling quite palactably done. The free flow durian pudding is worth mentioning besides the bird's nest as it contain fresh durian pulp while strands of bird's nest can be lifted using chopsticks. Other dishes are only average except Heng Hua Fried Bee Hoon as the variety included some Hakka dishes (Hakka stewed pork and Abacus seeds), Thai (papaya salad, fried prawn cake) andHainanese pork cutlet.

Service was alright but the dishes all came almost together, and we got too busy whacking the dishes to clear space so we did not have time to take photos.

Cost for 7 adults, 2 children (one eats free coz below 3 yrs) amts close to $250 which is very good considering the variety and quality of food offered.
